Rating: Summary: Hard to forget Review: This is definatley one of JM's best books! It makes you feel very happy, simpathetic, etc... for the characters. I truly enjoyed every page!!
Rating: Summary: Whitney Review: I can only think of one word that actually describes this book,"WOW". This is the second book I have read by JM, but it is much better than the first(Remember When). This has to be the best historical romance novel I have ever read and I am looking forward to reading all of her novels. I received her name when one of the reviewers held Susan Elizabeth Phillips up to her standards. I must say that she was not mistaken. I have a soft touch for historical novels and this book was absolutely wonderful. I wish only that I could give it more stars. The heroine was great, zesty and full of life. I loved her stubborness and uniqueness. The hero was rugged but gentle, and became a reformed rake. I have only one suggestion. Don't start the book thinking that you can easily put it down because you will scarcely do anything else until you finish it.
Rating: Summary: Whitney, My Love will capture your heart! Review: This book is exceptional! This book's characters are well-defined and have distinct personalities that come alive in the pages of the story. The heroine, Whitney, is the young, gauche tomboy who, under the wing of her uncle and aunt, blossoms into a rare beauty who speaks her mind and becomes the gem of parisian society. The hero, Clayton, is every bit the aristocratic, wealthy, rake of London society. When these two meet, sparks fly! He wants Whitney, but she doesn't want him because she is infatuated with someone else. The plots' twists and turns are surprising and suspenseful. You find yourself rooting for someone else in the beginning and then, when she meets Clayton, you find yourself rooting for him to win Whitneys' hand. Whitney is an example of a true heroine. She is willful, intelligent, and able to take care of herself. Through her example, she is able to teach the hero the true meaning of love. This romance really is well written and the characters well depicted. This book will make you experience the full gamut of emotions. This is an example of Judith McNaughts' finest work. I have read and re-read this book many times, including the new version, and each time is better than the last. You absolutely fall in love with the characters and hate for the story to end. This story will capture your heart. This book is for the true romantic! It remains one of my all-time favorites!
Rating: Summary: Completely ridiculous... Review: I admit that most romance novels are not very realistic, (that's probably why they are so popular) but this book took it to the extreme. I don't care what time period you're living in, it is virtually impossible to fall in love and care for a man who beats you, is verbally abusive, and who sexually violates you! What good qualities did Clayton possess that made Whitney fall in love with him? None, if you ask me, which is why this book is ridiculous. It is simply unbelievable. I hated Clayton from the beginning. He treated Whitney horribly and the fact that she still fell in love with him after all his ill-treatment made me hate her almost as much. It is scary how many people liked this rubbish. Take my advice and skip this infuriating book, unless of course you enjoy reading about violent, controlling, and abusive relationships.
Rating: Summary: Great book to escape the present! Review: This book packs an emotional wallop! Whitney was a misunderstood, awkward tomboy who blooms into a stunning, intelligent & talented heroine. Clayton is a handsome, rich Duke who is fascinated by Whitney. He will let nothing stop him from his goal of securing Whitney as his Duchess. The misunderstandings and adventures that ensue are entertaining and emotional as Whitney & Clayton learn about themselves and each other. The conversations that the characters engage in are interesting and clever. I did not want to miss a single word in this book.
Rating: Summary: I love this book! Review: OMG! I finaly finished this book after a tear-jerking, heart pounding week of reading the new updated version of this book! 708 pages I believe to be exact. OI! I cried, laughed, and raised my fists in the air when Whitney and Clayton went through so many things in this story. I don't want to spoil new readers, but I'm now hounding my friends and even sent a copy to my friend to read this story. I had to share this book to everyone I know~ There were moments when I barely could breathe in certain scenes through this story and then moments, when I could not hold back the tears. Whintey has shown me as a woman so much, and so has Clayton. This book came at a good time in my life where I had a lot of changes, and this story helped me through so much in my life and everything that did change. This story of I would also say "not giving up" made me stronger in the end. I mostly adore the ways the characters had to do BEYOND repairs to get what they want after they just let it go by misunderstandings...and then the strange and very just like-OMG! way that things kept on coming in the path of this tale. I wanted to strangle Clayton so many times during this story at points, and then kiss him dearly afterwards! Never has a story or characters moved me so much to bring me involved into the book. I say this is a keeper, and I lost a lot of sleep over this book 'cause I could not put it down. If you don't believe it is a good tale, I'll buy the book for you and send you a copy-just kidding-but that is how good it is. Everyone in my family is getting this for X-Mas. What more I loved about the book is just the challenges and events that came up to torment and bring joy to the characters. And even though someone said there was a rape scene-it wasn't "actually" really a rape scene. ^_~ Which I was glad to see when I got to that point in the story what really was going on, and it was so much more deeper and really got me involved in their hearts-and how the love just continued to grow. I don't know what else to say about this book, yet that it changed my life forever and gave me the strength to say: "If Whitney can do it, so can I!" *smiles* Yep, got to read it over now...
Rating: Summary: Sweet, Endearing & Unique... Review: This is one of J.M's unique novels, which I highly enjoyed. I have read more than 5 of her books & I say, she writes great stories. The romance, plot, twist & turns... different every time. Whitney, My Love... is now one of my favorite books, It's the second of the Westmoreland Series. The series starts with A KINGDOM OF DREAM, which is my #1, my favorite of all the books I've read by far. UNTIL YOU is the last of this series. ( THANKS ambrangel :-) for her help ) Aside from the secondary characters of this book like Nikki, The Westmoreland family, Emily, Paul, The Gilberts, etc... who all contributed in making this book even more interesting, I specially enjoyed Whitney's character the most. She's everything a heroine in a historical romantic novels should be... beautiful, funny, kind hearted, smart & witty. Yet, proud, stubborn, bold & spirited. Since her mother died when she was only 6 years old, she wasn't as refine as most young ladies her age should be. Whitney Stone speaks her mind freely, does what she wishes before thinking of the consequences that follows her actions. She flaunts & admits her feelings for Paul, her childhood love-friend, openly eversince she can remember. Her effort to lure Pauls attention & love became a town frolic, embarassing herself & her father. Her last antic made her father decide to let Whitney live with her aunt & uncle in France, where she stayed & blossomed for years. With her aunt/uncles love & patience, she was taught the do's & don't's of being a proper lady. After one year, after her successful debut, she became the attention of eyes of many eligible bachelors esp. Clayton Westmoreland, Duke of Claymore. Her uncle received many offers for her hand in marriage. However, Whitney refuse each one. She believes she's still in love with Paul. She couldn't wait to go back to her hometown & see Paul again. She wanted to prove not only to herself but to everyone in the her hometown, esp. to Paul, that she is worth his love and not just a town hoyden they see her to be. Clayton Westmoreland, 6th Duke of Claymore is rich, handsome & considered the most eligible bachelor of all England (and a rake too). He was highly sought after by ladies & mothers offers their daughter to him openly. He could have anyone he desires but wasn't seriously interested until he saw Whitney on her opening debut. He secretly kept tracked of her for years, seeing her became even more alluring & beautiful in his very eyes. The increase of Whitney's suitors & offers for her hand in marriage made Clayton decide it's time for him to make his own move. But of course, he is not going to be like a besotted fool by begging for her hand like the others have done. He is afterall a proud man & a Duke, among other things. However, since Whitney made it perfectly clear that she is not least impressed with man with titles, Clayton's dukedom hold no help in this matter. Therefore, he decided to use other ways & means to win Whitney's heart. The schemes, courtship & the challenge of luring Whitney's heart made this book very exciting, amusing & unique. Whitney's homecoming, esp. her initial meeting with Paul, his reaction (after years of absence), was one of my many favorite scenes in this book. Whitney's confusions & realization of her true feelings, her wrong choices & the consequences & lastly, the gestures and actions she had to make in order to correct her mistakes made this book absolutely riveting. This book will surely entertain you from the beginning to the end. A must read!
Rating: Summary: Whitney What's Wrong With You?!? Review: This is a well written story that has a strong beginning, but is fizzles out in the end. My biggest problem with Whitney My Love is the same problem that many people had: the rape scene. The hero, Clayton, committed this act on the heroine, Whitney, because some woman at a party told him Whitney has slept around. Clayton was angry and he wanted to hurt, degrade and humiliate Whitney. And he did. He hurt her so bad she screamed in pain and started crying hysterically. I just cannot have any respect for someone who could hurt someone that way in anger, no matter how bad he feels about what he did. Another problem I had with this story is that Whitney actually has a really nice guy in France who has helped and supported her, loves her for the person she is, wants to marry her and make her happy and she chooses Clayton who will obviously turn against her if he thinks she is doing something he doesn't like. This is the third Judith McNaught story I have read and they are all like this. The heroine has a great guy who wants her, and she chooses the cruel, jaded, emotionally abusive hero. Whitney My Love is well written, but I just could not get into the story. And after reading McNaught's Once And Always and Perfect, I have decided that while this author writes well, I will never be a big fan of hers. Sorry.
Rating: Summary: rotten Review: I was appalled by this book. Clayton treats Whitney like dirt throughout about 3/4 of it. I couldn't believe he actually rapes her! And then through a ridiculous and frustrating misunderstanding, feels justified to behave badly to her in the last quarter. If they actually communicated they may have had an easier life. He should have been made to suffer, long and hard, the arrogant so and so. This one has been consigned to the dustbin.
Rating: Summary: Wnitney My Love Review: Everything by Judith is first rate. This one is by far her best it sucks you in page for page.It makes you laugh cry and shout in anger. This book by far can't compare to any other historcal romance.Whitney is a young girl who grows and blossoms though the book it brings through every emotion and leaves wanting more I still am waiting for more, three years later and this book is still on my mind.
