Rating: Summary: This is my favorite Jude Deveraux book of all times! Review: I have read this book years ago when I was going through a romance book period ~~ and this book has never left my bookshelf. I have found that every time I give this book away, I end up buying a new copy because I want to read it again. And I have noticed that this book has 155 reviews ~~ this book can't go wrong!Douglass Montgomery is abandoned by her boyfriend and his spoiled brat of a daughter ~~ and is rescued by a knight from the middle ages, Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thornwyck. And their story spans over hundreds of years ~~ when Nicholas returns to his own time, Douglass followed in turn. And together they right the wrong that has been done to Nicholas' family. It's such a wonderfully romantic story ~~ a fable to be sure ~~ but so wonderfully written and not so sappy like a lot of romance novels are! You find yourself reading the first paragraph and you can't put the book down till you find out what happens. Deveraux has a talent matched by very few in her field. It's a book to be cherished over time. 1-17-02
Rating: Summary: BUYER BEWARE: THIS IS A REVISED EDITION! Review: I bought the original A Knight in Shining Armor (AKISA) some years ago and absolutely loved it. It still remains as one of my very favorite books. I've always wanted a hardcover but it was hard to find. And then this new edition came along. I bought it in a heart beat. The price was good, too. I knew that it was a revised edition with more dialogue and description to reflect author's developed expertise as a writer and for a "smoother read" for the readers. By the way, readers, nothing changes in terms of plot or characters. There's no new information or ending. I don't know how others feel, but I'll say my own honest view. Although I'm glad I've bought this edition, I don't think it's a better version of AKISA. Jude Deveraux is my favorite author. I love her work and will buy and read everything she writes. But, to me, her "effort" to make what was already so great has kinda backfired. Some of the great original lines are gone. For example, in the original AKISA, Nicholas says, "Such disobedient children," referring to Romeo and Juliet. I loved it; but, now that line's gone. Nicholas now says, "They were nice parents," referring to the parents of Romeo and Juliet. Huh? Either the author is trying to be overly politically correct or she's just gotten too mellow. The heroine, Dougless, is much more sarcastic in this new version. She doesn't come across as a soft and vulnerable woman any more. She seems hard, old and jaded. Maybe it's just me. By the way, Jude's heroines seem to get more and more hard, old and jaded . . . I personally like soft, feminine (and even vulnerable) heroines. Why do heroines have to be so "stubborn" and "head-strong" in so many romance novels? Seems like most authors go for that type . . . for no good reason I can think of. Some of the new phrases inserted in the new edition apparently for humor were not funny at all to me. If anything, they seemed cheesy and Hollywood and seemed to pull down the beauty of the book. In conclusion, it's still a great read. It's a beautiful hardcover [...]. But, in my opinion, the original AKISA is a better version.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully charming Review: This book was SO incredible! I cried for hours after I finished reading this. I loved the way their love changed each other! He loved her for what and who she was, and expected nothing in return. She believed in him and loved him like none other. Together they try to change history. The way that Nick is so in awe of everything in the 20th century is absolutely adorable, and the way she charms the 16th century is just that...charming. My heart just warms to the fact that they fell in love with each other twice, once in her time, and again in his, despite all obstacles and barriers. This is the most wonderful book ever. Everyone must read this.
Rating: Summary: The best book ever Review: I've read a lot of Deveraux's books and I haven't been able to choose a favorite book. not this author or other, but after reading this book. I think the other books are like shadows compared to A Knight in Shining Armor. I love it and this is the best book ever!
Rating: Summary: Thank you Ms Deveraux! Review: No matter how many times I have read this book, it never fails to amaze me how beautiful the love between Dougless and Nicholas is. And across time!! After I read this book, the first thing that comes to my mind is "I want to thank Jude Deveraux!" I want to write a thank you letter to the woman who writes such a wonderfully romantic story. I started to search for her email, but no luck there. I couldnt find any address where i could send my letter to. I really really hope she would pop by here and read the reviews, and read this!! :D Thank you Ms Deveraux!

Rating: Summary: Fabulous Review: More than a dozen years later, I still remember being mesmerized by this book the first time I read it.
Rating: Summary: Enchanting Romance Review: First published in 1989, this read stands alone as a classic love story in the genre of romance. Recently updated to reflect the author's writing expertise, this well-loved novel is certain to become a favorite of those new to this spectacular love story. On vacation with her surgeon boyfriend, Robert, and his difficult daughter, Gloria, Dougless Montgomery is tired of being the woman unlucky in love and life. When Robert and Gloria once again mistreat Dougless , they leave her stranded at a church in England. Drawn by her sobbing against his tomb, Nicholas Stafford travels across time from the sixteenth century to appear at Dougless' side. Though she is convinced that Nicholas is an actor living his part, she soon begins to believe that he really is from the past. As, together they travel the countryside trying to discover who betrayed Nicholas in the 16th century, Douglass patiently introduces Nicholas to modern culture in a touching and comedic turn of events. As they begin to fall in love, they begin to wonder if their love is even possible. Can they change history and prevent Nicholas from being falsely accused of treason? As Dougless travels back to the sixteenth century, she soon discovers that Nicholas doesn't remember their being together. She carefully breaks down his defenses even as she enchants members of the Stafford household with her eclectic twentieth century repertory of songs and games. Even as their love comes into full bloom again, Dougless wonders if she can help Nicholas change history and be remembered for the remarkable man that he was. With such a likeable heroine and to-die-for hero, this read is a romance to be savored again and again. Even as it highlights the awesome power of love, it is filled with just enough history to enlighten the reader without overburdening them with unnecessary details. A truly dazzling read!
Rating: Summary: A lot to like and some not to like Review: I love time travel. I love Jude Deveraux. But this one I am not too sure about. The main character's name of Douglass was a little confusing at times. She whines. Women are treated badly in parts. Not that women aren't treated badly for real .... I just prefer stronger ladies. The whole thing was lacking...... something.
