Rating: Summary: Very Unpleasant! Review: This is the type of book that if it was the first romance book you ever read it might make you never want to read another one ever again. This is a very unpleasant story and Thankfully Johanna Lindsey has written better books that make up for this one so if you didn't like this book don't judge her ability as a writer for it. I myself have only disliked two of her books, A Pirate's Love which is what I'm reviewing and Captive Bride but I say give her other books a try!
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT Review: I adore this book! It was my first Johanna Lindsey novel and i have yet to find one of hers to match it although i think i might be slightly bias!! The Malory series is fantastic as well!! especially Gentle Rogue .... what more can i say i am addicted!! ...
Rating: Summary: Sorry, but I hated it! Review: This book is horrible and so beneath Johanna Lindsey, she's sure come a long way though since this book and has written some great books!
Rating: Summary: Sorry, but I loved it! Review: I know, I know--most readers hated this book. It was Lindsey's 2nd book ever (written in the 1970s) so you have to cut her some slack. But I have to say that I love this book and always have. I think Bettina is pretty spunky and she sure gives Tristan a hell of a time. And there is just something about a gorgeous pirate...Sigh!
Rating: Summary: Disgusting Review: In modern society today, do we consider rape sexy or romantic? Of course not! Which is why I say don't read this book. Tristan kidnaps Bettina and gets her pregnant after continually raping her. The only part of this I enjoyed was when Casey showed up and realized Bettina was his daughter, therefore thwarting Tristan's plans to try and get Bettina to stay. Also, I loved it when Bettina planted doubts about her child also being Tristan's. But the rest of this book is disgusting. I don't understand how Bettina can love Tristan after all he's done to her! I would NOT recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Horrible Review: This book is awful. Not only are the characters two dimensional and the plot cliche, but when it comes down to it, rape is never sexy. Don't bother with this book.
Rating: Summary: Disgusted Review: I like most of Johanna Lindseys books and in fact own all of them but I do not find rape exciting and can not figure how the heroine could fall in love with her tormentor. Oh Well! To each his own.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I give this books 5 stars not because I love Johanna Lindsey and hate to see her books get less than they deserve or because I like to be in the minority (which I generally am) but because I thought this book was great. I agree it was extreme but sometimes the traditional romance can get boring and you need something to spice it up.
Rating: Summary: I'm not too fond of cardboard characters. Review: I am absolutely dissapointed. The only reason why I finished the book is because I spent money to buy it. It took me almost 2 months to finish reading it because the characters in the story line was too lame.
Rating: Summary: A Pirate's Lust Is More Like It Review: This is really the same author who wrote Once A Princess? Ay di mi...I ask you this...if two cardboard cutout characters fall in the forest, does anybody care? I find it interesting that some reviewers were mortified by the rape ad nauseam (count me among them) while others couched it as dark romance. The true test of any novel is time. Can it be picked up 20+ years later and still have the impact it had upon publication? Let me get this straight...we're supposed to ignore the whole rape issue because, well, the book was written a while ago, and back then rape was somehow acceptable? Can we get a reality check here? There was so much wrong with this book beyond the rape and mistreatment of Bettina Verlaine--crappy writing, bland characters, ridiculously quick pacing, false emotions. But I will say that here in 2002, Johanna Lindsey is a fine novelist who has obviously learned a lot over the years. So I pan this particular early novel of hers, but still praise the author for her later work. Don't let this keep you from giving Lindsey a try.
