Summary: Another Hit By Cara Lockwood
Review: As a big fan of I do (but I don't) by Cara Lockwood, I couldn't wait to dive into her newest book Pink Slip Party, I was not surprised to find a well written book that draws the reader in from page one. With laugh out loud humor Lockwood tells the tale of 29 year old Jane, who loses her job and her boyfriend, who's also her boss in one fell swoop. Unemployment becomes a downhill journey with one letdown after another, and soon she is in peril of losing her prized apartment not to mention starving to death. With a zany cast including a roommate from hell, a goody-two-shoes older brother, a flaky bestfriend, a wannabe rock star ex-boyfriend and his trio of muses, a chauvinistic father and a surprising new love interest, Jane explores the miseries of unemployment and the debasement that comes with it. The story might be slow to start for some, though I didn't find it so, the finish is nothing short of hilarious. Definitely a hit for me. Can't wait for Lockwoods next book.

Summary: A Perfect Read for Every Corporate Casualty!
Review: As someone who has been laid off more than once during her career, I laughed out loud at Lockwood's latest. I loved her first book "I Do (But I Don't)" but found "Pink Slip Party" even more enjoyable. The characters are hilarious and the dialogue is snappy; I couldn't put the book down. After reading it, I wondered what it would have been like if I sought revenge on my former employers. Ta-da! Lockwood does it again!

Summary: disappointed in Lockwood
Review: I LOVED her first book, "I Do, but I Don't" so I couldn't wait to read her 2nd novel. It was a cute story but definately did not have the same charm and sarcasm as her first.

Summary: Great Fun to Read
Review: I loved this book! When Jane McGregor, the main character is laid off, she finds her troubles are just beginning. Maxed out, broke, and unemployed, Jane's troubles only mount as family members reveal their own troubles. Can Jane possibly find a way out of her quagmire?! This is a fast and fun read, typical chick lit and the story line was imaginative and playful. I read it in just two days and would recommend it to anyone looking for something light and lots of fun!

Summary: Sixteen Candles and Other Glaring Mistakes
Review: I must thank the recent reviewer who tried to discredit me regarding the overt editing blunders I noticed in this book, because now I have an opportunity to clarify my point...and to prove said reviewer totally wrong. (Please don't question good readers if you're not one yourself.) Lockwood peppers her book with pop culture references. However, this technique only works if the author is accurate. Otherwise, in my opinion, all authorial credibility is undermined. Unfortunately, Lockwood's constant need to throw in these pop culture tidbits only magnifies each mistake that she makes when it comes to even the most common facts. e.g. she carelessly misspells celeb names like "Sean AUstin" (pg. 122), "RickY Lake" (pg. 111). And the piece de resistance, she obviously mistakes the film "Pretty in Pink" for "Sixteen Candles" when she writes, "My dad, who has never been comforting, being the opposite of the dad in Sixteen Candles..." (pg. 280).

Lastly, inexplicably, Lockwood names two characters the same, very unique name "Deena". This gnawed at me because these two girls are not the same person (one is Todd's girlfriend and another is just a minor character), and there is absolutely no reason for their names to be identical. It only makes things confusing. Now, I'm willing to bet that, in light of the rest of her mistakes, Lockwood actually forgot that she already blessed Todd's sister with that moniker, and named a passing character the same thing because she wanted to use it somewhere in her novel. My point once again: this is a sloppy book that's not worth a skilled reader's time.

Summary: Great read...but her lack of backbone was annoying
Review: I thought this book was great. I read her previous book and decided she would go on my list of authors. But what I FOUND ANNOYING was that she let all these people take over her, and I spent much of the book wishing she would tell these people off and kick them out or something. That was quite frustrating...so if you are one of those readers that easily gets annoyed by characters (ie. Becky Bloomwood's spending sprees in Shopaholic) then beware of this characters lack of backbone.

Summary: Witty and amusing
Review: I'd read Cara Lockwood's first book, "I Do (But I Don't)" and enjoyed it, so I picked this one up at the bookstore when I saw it. I was laughing constantly out loud throughout the book and liked it even better than her other book. Ms. Lockwood really brought the characters to life for me and managed to put them in all sorts of situations where I just couldn't help but enjoy. Perhaps not the most realistic of books out there, but that didn't stop me from loving it! Definitely one of the best "summer reads" books out there, or "anytime reads," for that matter. Her writing is sharp and witty, and you can't help but love it. I'd heartily recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book and am looking forward to her next book coming out. Way better than most of those chick lit books out there - this one actually is a keeper, not just a library check out! :)

Summary: Laugh Outloud Funny
Review: I'm not sure about what book some of these other reviewers were reading. As far as I know, there wasn't a reference to Sixteen Candles in "Pink Slip Party," but that's beside the point. The book is funny, and as someone who's been through a layoff, I found it true to life and amusing at the same time. I definitely recommend it!

Summary: Comical contemporary caper
Review: In Lakeview, Illinois, art designer of office supplies like pink slips, Jane McGregor learns by email she is being indefinitely laid off. Jane never saw the pink slip coming because she felt safe as she was dating the Vice President of Midwest Division of Maximum Office Supplies. When she asks why, she is told that her boyfriend Mike Orepheus euphemistically furloughed her and kindly follows that up by ending their relationship.

Jane knows she offers few marketable skills, but needs money rather quickly to pay the rent and to pay of her maxed credit cards. The card debts bother her because she bought a new wardrobe so that Mike would be proud of her. As she struggles with unemployment, her father joins her in the ranks of the unemployed and her brother nags her to look for work. Only family friend Kyle Burton seems to be of any help, but how will Jane react when she learns his secret agenda is that he is in love with her and has been for a long time.

Though at times the lead female's alibis and laments can leave the reader bushed (this reviewer agrees with her sibling), this amusing chick lit tale pokes fun at the economic recovery (except in Illinois not Ohio). The humorous story line is mostly Jane's muses about the woes of her world as she struggles with her bills and the men in her life, not necessarily in that order. Sub-genre fans will say I Do to Cara Lockwood's latest comical contemporary caper.
