Summary: Stick with Eric Dickey regardless of storyline
Review: When I first heard about Between Lovers, I was taken aback by the subject matter, but decided to read the book anyway for its story-telling worthiness. Personally, I thought he did a fine job in telling a complex story, especially since he isn't taking it from his own life, but is actually making it up, becoming the characters, and trying to imagine what it would feel like to be in their shoes. It is bothersome to see how people are dissing this book. If you were to take EJD's name off the cover, would it still be considered so horrible (as a few other readers have indicated)? Why is it that people think just because Eric alters his style a little bit, and writes about something controversial with unlikable characters that his writing is getting worse? I thought his writing was fine. As a matter of fact, Eric's "worst" could be considered another writer's "best", but that's another matter. Think about it! This is his sixth book. If he keeps redoing Cheaters & Friends and Lovers, people will complain that he's formulaic. Yet if he takes a risk, which all serious writers have to do at some point, some of the readers don't like it and wish he'd go back to the style that he's already mastered. If you want the true formulaic type writer, go read a Danielle Steele novel, but if you are willing to hang with someone who seems to enjoy stretching artistically and challenging himself, than stick with Eric Jerome Dickey and allow him the space to create unusual stories and at the same time cultivate his craft.

Summary: DIFFERENT BUT STILL GREAT
Review: To me EJD is still doing what he does best. Telling stories about everyday life. Not all of us are the same and just b/c we can't seem to relate to the characters in the book doesn't mean that his writing style is getting worst. Me personally I couldn't relate to any of the characters in Milk in My Coffee but it was still a decent read. Between Lovers explores a kind of relationship that is foreign to alot of us but there is someone out there that is living this story. Its a great story about the joys and heartache that love can cause. I like the fact that EJD explores all kind of relationships. Milk in My Coffee explored interacial dating, Sister Sister explored female bonds, Friends & Lovers explored betrayal, love, and friendship Cheaters explored what happens when you mess around in a relationship, Liars Game explored betrayal and redemption....all different in some aspect but still great.

Summary: VERY, VERY DISSAPOINTED
Review: I was originally told by one of my reading partners that it was best to borrow the book instead of buying it, but I did not believe her until I purchased it for myself.

By the 5th page, I had to close the book and take a good look at Mr. Dickey's picture on the back. I was so dissapointed to a point where I stated wondering if this is the same person who wrote "Cheaters, Liars Game ect..)

The book did not doing anythig for me or my friends who read it. Being a dedicated fan who have read all of Mr. Dickey's previous books, I sincerely hope this style of writing is not something permanent in terms of his fiction skills.

Summary: Turn on your answering machine!!!!
Review: This is one of those books where you'd rather not be disturbed until you've finished reading from beginning to end! I barely wanted to sleep let alone eat til I was at the last page! Erotic, sensual, witty, thought provoking and charged from the jump! Great writing!

Summary: Bought it! Read it! LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Easy to read, couldn't put it down. The endings in EJD's books are always a suprise and everything is brought full circle. I especially liked how he mentions character's from Milk in My Coffee (Kimberly Chavers) and from Cheaters (Toyomi). The minute you see those names (if you have read the other books), it makes you think back to those books and the trials and tribulations those characters went through. The male character in the book is not a whimp as one reviewer mentioned, it took a lot of courage and strength to endure what he did and to let go in his own time, not when people felt he should. Can't live your life for others, you have to live for yourself and be true to yourself. For the reader's who didn't appreciate the book because it wasn't what they expected........ well, just remember everyone changes and grows in many aspects. Books are intended to broaden your minds (fiction or not)and to touch a variety of people. Let me get off my soap box. BUY IT! READ IT!

Summary: Different....but good!
Review: I am a big EJD fan! Recently I had the opportunity to sit in on one of his book signings. He made reference to some of the comments posted here. So I thought I'd come and check them out for myself. I felt some of the comments made were a little harsh. True, this storyline is different from some of his other books. However, I found it to be entertaining (which is what fiction is meant to do, entertain), and an easy read. I even encouraged a male friend to read it and we were able to have a thought provoking conversations as result. The story was written in a way that made you feel like you were actually there. Anytime a author brings you into the story...he/she has done his/her job. I would suggest you read the book for yourself and come to your own conclusions.

Review: I enjoyed this book. Even though its very different from other books by Eric Jerome Dickey. I welcomed the change in his style and the book was still worth reading. Keep writing and I will keep buying.

Summary: reader in awe!!!
Review: I have read all of Eric Jerome Dickeys books and I have to say that he is definetly one of the greatest. One of the things that I love is that he brings other characters from the other books into the scene. That is pure uniqueness!! This book is definetly great not as great as milk in my coffee, but equally great with characters, he really brings the characters out, after I read a book I actually feel that I know the characters or can some how relate to them. Between Lovers, makes you want to hate Nicole the lover that can't make up her mind, but you can't for some reason. She seems lost, and the nameless main character is trying to find her, and ayanna the other lover thinks that she knows Nicole through and through, when in the end i think she did. But all is well in the end with all characters, everyone ends up happy.

Summary: Just Not The Same
Review: I must say I was greatly surprised by this book. I've read every one of Mr. Dickey's previous books and put my money in this one. I just didn't like it. As usual, his characters were deep and the dialogue on the money but I just couldn't root for anyone in this unholy triumvirate. I honestly feel that he wanted his public to explore a world not often ventured into but I felt that I could have done without going there. Nicole was selfish, our "hero" pathetic in some ways and the other woman(I forget her name) was just too difficult. Nice try Eric but no cigar this time

Summary: Between Lovers
Review: I read three reviews posted on this site before reading the book for myself. The three individuals were disappointed with the book. One person felt the book was unrealistic, because a black man would never share his woman with anyone. Someone also stated they were confused about who was saying what because of the narrative. I read the book. It was very easy to follow and the story line was also very believable. I like the fact that the male character was nameless, but also very important to the book. I believe love will let people do things they would normally not do. I also believe in society we have men out there who will fight for their woman, if the competition is another woman, because they truly believe that there is no competition when the other person is female. I enjoyed the story line and also enjoyed how each character had to take a close look at his or her self. I really enjoyed the fact that they could not escape their reality. It was nice to see how everyone had to open up,tell the truth and face the truth no matter how painful. You did a good job with this book. I look forward to reading more of your books where you share your perspective on the male point of view in relationships. Continue to write books for us by us.
