Summary: I found the book rather boring
Review: Am I the only one who didn't like this book? After all the hype I heard, I couldn't wait to read it. What a disappointment. I thought it was adequate, period. I couldn't get engaged with the characters.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A fantastic read by an incredibly talented writer!
Review: From Viscount Vagabond to The Last Hellion, I've been in love with Loretta Chase's writing. She always delivers intense emotion, characters you adore and wonderful humor, passion and great plots! I think that Loretta Chase is not just one of the premiere Romance writers today, but one of the premiere novelists in publication! This is the writer for the jaded reader. Books like she writes only come along once or twice a year, if that. She stands out ahead of everyone in quality. I can't say enough good things about her writing.

Summary: Great book, unbelievably awful editing
Review: I am enjoying this book to the max. In one word, it is HILARIOUS. But, the editing is so bad, it's confusing. The heroine is sometimes called Lydia Grenville, sometimes it Grendel. At one point, the hero decided he should unmask "Sarah Siddons Grenville". Who in the world is that? Lydia had a sister Sarah who died years ago. Sometimes, I feel like I'm reading two books that got meshed together. That aside, this is a very enjoyable book.

Summary: WITTIOUS DIALOGUE
Review: I can't say enough about this book. I haven't even finished it yet and love every word I have read. It is funny and has the most witty, quick retorts in the dialogue. The characters are perfect and Susan is as adorable as a giant mastiff can be. I have read so many of her books and this is my favorite already. I highly recommend this book for it's humor, wit, and entertaining very different story line. Hard to find but worth the effort.

Summary: A fun read, with some good messages
Review: I enjoyed this book so much! This author has a great way with dialog. Her heroine never stops being a thoughtful, smart, as well as lovely woman. And the peripheral relationships are well drawn too. I found the family connections at the end just a little too convenient, but that didn't really spoil any of the rest of the book. And it was very "human" about conditions of the era, and how a caring person would have to work to improve them.

Summary: Interesting story with strong characters
Review: I found the story to be very well-written and fast paced. For a change, it's nice to read not just about the parties of the ton, but also about some of the social problems of the time like prostitution, women's rights, etc. I thought that Loretta Chase did a great job of intertwining these elements with the love story. Also loved the character of Lydia - how refreshing to see a woman not in constant need of a man to protect her! The dialogue between them was snappy and funny - I found myself laughing out loud at their verbal sparring. Am now hoping that Lord Sellowby's story will be written next!

Summary: Fun
Review: I liked the characters -- like in 'Lord Of Scoundrels'
the couple had great chemistry. I didn't enjoy the
story as much though ... some things stuck out as just too
far-fetched. The Duke of Ainswood is the drunk character
from LOS that Dain fought w/. He keeps pulling the
reporter girl out of trouble.
There are some laughs here and a
couple sexy scenes (nothing too racey).

I will, of course, read the next; "Captives of the Night"

Summary: Wonderful, funny, touching, why does she write so slowly???
Review: I love Loretta Chase's book, she is truly original, writing in a style all her own, her characters (though similar from book to book) are "her own" and not a cliché.

I enjoy the way she gets lovers together that seemingly are opposites of each other and where a lot of prejudice comes in at the beginning. Then, and that is where she is special, the prejudice and the attraction are both addressed. I really lose interest in a book if a heroine, deeply convinced that the hero is a total monster, still gives in to her physical attraction to him. It is very difficult for an author to pull off giving in to lust while feeling contempt. It nearly never works (at least for me). So, the way both characters discover good things about each other, and how this makes the attraction grow, I really enjoy that here. It is a heartwarming romance, where the tension between the two lovers is palpable throughout, and acted out in a convincing way.

Another thing I enjoy in her writing is the way falling in love suddenly "breaks up" some old wounds of the characters that they have then to deal with. Loved ones lost, or a lack of love in childhood, etc. It is so true that love is a huge upheaval and suddenly shakes loose parts of our soul that we ignored or so.

And finally, she does all this in a very funny way. I keep laughing at her characters ideas and dialogue, and yet it never stops being emotionally genuine even in all the laughter.

A very special author, I regret that she does not write faster!

Summary: Wonderful sequel to "Lord of Scoundrels"
Review: I loved "Lord of Scoundrels" so very much, I could not wait to read "The Last Hellion". This book was fantastic. I loved Vere and 'Grenville'. She was spunky, (much like Jessica in LOS) and he was a rake, a drunken sot who needed a strong woman and a great deal of love. I highly recommend this book if you liked LOS!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Enjoyable but it was no Lord of Scoundrels
Review: I paid a ridiculous amount of money for this book because after reading the vastly superior Lord of Scoundrels I was totally hooked on this author. However, I was a bit disappointed because while The Last Hellion is still an enjoyable read it lacked the sizzle and originality of the former. This the story of independent Lydia and Vere Mallory who was first introduced in LOS. Basically Vere meets Lydia while she's trying to rescue an innocent from being abducted and pressed into prostitution. She catches his attention and he proceeds to follow her all over town while she is dressed in silly costumes in a series of scenes that have nothing whatsoever to do with the rest of the story. This basically sums up the first half of the story, and I was left with the impression that the author was merely trying to fill up pages. The romance is slow and it never really heats up, even the appearance of Dain and Jessica from LOS fails to animate the story. The reason I gave it three stars instead of one is because Lord Of Scoundrels has become one of my all time favorites and because of that I will give this author another try.
