Summary: A Keeper
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought Jack was the ultimate (but unmistakably modern) hero. Amanda was a joy. The plot was refreshing and held my interest til the last page.

Review: This is my 1st Lisa Kleypas book. And it won't be my last.
Amanda Briars is popular writer and very respected in the social circles. She is a spinster and a virgin, so for her 30th birthday, she decides to make a present to herself that will take care of certain things...like her virginity. She hires a male prostitute, that she has never seen. That's why a handsome to boot man shows up in her door the night of her birthday, she naturally assumes that he is the man she was waiting for.
Jack Devlin owns one of the biggest publishers and has been dyign to sign Amanda to his publisher. So he decides to show up to her door and try to convince her to work for him, since soemhow he managed to get a copy of her 1st book, that she sold a while ago, but was never published.
As their conversation keeps going, Jack finally understands what Amanda did, and who she thinks he is, so he plays along.
She never discovers who he is, until they are introduced at a party. And that's when all hell breaks loose.
Their attarction is undeniable and eventually they decide to have an affair for a certain period of time. However things start to complicate, and rumors start flying. And Amanda starts fearing what might happen if it's known that she is having an affair with the infamous Jack Devlin.
Jack holds a secret that is heartbreaking, and this does not allow him to feel secure with wanting a family and a wife.
The plot thickens as a 3rd character becomes more involved and a little something also happens.
The book was funny and sweet and sad. It was definitely worth it and I think it was very refreshing and original.
Definitely reccomend it.

Summary: JACK BURNS UP THE PAGES!
Review: Do you love strong leading men who are so bad they are really GOOD? Does the hero make or break the story for you? If you need the hero to be trully fabulous...sexy and intense, ruthless and agressive, hard and cynical, with a dash of boyish charm and humor (to make him trully lovable), then you need to meet Jack Devlin. He's the perfect leading man to curl your toes. Lisa Kleypas out did herself with Jack. My hat goes off to her.

But make no mistake, our leading lady is no slouch either. Are you sick of the leading lady who is irrational, in a misplaced effort at passion, and weepy for no good reason? Good. You won't get that type of behavior from our very sensible Amanda Briars. She is strong, solid and realist but still tender and sexy in the best possible way.

I personally am sick to death of romances where the characters hate each other until 5 pages before the end and then are miraculously in love. Or those romances where its basically erotica with no relationship . . . . and they live happily ever after. Yeah right! This book does not fall into any of the romance novel pitfalls that so many others do. I have probably read hundreds of romance novels over the years. This one has made the greatest hits list. I read romance because I crave my happily ever after but I want the trip getting there to be worth while. You'll get that with this book.

This was the 1st book I'd ever had the good fortune to read by Lisa Kleypas. Since this book, I've read everything she's got in print. If you are sick of reading romance after romance that is so formulaic you have to keep checking the covers to see if you are reading the same book over and over again, this is the author for you. Say goodbye to stories centered on disagreements created by a ridiculous lack of communication. Instead, say hello to Jack and Amanda, and Lisa Kleypas, who will liberate you from that trap, at least for a little while.

Summary: I was sorely disappointed
Review: I wish someone would define sensual for me. Inserting raspberries and back door action doesn't really do it for me nor for a lot of other readers, I suspect.

Apart from that there is not much sizzle in the book at all, and his consummation of their relationship in a carriage is not the least romantic. The only thing that as improved is the sex is finally consensual in the book; often in a Kleypas novel it isn't.

Amanda is a twit-she lets' herself be talked out of her relationship and neither of them seem to c are enough about he other to fight for each other. She fully intends to marry another and them being forced to marry just does not convince us they will live happily ever after. For two people who inhabit the world of words they say very little to one another and can't ever admit their feelings.

They are both emotionally shallow and cowards even though they have no great depth of emotion for each other anyway. Another unmemorable novel which would have done better as a really intense short story than a long-winded narrative.

Review: It was great! How many books out there are about a younger man and an older woman? That in itself sets this book by Lisa Kleypas above others!

Summary: Another Winner from Kleypas!!!
Review: This is one of my favorites from Lisa Kleypas. I think its excellent because the heroine, Amanda, is not at all typical....and Jack is seriously sexy. This was my very first historical romance that I ever read..it roped me in with it's fast pace and steamy lovescenes. I would definitely recommend giving this one a try...you wont be disappointed!!!!

Summary: The realistic fariytail
Review: I have recently fallen in love with the romance novel section of the bookstore. Of all of the books I have read, this one is the best. The story fuses together pragmatic social sense and perfect love to make a wildly romantic storyline. I am currently looking for this book in hardcover because I enjoyed it so much. i highly recomend this book.
