Summary: Intelligent and funny characters
Review: This book is intelligent, funny, and sensual. The main characters really make this novel a success. They are refreshingly unique. It's good to see a normal sized woman be the heroine. The hero actually appreciates and loves her figure! I was a bit surprised by this novel's lack of a villian or a mystery. It seems the author decided to stray almost completely from the usual historical romance formula. Though the lack of danger did leave an occasional lull, I still thought this was an excellent book. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Lisa Kleypas.

Summary: Read it!
Review: I liked this one a lot. Like many other reviewers, I have read some of this author's previous books. I have to say that I find Kleypas's work to be improving--not getting flat at all if this book is any indication! The characters are intelligent, the plot is innovative, and the romance is engaging without ever becoming sappy. I will say, though, that the sex scenes are NOT for the faint of heart. I think Kleypas might just have broken new ground in that department, adding a few tricks I have never read before in a romance novel!

Summary: Fast paced Victorian read.
Review: Amanda Briars is still a virgin, and her thirtieth birthday is rapidly approaching. So Amanda, a popular author, does the unthinkable-- she goes to a madam and hires a man so that she will know physical love at least once. When sexy Jack comes to her door, she assumes he is the man for hire. She tries to send him away, but he gives her a little pleasure before he leaves.... Not long after this, Amanda meets Jack at a party and finds out, to her horror, that Jack is really John T. Devlin, publishing mogul and purveyor of scandalous literature. Amanda thinks he's a repulsive person, but Jack has just acquired Amanda's unpublished first novel. He wishes to publish it, but it requires editingShe feels she is dealing with the devil but agrees to the contract. Her passions get the better of her, too, and they begin an affair. This is a fast-flying novel with snappy dialogue, a most sympathetic heroine, and blazing, often unusual love scenes. A delightful and fun read!

Summary: Unrealisitic plot
Review: The sexy cover in pink and red sold me on this book. Now I wish I had taken the time to read the back cover.

That a woman "who craves respectability" would hire a male prostitute is unthinkable today much less in pre-Victorian England. Also, I was bothered by the fact that the lead character Amanda Briers is a "well-known" novelist. At this time in England, respectable women hid their true names when publishing--ever heard of Currer Bell? That was the pseudonym Charlotte Bronte used. Most of the other historical references are acceptable but some seemed very forced in their use as though the author wants you to know she did her homework.

The two stars are awarded for the deliciously randy Jack Devlin, who still manages to be very guarded in who he sleeps with.

Anyone wanting a realistic story will be very disappointed here. I actually felt insulted that as a reader it was believed I would be dumb enough to swallow this plot. This was my first novel by this author and it may be my last.

Summary: A FUN READ
Review: This was a fun read. I loved Amanda and Jack. I am so happy that authors are making their heroines older and wiser. I get so tired of reading of some 18 year old, marrying a 35 year old man. Please!! If most readers are like me, and I think that they are, we are long past being 18 years old and appreciate having a heroine that is someone we can relate to. Amanda is witty, charming,self-sufficient and not willowy (THANK GOD). Jake is self made, handsome and charming. He also sees in Amanda who he can talk to, not just make love with. That is a wonderful thing in a hero. Bravo Ms. Kleypas for your charming story with believable protagonists.

Summary: Couldn't put it down!!!!!!!
Review: This was one of the best romance books I've read in a long time. Finally, something different. I loved the characters and the story. I definately recommend it.

Summary: This made the best seller list?
Review: Apparently Ms. Kleypas has a large following, but I do not understand why. I found the book boring. The characters were not well developed, the plot was paper-thin, and there was only enough story to hold together rather trashy sex scenes. Anyone who enjoys the well crafted stories of Madeline Hunter, Susan King or Mary Jo Putney should pass this one by!.

Summary: disappointing
Review: I loved the initial premise of this book, but toward the end, it dissolved into cliche. I really thought I'd found something new in the romance genre, but alas, it's not this. My first Kleypas, my last Kleypas.

Summary: A Sensual Delight
Review: This book is a true delight. I read it in a day, I could not put it down. It is refreshing to read a historical novel of this period and not have at least on of the characters be part of the aristocracy. I glad to find out that the high middle class and rich merchants, also had fun and balls and maybe more fun than the stuffy aristrocacy. Thank you Ms. Kleypas for this different point of view. Devlin was a delight. I fell in love with him from the beginning. I recommend this novel highly.

Summary: NOT A KEEPER....
Review: I generally enjoy Kleypas' work, but I thought that her last two books were very flat. In "Suddenly You" the sex scenes were steamy, but the characters were so flat and the storyline was so bland that I didn't have a whole lot of interest in finishing the book. The chubby heroine and her fairly younger man theme got quite tiresome. The last books that I did enjoy from Kleypas was "Dreaming of You" and "Someone To Watch Over Me." You can save your money and take a pass on this book.
