Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: The book is excellent! Julia pulls off another great book! If you want a book to enjoy while escaping your every day life, this is it. It's witty and entertaining and full of laughs. Great work JQ!
Rating: Summary: An Offer from a Gentleman. Review: This book was awesome, I finished it in one day! It is witty, fun and sexy! a great read! I recommend any of Julia Quinn's books, every one I have read has been wonderful and this one is no different. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: a bit off Review: I really like Julia Quinn, and I was so excited to read this book. After the wonderful "The viscount Who Loved Me" I was sure I would love this one. However, I found myself slightly disappointed. The hero was a bit dull. Quinn touched on something deep and interesting when the heroine discovers his sketches, but doesn't go deeper. If Quinn had fully formed Anthony, I might have liked him better. Also, it took much too long for Anthony to discover her true identity. Usually Quinn's books are filled with balls and such, but this book only had one or two. Their isolation from society was a disappointment, because we never get to see her "come out."However, Quinn fans should still read it. There is a scene with Colin and Penelope Featherton(?) that is priceless. It was by far the most interesting scene. Hopefully that is the next story and it will be better.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but... Review: Julie Quinn is one of those authors I pick up without hesitation. This book was fun reading while on the StairMaster but not up to her usual quality. Since it mirrors Cinderella (and JQ does a good job retelling an old story) saying the book was predictable would be redundant and unfair. But, the first two books of this series were fast paced with strong characters. Either the Bridgertons have become predictable or this book was written in haste. It lacked the spark I have come to expect from a Julia Quinn book. Unfortunately, this happens far too often when authors become popular and start churning out their books every three months. One more book like this and I'll have to go back to being selective before buying Julia Quinn's work. If you want a quick read that isn't going to distract you from anything else, this book will fit that bill.
Rating: Summary: Great retelling of the Cinderella story Review: Sophie Beckett is a gentleman's ..., but is given a better life when her father takes her in, though he never acknowledges her. Enter a wicked stepmother and two stepsisters and you have a Cinderella story in the making. Sophie is given one perfect night by her servant friends, and meets Benedict Bridgerton at a ball. They connect, they kiss... all is right with the world. But then stepmother finds out, all hell breaks loose and our fairytale couple are torn apart. Years later, Sophie is a servant and is saved by Benedict, who doesn't recognize her. Can Benedict forget his dream woman and find love with Sophie again? Or will Sophie succeed in pushing him away once and for all. This is another JQ classic. Though I didn't think I'd like this retelling of the Cinderella story, Sophie is charming, Benedict is wonderful and the story sings with great lines and true emotion. Terrific!
Rating: Summary: Definitely not up to JQ's par! Review: Really loved the two previous Bridgerton books, especially THE VISCOUNT WHO LOVED ME. I truly expected to love this newest book as well, but it just didn't seem to capture my heart as the other two did mainly because Benedict's character never really developed, I never felt that closeness to his character that I did with Simon and Anthony. By the time I read THE VISCOUNT WHO LOVED ME I already felt a kinship with Anthony and his brother Colin, but not with Benedict. The sad part is I didn't feel any differently about Benedict when I read his book. Also, I didn't quite buy the ending. It seemed rushed and contrived, just too convenient. I hope I don't sound too harsh, but I had to be honest in my review. This is a good book, just not a great one. The one spark of interest I got from this book is with Colin and Penelope. I was so happy to see how she stood up to him and look forward to reading about them in JQ's next Bridgerton book coming out in Summer 2002. .
Rating: Summary: Bridgerton Family - the magic continues!!! Review: What a pleasure to be envolved by the Bridgerton Family again!!! Julia Quinn is brilliant!!! Among so many Regency novels she continues to deliver funny, tender and sparkling stories. From her enigmatic epilogue in An Offer from a Gentleman, and after teasing us for three novels with the prospect of Colin's story, I sincerely hope she doesn't change her mind. Penelope Featherington was always one of my favorite characters and I think she deserves an active role!! Maybe Ms Quinn can also bring the Smith-Smythe girls back!!!
Rating: Summary: Clumsy take on Cinderella Review: I love Julia Quinn books so that's why I may be harsh in my judgment on this book. It took forever to move along and could have used lots of editing. I ended up skipping chunks of pages hoping things would move along later in the book. In the end, I must have skipped a third of the book and regretted spending...on it.
Rating: Summary: A Regency Cinderella Review: Quinn brings back the beloved Bridgerton family from previous books with _An Offer From a Gentleman_. Yet again, I thoroughly enjoyed one of Julia Quinn's books. Quinn takes a turn on the traditional story of Cinderella, having a glove instead of a shoe left behind. Benedict (or Bridgerton #2) plays the role of Prince Charming, searching for his elusive "Cinderella", never knowing that it is the maid he has right in front of him. Of course, there are cameos of Daphne from _The Duke and I_ and Anthony from _The Viscount Who Loved Me_. I enjoyed the fairy tale take and I hope to see more from Quinn soon!
Rating: Summary: Cinderella with a new a plot & sensual twist! Review: When Sophie Beckett is offered the opportunity to sneak into the very same masquerade ball her stepmother and two stepsisters are attending, she arrives decked out in a beautiful, glittering gown that belonged to her fathers mother with matching demi-mask. She not only has to keep her identity hidden from the stepmother that hates her but, also from the handsome Benedict Bridgerton who immediately succumes to her charms even though he doesn't know who she is or what she looks like. Even though she feels a strange magical pull of her heart with her handsome dance partner, she knows she has to leave by midnight. She flees, leaving Benedict to spend months searching for the spectacular beauty that has woven a spell around him as no other woman has. Circumstances eventually bring Sophie and Benedict together once again. She has the benefit of knowing who he is and wonders at the effect he still has on her. He doesn't know that the servant he ends up rescuing from a dire situation is the woman he has spent the last several years dreaming about. Ones pulse would seem to throb and the heart clip at a rather fast rate when these two are together on the same page of the book; their chemistry is that hot! Sophie and Benedict are a delightful couple and I hope that Ms. Quinn finds a place for them in a future book. I haven't read the other books in this series but, I'm hoping they're as spell-binding as AN OFFER FROM A GENTLEMAN has been.
