Summary: What a disappointment!!!
Review: I read the reviews about the book and considering that it was in the bestsellers list for historical romance last year, I decided to give it a try.
Well, the first part of the book was not bad. In fact it had some witty dialogues and the characters were well developed, though it certainly wasn't up to what I expected (that's why I didn't rate it with 1 star). I know romance books are not supposed to be quantum physics but this? From the moment Lucien proposed her to marry him, the scenario started to fall apart. Every 10 pages the heroine would change her reasons for not marrying him. I'll just refer some of them: she wanted her independance, she believed he didn't love her, she owed it to her parents(!!!), she didn't want the scandals about her affecting him, she believed he was doing it to gain money and titles... For god's sake! It seems to me that the book was supposed to have ended there, except that the pages the writer had promised to complete were more so she kept writing and finding ways to keep it going in order to meet the editor's requirements! The last 100 pages were perhaps the worst I've read in a book.
Poor Lucien... I actually felt pity for him: he asked her to marry him almost 10 times and he was turned down all of them after doing everything in his power to help her reputation with the scandals that surrounded her, to get her father's paintings she had sold, to make up with her uncle and she kept on believing he did all these for himself??? Please, if she doesn't want to marry, let her be! The girl is the most ungrateful, stubborn and selfish I've read about. Save your time and read another book by Judith McNaught, Jude Deveraux or Julia London.

Summary: Witty and a good read
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The verbal exchange between the main characters was witty and full of humor. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: WOW! A KEEPER!
Review: I went out and bought this book on the stengths of the reviews on the board and I must say I was not disappointed. My friend recommended the book, but since we have different tastes, I had too check out the review board. Thumbs up for the reviewers and the book. This was the first time I had read Suzanne Enoch, but it definitely won't be the last. The book follows the heroic efforts of a rake in pursuit of his love--sigh--and the lengths he will go to win her love -- sigh again. Gosh, she is certainly one lucky gal! Anyway, the book was highly entertaining and I just love both of the characters. Can't wait for her next book--in the meantime, I will scout out her older books! Glad I picked up the book before it was out of stock.

Summary: If you can't find anything else...
Review: If you can't find anything else, this book will do for an amusing read (after you get through about 200 pages). Lucien, a notorious earl, hires Alexandra to teach his cousin how to snag a titled husband. Of course, the second Lucien sets eyes on Alexandra, he's done for - he's just got to have her!

The story is interesting at first, hinting that both Alexandra and Lucien have past secrets (such as the scandal surrounding Alexandra and the relationships that Lucien has with his family members). When the information is finally provided to satisfy the reader's curiosity, however, the explanations aren't given enough of....something. Each time (except for when the reader finds out what Fiona's up to) something that should have been shocking is revealed, it's, like, "That's it?"

A little over half-way through, the story picks up the pace, and Lucien's numerouse attempts to win Alexandra are sweet. The plot gets interesting again, and the ending is good...if not drawn out a bit. I'd pick this book up if you can't find anything else, but don't expect much.

Summary: WHAT A WONDERFUL READ!
Review: It does not surprise me that this book is unavailable - it sold out! That is how wonderful it is, the sales speak for themselves!

Lucien has to hire a governess for his obnoxious cousin and her mother in order to properly launch her into Society. Turning this country bumpkin into a "Lady" that the Ton would approve of would be no easy feat. In walks Alexandra Beatrice Gallant and Lucien just about swallowed his tongue! He didn't care if she had experience or not - she was hired! All he wanted was Ms. Gallant, naked preferably, all to himself!

Get ready for a charming romance set in the Regency period. Wicked humor and laugh out loud scenes - the secondary characters are a blast and so was the villain!

Find it, buy it, read it... you won't regret it!

Summary: Maybe 3 & 1/2 -- Lucien's great; best as part of series
Review: Lucien IS wickedly witty and an impressive seducer. It's refreshing for the man to realize he wants a permanent commitment first; Lucien keeps after Alexandra until she finally acquieses. How on earth could she resist so long? Her refusals did get old and seemed to be based on flimsy reasoning. She's okay as a heroine, but not nearly as strong a character as Lucien. Frankly, she deserved being kidnapped.

Aunt Fiona is a woman worth getting angry with, but Rose is generally annoying. What Lucien's best friend sees in her is still beyond me. Characters who show up in later novels, like Emma Grenville, are a welcome addition. FYI, "With This Ring" nad "Lessons in Love" series reference the same characters.

Summary: Fairly generic romance
Review: Non-offensive, for the most part, but also non-original. Cynical rake (yawn) who only wants a broodmare for a wife meets independant, outspoken bluestocking ... Better than average writing makes this spin through Yet Another Regency novel worth sticking it through to the end, but it's certainly not going on my keeper shelf.

Summary: A Wonderful Must Have
Review: Reforming A Rake does a great job of entertaining the reader from start to finish. The characters and plot are superb. Suzanne Enoch has created a fun and exciting story.

Alexandra Gallant is a governess with a horrible reputation. She has ruined herself and can not find a position in any respectable household.

Lucien Balfour, the Earl of Kilcairn Abbey, is the worst kind of rake. His reputation is atrocious and debutantes faint at the sight of him. Lucien must find a suitable governess and companion for his wayward cousin and her overbearing mother. He needs someone who can prepare his cousin, Rose, to be presented to society. Even after finding out all the details of Alexandra's reputation, Lucien hires her.

Alexander does a grand job of transforming Rose into a society miss. However, Rose's mother, Fiona causes trouble for Lucien and Alexandra. The story moves along at a fast pace and is very easy to read. There are several wonderful supporting characters who provide lots of comic relief and help to make the story a pleasure to read.

Summary: Vastly Entertaining
Review: Reforming a Rake was wonderful. Lucien kept me laughing throughout the book. He says what is on his mind, regardless of who it is too. Alexandra and Lucien are so different but they fit so well together. This book is a feel good book that will leave you smiling. You definitely do not want to miss Vixen's and Emma's stories. They are just as good.
