Summary: Actually..3 1/2 stars.......
Review: I really enoyed " The Last Hellion". I found Vere's sweetness and that fact that he was embarassed by his sentimental side and his kindess to be adorable!! I really enjoyed his and Lydia's sparring..Also, it was sweet to see Bertie and Tamsin get together...I loved the fact that Sebastian and Jess were included in this book, but I wished that there had been some more scenes with Jess..we didn't really get to see her at all...Oh well...not my favorite story, but definitely not a bad one either....Charming.

Summary: Another great read from Ms. Chase...
Review: I simply love her heroines... Jessica from the Lord of the Scoundrels and now Lydia in this book. She is full of purpose and independent. Perhaps a little wild in the historical standard, but a great story character. I agree with the last reviewer about the secondry characters and loved the appearance of Dain and Jessica. Vere thought that he was helping Lydia, but kept getting her mad by interferring with her activities. The story is fast paced withmany characters, I enjoyed that fact, however some readers may find it choppy and fragmented. I can't wait for another book from Ms. Chase. Bring us more incredible heroines!

Summary: Hell of a good story
Review: I swore off Daniel Steele due to death scene images that depress me years later. Be forwarned, the prologue to The Last Hellion may lead to symptoms of melancholia. The cure, I'm happy to report, is found by reading the rest of this wonderful story. Grenville is more than a match for Vere, both in Vinegar Yard and in the bedroom. My favorite part was the wedding night when our hero pounded on his best friend's bedroom door: "The door swung inward and six and one-half feet of dark, arrogant, half-Italian, so-called friend advanced to fill the doorway. 'Ah, Ainswood. Come for instruction, have you?'" Hilarious. I was also glad to see Bertie from Lord of Scoundrels get some respect. His thought processes are disturbingly familiar. Do yourself a favor and read Lord of Scoundrels, The Last Hellion and Captives of the Night. Great reads, all.

Summary: I couldn't put the book down!
Review: I've been reading romance novels of all kinds for 17 years and rarely do I read one I can't put down! I stayed up til 2 am to finish it and was late for work the next day! The verbal sparring between the hero and heroine made me laugh out loud! I rarely find an author other than Catherine Coulter that makes romance light and deep and so amusing! Kudos to Ms. Chase for bringing laughter into the romance world!

Summary: Books by Loretta Chase are worth waiting for!
Review: I've enjoyed Loretta Chase since she used to write Regencies for Walker Publishing. Her research is first-rate and her characters full-blown and believable. The sexual tension she generates between her protagonists is always exciting and rewarding, too. Grenville and Mallory are made for each other, of course. Lydia Grenville was born to heal Mallory, the Duke of Ainswood's, tortured soul. They both lost children they adored---Lydia her little sister, Mallory his young nephew, and the losses bring them together. But, first, sparks fly as the two challenge and bring out the best (or is it the worst?) in each other and titillate the ton (English high society) with their very public antics and capers. There's a great dog in the story, too, great in size and great in personality. Loretta Chase is not one of those romance writers who comes out with a book every few months, but when she does come out with one, it is "cherce" (to quote Spencer Tracy describing Katherine Hepburn in one of their films). Chase's novels are "cherce" and worth the waiting. Unforgettable, too.

Summary: A terrific story by a great talent
Review: In 1828 London, The Duke of Ainswood, Lord Vere Mallory, is renowned as the "Last Mallory Hellion" for his role as the leader of the Corinthians. The group is dedicated to wine and women. Lydia Grenville is an independent woman, who anonymously earns a living by contributing to Argus Magazine. Her "Rose of Thebes" piece has been very well acclaimed and people want more from the unknown writer.

When Vere meets Lydia, the world of the Ton shakes. He decides to use all his considerable charm to seduce her, while she plans to use her sharp tongue and caustic pen to cut the big man down to size. However, neither one expected love to intercede between them. Though she offers him everything she is, can he finally accept the one thing that he has always rejected in order for both to obtain a lifetime of happiness?

Loretta Chase confirms why she is a two time winner of the RITA Award with her latest romance, THE LAST HELLION. The novel, the sequel to the wonderful LORD OF SCOUDNELS, is a very humorous and sensual Regency romance. The lead characters are a charming pair, but it is the witty story line that shows why most romance writers are chasing after this great talent.

Summary: The BEST-
Review: Loretta Chase can do NO wrong! Catch her books if you can. Vere Mallory, Duke of Ainswood is the most human of all Regency HEROS! Marvelous dialogue! Great character development! Can't be better - except maybe the scene in Lord of Scoundrels on the Paris street!

Summary: Great fun, Give us MORE!!
Review: Loretta Chase has been one of my favorite authors for years. I love her characters and her plotting. Vere Mallory has a lot of excuse for his rotten behavior, but our heroine, Lydia Grenville, doesn't let him get away with avoiding his responsibilities. The chemistry between the characters and the repartee are both thoroughly enjoyable.

My only objection to this book comes from the history: I couldn't reconcile the hero with his cameo appearance in Lord of Scoundrels. Also, I must regretfully admit that I did not find it to be the equal of either Lord of Scoundrels or the short story The Mad Earl's Bride. Still, as a stand-alone story, it compares favorably with most historicals.

Loretta Chase has written another entertaining historical novel. The heroine is outstanding, and, for a change, wins more than her share of the encounters between the protagonists. A refreshing outcome!

Summary: Fun and Thoughtful
Review: Loretta Chase is definately one of my favorite authors mainly because she is a "smart" writer. By smart, I mean that she does not dumb down her writing so that you feel like you're reading about a couple of teenagers. She writes the best dialogue. She creates characters that are lovable, sexy, witty, and compassionate. The thing that really grabs me is the poignantcy that comes across without being sappy. "Grenville" and "Ainsley" are eminently lovable characters. They are not as intense as her characters from "Lord of Scoundrels," but excellent characters, nonetheless. I will not go into what the story is about in this review as it is posted all over this review page, but suffice it to say, you will not be disappointed. The romance is sweet as well as erotic, but the thing that sets the hero and heroine apart from others is that you get the sense that not only are they romantically attracted to each other, but they really like each other as friends as well. Lastly, thank goodness that the cover of this book isn't as silly as "Lord of Scoundrels!" Happy reading!
