Rating: Summary: Read the Book Review: I think that we can all agree that when we pick up a book to read we want certain things from it. When I pick up a book like At Last, I simply want to be entertained. However, this book did more than entertain me -- it educted me, amused me, made me a bit sad (for only a little while) and it made me glad that I discovered this author. So all I can tell you about At Last is don't buy it if you're simply looking to be entertained because the book does so much more than that, even makes you think. The next time I go to purchase a book by Ms. Riley, I'll be prepared.

Rating: Summary: At Last...a surprising disappointment.. Review: I was keen on reading another interracial novel, and so I chose this one at random. And boy was I disappointed...My list of IR includes the amazing authors, Sandra Kitt, Seressia Glass, and Gwynne Forster. I was ready to be swept away and anticipated adding Miss Riley to the list, again I was disappointed. The novel grabs you right away and things move very quickly in the first few chapters. Brian and Caroline fell in love right then and there, and while that was surprising and new; this intensity unfortunately didn't carry on throughout the novel. It was like being on a roller coaster and having an amazing drop after take-off and then having the rest of the experience being a slow tour-like ride. What I also found particularly annoying were the writing technicalities in the book. For example, the spacing and sequencing of events made it often difficult to follow the story line. For instance, one minute you're reading a paragraph about the couple being at dinner, and the following sentence would have the couple in Brian's loft. Usually in novels a new paragraph would be started after a spacing to indicate a transition from one event to the next. This happened all through out the book. Also there were a few pages that were typed entirely in italics (pages 157-160). Usually italics are used for emphasis or for the reader to know that this is a character's train of thought. This gramatical rule was completely ignored. There was also a few " Lisa G/Last" sprinkled in the book. I only guessed that that was the author's heading in the manuscript that was forgotten to be edited out.The novel clearly needed to be edited (correctly). After all that the development of the relationship between the characters was slow and not very progressive. The loves scenes were few and not very discriptive. The previous novels i've read usually leave me smiling and satisfied afteward, because of either a marriage, baby, or engagement even in the epilogue... I struggled to complete the novel because it lacked "IT" that dynamics that holds you and makes you want more and more. This novel did that in the first 3 chapter and just you hanging, struggling to get through the rest. And after I did finally get through it there was nothing "special" that would make me want to pick it up again.
Rating: Summary: So - So Review: I wasn't feeling the beginning of this book. It was a bit too stereotypical and I'm sorry to use an 80's term, but fresh. It did settle down towards the middle of the book and that really saved it from it's shaky start. Some characters weren't developed as well or just confused me to irritation, but overall it was a nice and okay read. Just not the best.
Rating: Summary: Pleasantly surprised! Review: Initially as I was reading At Last I thought that this book just came off unrealistic and corny. Once again, the black woman is resistant to an interracial romance with her potential white beau, who has to go through all these ridiculous hoops to win her affections. Lisa Riley proved me wrong as I continued to read. I thought the twist with the stalker and Brian's ex would ruin the novel, but Ms Riley is a smart enough writer to leave these plots toward the end of the book, and focus on the romance blossoming between Caroline and Brian. I think she did a terrific job at showing how relationships really work. The arguments and disappointments she let the characters go through is so realistic, and Caroline stands up for her man. She doesn't get burdened down by 'black guilt', and loves Brian passionately. I do believe in my heart that Ms. Riley's next novel will be another interracial romance, this time between Brian's drop dead gorgeous friend Jack, and Caroline's best friend Tracey. It will be very spicy since these two characters are very spunky and both are not looking to fall in love. Kudos to Ms. Riley!

Rating: Summary: Great Story, Lousy Editing Review: Lucky for us all that the author is talented, otherwise all of the editing mistakes in this book would detract from the story. Characters are so obviously in love and so likeable. Dialogue is quite good and the story flows nicely. Wish I'd read it before author's second book, but I recommend both.
Rating: Summary: A good and satisfying book Review: Ms Lisa Riley did a good job, in my opinion. It took me 5 days to read this book and even though there were some editorial errors here and there, it did not stop me from understanding the flow of the book. Caroline and Brian have been portrayed as likeable human beings and I like that. Also their choice in life partners is theirs, as Ms Riley outlines. Caroline is successful so is Brian and Brian protects her, or at least wants to protect her fiercely. It is only natural to protect what you love. I love this book and I will read it all over again soon. I can highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: At Last? Try Still Waiting Review: No, this is not a great book. This is the book you take to the beach or picnic to glance at from time to time. Sure there were pretty suspenseful elements to the plot but the other is pretty much cow hooey. Buy this ONLY if you have nothing else to read.
