Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A great author. Review: Julie Garwood has impressed me with both of the two novels of hers that I've read. "The Wedding" (which should definitely be read after this story, "The Bride!") is a good follow-up.I seem to have a strong liking for Garwood's heroines--they are smart, strong, and believable. That's what I love most of all about them--they aren't the writer's ideal of the "perfect woman" by any means. Jamie is a spit-fire English woman forced to marry Alec Kincaid, a Scottish laird. Both of them were fun characters to get to know, and I especially liked the fact that I didn't spend 200 pages watching these two go back and forth and denying their attraction the whole while. She resists, of course, but with the character Alec, I especially liked that he was sure of his feelings for her early on and he would make her love him. The author did mention that he did not want to "love her" for fear of being hurt, but I sort of ignored that little interuption because his actions said anything but. Jamie's ability to get lost was such a great character flaw to include, making her all the more human, too. It was one of many of Garwood's small character details that makes her book more than the industry standard. I was very impressed and will look into her other books next!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: OUTSTANDING Review: Julie Garwood has outdone herself! The book is incredibly romantic and funny. She is a genious when it comes to providing intrigue and mystery without making you crazy waiting for the point. She gives just enough to keep you interested without making you anxious. Jamie and Alec are perfect! Do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Very good sweet romance. Review: The prologue hooked me, so I bought the book. This is my third Julie Garwood novel, the first having been "RANSOM". I enjoyed THE BRIDE very much. What I liked most was the heroine's loyalty to her family and husband, Beak, the way the clans fell in love with her. What I enjoyed least was the bickering dialogue between Alec & Jamie, the sub-plot was a little thin, I figured out the killer too early based on Jamie's comments, and there were some shallow, confusing scenes that should have been fleshed out a little more.
The fact that Andrew got all those jewels stuck in my craw - the guy shouldn't have received anything. The scene did not have the emotion to me that the author intended. Instead it left me a little ho hum at the end.
Nice relationship between Alec & Jamie, nice heroine, simplistic novel, but it was really enjoyable overall as escapist romantic fiction.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Magnificant! Review: This book is absolutely wonderful! This was my first Garwood book and before I even finished it, I ran out and bought several other titles by Garwood. It is hard to put this book down because Garwood keeps you on the edge of your seat. Each chapter leaves you with that "I need to know what happenes next" feeling. The Bride is one of the best books I have ever read. Great dialogue and lots of conflict. Alec and Jamie's story is a treat from the first page to the last.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Sweet Review: This was a very sweet story. Jamie made me laugh a lot. She stood up to Alec all the time and I thought that was greatness. She was a very strong character.
When Jamie's father "forgot" to pay his taxes the king said two of his daughters would have to marry Scotts. Scottish Laird Alec Kincaid did not want to marry again and he really did not want anything to do with an English woman, but he did what his king asked. He choose her after seeing her and overhearing a conversation she had with her sister and a servant. It is funny, she wore black to her wedding and that is just the beginning to a sweet story.
Alec also made me laugh. He would bait her all the time. It was very funny because of her reactions to it and I guess that is why he did it so much. He is a very good hero. He saves her a couple of times and TEARED UP 2 TIMES!! I mean, here he is a feared and respected laird and he is tearing up because he was scared of losing Jamie. SO SWEET!
This really was a good story the only reason I give it 4 stars is because it wasn't quite as good as some of Julie Garwood's other highland romances and certain parts kind of dragged on. With that said it was still a very good romance. I found myself re-reading some of the things they said to each other because it was sweet.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A good book, but not great. Review: This was my first book by Julie Garwood.
I can see why it is so highly rated by other readers, I would have loved it too if it were one of my first romance books. "The Bride" has all the elements of a good romance book. You get to love the h/h, the story is well written, it's simple, it's nice - and there is a plot - just enough of a plot - to keep you going to the end. But unfortunately, since I read some other books with similar plots first, both done better and written better - such as Judith McNaught, Jude Deveraux - "The Bride" doesn't hold up. Don't get me wrong - there's nothing wrong with the "The Bride" - just that there are other books done better.
If you are looking for a nice, sweet romance, this is the book for you. But if you are a heavy romance reader and are looking for something a little different, this is not it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wow! Review: If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I sure would. From the very beggining when Jamie entered the alter wearing a BLACK wedding dress and Alec Started laughing aloud, I couldn't help but do the same. Alec was one of the most romantic characters I've ever read about.
Julie Garwood is on the top of my list, right beside: Shannon Drake and Teresa Medeiros.
Do yoyr self a favor people and read it!
