Summary: Best romance writer
Review: Loretta Chase is one of the best romance writers I have ever read. And this story is simply wonderful. It's rich in historical detail and plot. But it is her characterizations that are so wonderful. These people jump off the page. They live and breathe. Ainswood met his match in Lydia, Lady Grendel is positively one of the best heroines in romantic fiction. If there is one thing wrong with Ms. Chase's books, it's that they end. I highly recommend this book

Summary: 1 blueblooded hellraiser+ 1 beautiful reformer=a great read
Review: Meet Vere, a congenital hedonist who just can't seem to stay out of trouble. Meet Lydia, a scarily competent newspaper reporter who, when she's not muckraking, spends her time rescuing women from procuresses. Now put them together in an alley and count how many sparks they strike off of eachother. For Vere, irritation and wounded pride are all too quickly superceded by desperate desire, while Lydia knows that to give in to him is to lose all.

Summary: THERE'S LIFE AFTER LORD OF SCOUNDRELS.......!
Review: The humor is on the same level as Lord of Scoundrels, but the story is too convoluted to me. The family tree is a bit confusing that I had to re-read some parts a few times. I love Vere & Lydia (but I still think the hysterically funny Dain & Jessica are incomparable). I also like the secondary characters, the dim-witted Bertie, who turned out to be not that slow as he got himself hitched to a bispectacled girl (1 of Lydia's charity cases). The other thing that I always love to see is the leading man & lady from previous novel show up in the sequel & still manage to make me crack up big time. The part where Vere conversed with Lydia's beloved dog, Susan keeps me chuckling with glee. The only thing that bugs me a little bit is that Vere keeps calling his Duchess - Grenville, instead of Lydia, throughout the story, which doesn't sound that romantic. Lydia certainly is a perfect match for Vere. She punched him, belittled him, loved him, and stuck with him through better and worse times. Vere may not look like a besotted fool on the outside, but he is a helpless romantic at heart, collecting precious keepsakes (Lydia's hairpin etc). Overall, this is a very lovely book U won't want to miss in your lifetime. Hmmm.... Now I'm gonna start on my 4th & 5th Chase novels, Viscount Vagabond & The devil's delilah, which are sitting dutifully on my bed as I type this rave review. My addiction to anything by her will never go away, as long as her fertile mind keeps spouting dazzling books like this..... =P :)

Summary: Loved it!
Review: There are three authors that I will buy without even reading the synopsis: Linda Howard, Joan Wolf, and Loretta Chase. LC is a very recent addition to my list. Previous to 'The Last Hellion' I had only read two of her books...'Lord of Scoundrels' and 'Captives of the Night'. I loved them too, but I think I like this one even better. The heroine is smart and interesting. I really liked the way Vere (the hero) is confused and emotional (still strong and confident though) while the heroine is cool and logical. This is currently one of my 'desert island' books.

Summary: This book needs an editor!
Review: This book reminds me of quite a few papers written at about 2 in the morning when I was in college. Although it definitely had potential, it comes off as more of a first draft than a final version. I found it painful to read a book where the author couldn't even keep the characters' names straight, much less construct well thought out sentences! Don't read this book unless you can stomach the often horrible writing which accompanies a sometimes interesting plot.

Summary: The Last Hellion is a fun read!!
Review: This is a fun read. It has some of the most hilarious scenes in it, so don't read it in a quiet library. But you will laugh out loud.

Lydia Grenville is a crusader against illegal prostitution in England and spends most of her time writing scathing articles to that affect. She also rescues young country girls from the hands of sexual abductors whom lure the girls under false pretenses.

Vere Mallory, the unprepared Duke of Ainswood battles his own insecure demons with drink, gambling, and wenching. He stumbles upon Lydia by intervening during a brawl between she and a well-known dangerous madame. He was infuriated with Lydia's outspoken candid personality but madly intriqued with her also. Thus the chase begins. He begins to 'watch her back' while she ventures into the various dens of aniquity scooping stories or rescuing girls. Why does he care so much? He himself doesn't understand. She challenges him in all things, including marriage if losing a race. She exasperates him to the point of tying her to a bed and locking the door. But first he has to catch her!

This is a fun read!! I would not say that it is overly romantic, or realistic, but definitely fun, fun, fun!!!

Summary: A wonderful tale of passion and redemption!
Review: This is a keeper for sure. He is Vere Mallory, the notorious Duke of Ainswood and she is Lydia Grenville, determined to save womankind from men like the Duke. Vere spends most of his time drinking and gambling and it takes one special woman to lead him out of that dark abyss. I picked up this book and read it straight through without puting it down once. A wonderful read! I'd recommend it to anyone. I'd also recommend all of Loretta Chase's other books, she's a superb author.

Summary: I had high expectations but......
Review: This is the first book by Loretta Chase that I've read. I bought this book based on the good reviews. I enjoyed thie beginning very much. Lydia was a great herione. She had all the qualities that I like in a heroine. She was smart, brave and independent. I didn't really like Vere that much. He was so overdone that I really couldn't warm up to him at all. I know he suffered a lot of personal tradgey but he needed to get over it already.

In the beginning the verbal foreplay between Lydia and Vere was great. When the finally did have sex, the scenes were disappointing. They didn't have any of the passion that I expected and they were pretty boring.

At about page 252 this book seemed never ending. It dragged and dragged and Ms. Chase added in my opinion an unnecessary plot twist. Also the constant references to to her previous books was annoying.

Summary: Pretty good story, a little wordy
Review: This was my first book that I've read by Loretta Chase. That Last Hellion was the sequel to Lord of Scoundrels.

Twenty-eight year old Lydia Grenville was perfectly happy living her life as a journalist and trying to help the prositutes and women on the streets. Then one day she meets her match, the notorious Duke of Ainswood, the last hellion of the Mallory clan.

Although Lydia and Vere cannot control the attraction they have for eachother, both try to deny it. Vere shows up where Lydia is and ruins her plans for a story, he follows her around, tries to seduce her. When he finds he cannot seduce her he offers marriage. She refuses, but both their tempers get in the way when she agrees to a race, if she loses she must marry the duke. She doesn't lose, but the duke is hurt and Lydia realizes she cannot live without him and agrees to marry him. The two marry, still argue all the time, Lydia writes books and they realize they are in love.

This book was pretty good, but found it to be (although very funny at times) a little wordy and my attention span was lost a few times. If not for that, I may have rated it a little better.

Summary: Amazing!
Review: What an incredible book! The sparring between Vere and Lady Grendel was the most enjoyable part of this book and had me laughing out loud on many occasions. The sexual tension was fantastic, and the characterization and dialog superb! Vere's grief over the many deaths in his family, especially little Robin, was handled very well without being melodramatic or maudlin. I understood his resentment at being a duke by default. And what a heroine! If you get a little tired of the naïve, meek virginal types, you'll enjoy Lydia. She more than holds her own against the rakish Duke of Ainswood. It was also nice to see the hero and heroine from LORD OF SCOUNDRELS in this book, and that Jessica is still civilizing Dain. And I also was happy to see that Bertie finally managed to find a woman who could appreciate his sweet oddness. The Charles II scenes were very funny. A classic!
