Rating: Summary: Governess and Notorious Rake Review: "Reforming a Rake" is a good book. I enjoyed it because there were so many obstacles and then there were also so many changes. Lucien Balfour, the Sixth Earl of Kilcairn, is cornered into taking in his aunt and cousin into his home for him to look after. They move in with him and he finds his Aunt Fiona, and cousin Rose is a nuisance and the only way he can get rid of them is to marry off Rose with some other guy. When he actually meets Rose, Lucien discovers that he'll never marry her off because she doesn't have style, class or elegance SO he hires Alexander Gallant as Rose's governess. Alexander Gallant has been unemployed for the last six months because of a certain scandal. (I'm not going to get into that!) When she came across an advertisement in the newspaper, about a need for a governess, she went to answer it and it was Lucien. Lucien hired her but Alexander isn't sure if that was a mistake because she was attracted to him and she's not supposed to feel that way because she is a governess. But trouble strikes when Alexander's past pops up and Aunt Fiona conspires to separate Lucien and Alexander. Will there love survive these hurdles or would they break apart? I'm not exactly sure how to finish up the last part because I want to some how capture readers into reading this book. I think it's a wonderful romance story because of the way Lucien and Alexander act. They bicker with each other like children and they make definite changes in each other even if they don't notice it. I hope that people who read this book will enjoy it the way I have enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: I have to agree with some of the previous reviews.... Review: ...if you have read previous Suzanne Enoch books, and were not too impressed, give her another chance. REFORMING A RAKE is her best book, and if her next book is equally as good, she will be added to my autobuy list.
Rating: Summary: Seriously flawed governess story Review: After reading so many of these books, I have a pretty strong sense of the period, and this book just didn't pass muster, for a number of reasons. For example, I have NEVER heard of young girls being presented at court to "Prince George." They always "make their curtsey" to the Queen. And, for that matter, I don't recall ever hearing this fellow referred to as "Prince George." He's always "the Regent" in these stories. And no matter how much influence you have, being presented at court requires a great deal of preparation and elaborate costuming. You certainly don't present someone at court with a half-day's notice! There are plenty of other historical details in this book that trouble me, but I won't be going into all of them here, since I am not a historian and will freely admit that I am not an expert. But I have to say that the few instances of French used in this novel are sadly incorrect and terribly insulting to French teachers everywhere. An author can be forgiven for not being a linguist and for making a mistake here and there, but the mistakes here are truly embarrassing. I must assume that the editor is just as ignorant of French as the author, but why an editor worth her salt wouldn't seek help from a consultant prior to printing thousands of these books just floors me. But then, they probably assume that most readers don't know French and will be easily fooled by a few strategically-placed French phrases. And perhaps they're right. But those of us who are knowledgeable enough to know when we've been insulted won't be springing for any more books by this author.
Rating: Summary: Very Light Reading, but Well Done and Humorous Review: For some reason when I bought this book I'd bought several "governess and master" books - this one was the best of them. Lucien was an excellent hero - quite the rake, and I liked the Heroine - she was made of strong stuff, and no ninny. I did have to willfully suspend my disbelief toward the end (Lucien's methods of persuasion were a little extreme for me), but in all this is enjoyable. The author actually WRITES better than many of the bestselling romance author, but her structure is a little slippy and the rather extreme actions of the hero do cost her. Still, I'm betting she'll hit one out of the part one day. Why oh why won't anyone write an 1890's BASEBALL romance???? :-)
Rating: Summary: AN ORIGINAL Review: Great story and characters you will actually care about. A funny and sexy regency romance with little angst. A keeper.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Regency romance Review: His deceased uncle and father laid the family obligation on him. Though he would prefer his Aunt Fiona and her daughter Rose would go somewhere else, the Earl of Kilcairn, Lucien Balfour will do the right thing and introduce his cousin to society. However, Lucien's first action is to fire Rose's governess for allowing her charge to look like a "poodle with the style of a milkmaid." He has his solicitor advertise for a new governess. Alexandra Gallant desperately needs a new job after her former employer and his spouse accused of sexual misconduct when all she did was reject the odious man's advances. After failing to obtain new work all week, she answers Balfour's ad and is hired immediately to serve as a companion to the troublesome Rose. Alexandra knows that Balfour is one of the Ton's most notorious rakes yet her wayward heart beats faster every time she sees him. With novels like TAMING RAFE and BY LOVE UNDONE, Suzanne Enoch has earned a reputation for her entertaining historical romances. As good as those and others are, her latest Regency romance, REFORMING A RAKE is her best work yet. Though the story line follows the usual sub-genre boundaries, the tale never slows down as the battle of the sexes occur. The lead couple is wonderful, especially the arrogant but openly honest Lucien. His cousin and aunt add a delightful eccentricity to the marvelous mix. Fans of the sub-genre will not get enough of Ms. Enoch after this passionate winner.

Rating: Summary: I loved it!!!!!! Review: I bought this book many months ago and I loved it! Lucien is to die for and Alexandra is so stubborn, but perfect for the Earl. The dialogue was extremely funny. Lucien is the best hero you could ever find. I loved the way he did everything for Alexandra and she was still stubborn till the very end. I've read this book many times over and I know I'll read it many more times in the future. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes romances.
Rating: Summary: What a Hero! Review: I caught myself laughing so many times in this book! I loved Lucien - he was so rude and just didn't care what anyone else thought but once he knew he was in love he did everything to win her heart. His pride didn't get in the way, but seemed to help push him over. I loved it - I was my first by Suzanne Enoch, but definitely won't be my last.
