Summary: Excellent!
Review: I think that this book is one of the most moving stories I've ever read. Ms. Spencer has created a phenomenal character in Roberta, who is as strong and self-reliant as we all wish we were. In spite of all her heartaches and pain, Roberta manages to find safe but passionate love. This story incorporates all our dreams; a middle-aged working woman with three young children etches out a life for herself all on her own and still manages to find time for romance. Roberta is a role model for women today. If we are given more characters such as she in more stories of courage and hope such as this, I think the women of the 21st century will go in a progressive new direction where having it all IS feasible. Inspiring

Summary: All I can say is.. Wow
Review: I'm a 26 year old mother of 3 children (5,3,& 11 months). Needless to say, I don't have much time to sit down and read. "That Camden Summer" was the best book I've read in all of my 26 years. It was also the first LaVyrle Spencer book I've ever read, and so far, I am DEEPLY impressed by her work. It was as if she wrote the book for me, and for me alone. I laughed, I cried. It was wonderful. I'm excited to keep reading Ms. Spencer's books and to be intrigued and full of wonder as to what the next page of the next book will bring.

Summary: Pretty Good
Review: I've always enjoyed LaVyrle Spencer's books. Her last one, Home Song, was a little disappointing but she is back on track with this one. The characters are well developed and likable. The story line isn't exactly riveting and it gets a little syrupy in places but who cares, it's a pleasurable read

Summary: Didn't Like It!
Review: Lavyrle Spencer is one of my favorite authors, I liked Morning Glory, Small Town Girl and Vows but I did not like That Camden Summer and really hated the scenes with Roberta's horrible brother-in-law.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: 2 1/2 Stars for That Camden Summer!
Review: Lavyrle Spencer is one of my favorite authors, I liked Morning Glory, Small Town Girl and Vows but I listened to the abridged audio recording of her book That Camden Summer and this is just my personal opinion and I know that I will probably get unhelpul votes for saying it but I really think That Camden Summer started off very good but it fell apart in the middle and maybe it's just because this was an abridged recording but I felt that their wasn't enough romance between Roberta and Gabe and too much time was wasted on the scenes with Roberta's nasty mother and sister and her horrible, abusive brother-in-law. Two and a half stars!

Summary: Compelling!
Review: Once again this was one of those books that draws your attention to keep reading, not a pre-bed book! LaVyrle Spencer has a real God given gift to writing. I would put this book in the feel good category, because from the moment you start reading it is easy to fall in love with Roberta Jewett and her girls. A memorable read.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Sure to be one of my all time favorites.
Review: One of the many things I like about this author is her amazing ability to research historical information and incorporate it into a great storyline. In That Camden Summer, Spencer has a field day with the automobiles of that time period. What a wonderful way to learn history!

Summary: This is one to tell your friends about!!
Review: Roberta Jewett is a headstrong woman who is trying to make it on her own after an abusive relationship with her husband. This wouldn't seem so hard, except the year is 1916!! She buys her own motorcar and fights for her kids to be able to be themselves and not conform to society. Wow. This is just such a great example of a woman taking charge of her life and not letting it get her down. Oh, and she does find love along the way :) Another Lavryle Spencer classic!!

Summary: That Camden Summer is the first Lavyrle Spencer book I read.
Review: That Camden Summer is the first Lavyrle Spencer book I read on vacation last year. I read it in one day and had to buy another Lavyrle Spencer book right away! Her characters are so endearing that the reader feels a bond with them immediately while reading her books. Roberta's commitment to her children is inspirational. I recommend all of Lavyrle Spencer's books. The reader will not be able to put the book down until the characters' fates are determined. One of her best books!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Did not like it, different from all her other books
Review: The fact that it had a rape that was described in detail really upset me. I felt that it was not essential for the story for her to be so graphic. NOT HER USUAL STYLE. I have read all her other books and had to force myself to read this one. My favourite LaVyrle Spencer books are "Family Blessings" "Bittersweet" and "Morning Glory"
