Review: I cut my teeth on Sidney Sheldon books in a college class on Best Selling novels. Mullins' stuff is better. More intelligent, like Mists of Avalon in a Romance book jacket. Can't wait for the movie!

Review: I picked this book up this morning.... and I couldn't put it down ALL day. This is my first book by this author, and it wont be my last. Its a keeper for sure. It is so romantic, with a very good plot to keep you glued to the book, and with enough sex to warm you up in between, and it is just what you ordered if you love romance like I do. It is 5 star romantic, all the way. Debra Mullins I salute you....good job!!! Great writing!!!!

Summary: entertaining Regency romance
Review: In 1810 Cornwall, Aveline Stoddard begs Lucien DuFeron not kill her father. Lord Chestwick lost a lot of money gambling to Lucien and then accused him of cheating. Lucien asks remittance on her father's gambling bill and will throw in the loser's life in exchange for three nights of sex with Aveline. Both are stunned by how much they enjoy the tryst, but on the final morning they depart with nasty words. A few months later she sends him a note informing him she is pregnant, but his best friend responds telling her to have a nice life.

Not long afterward, Lucien is assaulted and impressed leading to five years at sea. When he returns home he goes after Chestwick blaming him for the abduction, but the man is a shell having suffered a stroke. He meets five-year old Chloe, recognizes her as his daughter, and marries Aveline. He refuses to take her father with them to his estates so she refuses to have sex with him. When her father's gambling debts threaten Chloe, Lucien cleans up the mess. Aveline realizes her husband is honorable and they make love though she feels he is wrong about her father, but someone did betray him. If not her dad, who?

This entertaining Regency romance stars a delightful lead couple that seems perfect together especially during the three delectable nights. They later provide a Lyistrada-like morality battle when they reunite. Still both protagonists wear blindfolds when it comes to not seeing mountainous flaws of loved ones; this appears out of character for either of the strong duo. Award winning Debra Mullins furbishes a wonderful historical that the audience will relish.

Summary: The Romance Struggles. ** Grade: B- ** - A Low 4 Stars.
Review: Ninety pages into THREE NIGHTS . . . and Debra Mullins had me. Whew! Hot words. Hot characters. Hot story. So what happened? The story fizzled! A storyline that started with sparkling fire suddenly cooled!

In the waning hours of night, Aveline Stoddard solicits Lucien DuFeron. At dawn, two men will fight a duel - a duel over honor and gambling. Lucien DuFeron is the ruthless rogue who will, no doubt, win! Aveline's selfish father will, no doubt, die. So bravely, Aveline draws her own wager: her innocence for her father's life. DuFeron's answer: three nights in his company and her father will live. Agreed!

At the end of those three nights, the lovers ANGRILY separate. But three nights have left them sensually mesmerized. Yet, their memories are saturated with remorse and torment.

Two months later, Aveline realizes she is pregnant, scoundrels have shanghaied Lucien, and Mullins' hands her reader a floundering story.

Five years pass, a disfigured Lucien returns to England and is determined to inflict punishment. His first stop: the home of the Lord Chestwick, Aveline's father. His second stop: London, accompanied by his wife and child.

The remaining pages embroil loyalty, suspicion, and frustration. Aveline Stoddard's position: firmly behind her pathetic father. Lucien DuFeron's position: firmly behind his festering revenge. The reader's position: firmly in the spoiling hostility.

Final thoughts: Mullins writes the first few chapters with open and enthusiastic glory, but reckless loyalty and steadfast vengeance take over. The results: the book's romantic essence struggles and fails.
