Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A lot of potential, but is a little rough around the edges Review: This was the very first Kleypas book I've read. From the earlier reviews, it was suggested that I try reading her earlier books *first*, and well, to not be disappointed either way, I bought this book along with "Then Came You" and "Dreaming of You". I started with this book so my hopes wouldn't be too high but yet be introduced to her writing. From the short introduction excerpt, I was intrigued. The plot isn't quite original, but I liked where Ms. Kleypas was going with it. However upon reading, I felt although there was a lot of chemistry between the characters... but they still felt a little under-developed. Yet, I immensely enjoyed the humorous passages which gave the story a nice well-rounded feel. I laughed, I cried, I sympathized. I don't feel like I was let down at all by this book. It was a good introduction to her books, but I highly recommend others to read her older books if they do enjoy these more recent books. I'm happy to admit that I am now collecting more of Ms. Kleypas' books and look forward to reading more of her works!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Lacks substance... Review: Amanda, an author, decides to lose her virginity for her 30th birthday. Jack, a publisher, shows up at her house, on the fateful evening. Their encounter will pull them into a relationship, one that will be sexual, as well as professional. I would be inclined to say, that the above paragraph sums up SUDDENLY YOU's plot or story. As Jack and Amanda become closer, their relationship will become more heated. Both characters are very likeable. But, a book about sexual encounters between nice characters, just doesn't have enough substance, for me. And, Jack's big secret at the end of the book, is almost too silly to include. Especially, since there are big hints throughout the book, about his secret. Romance light, Kleypas light, in this circumstance, just makes me miss the Kleypas style of some of her earlier books. She's always been a favorite author, but, if this book indicates her future writings... I could have given this book just one star, but I have liked this author, alot, in the past. And, Jack and Amanda seemed like very nice people...

I read it outside by the pool and I could not put the book down. If you are looking for a book to bring you to another world THIS IS THE ONE. It is my favorite book and it is unfortunatley coming apart because i take it everywhere. I have looked for book of similar content and have read Kleypas' other works but this is definetley her best. HEr knowledge of the Victorian era and behaviour is exceedingly interesting. And you cant put the dang thing down. I sincerly recommened this book and dam anyone who thinks otherwise. And im dying to know when her next work will be published. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK KLEYPAS!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A hero who's sexy and powerful without being rude! Review: While SUDDENLY YOU starts out with a real bang, one that can't help but reel you in, you'll keep reading it because Lisa Kleypas has crafted a wonderful, enticing hero in Jack Devlin. He's intelligent, has a haunting past, and has overcome innumerable obstacles in life. However, unlike the heroes of many historical romances, he's attracted to a woman with intelligence--and isn't afraid to let the world know it. He's polite, understanding of the predicament of women in 1826 London, and yet he's incredibly sexy and powerful at the same time. If you like dark and brooding heroes, but are sick of the same-old, same-old rudeness they often display before being 'changed' by the heroine, this is the book for you. And if you're a fan of incredibly hot sex scenes, you'll devour SUDDENLY YOU with relish. You'll undoubtedly go looking for Lisa Kleypas' backlist once you've finished SUDDENLY YOU. I can also highly recommend ONLY WITH YOUR LOVE, a book set in Louisiana during the heydey of plantations. It has a bit more conflict and a richer storyline than SUDDENLY YOU, but with equally powerful characters. I'm sure Ms. Kleypas' career will continue to boom--with good reason!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Another hit for Kleypas!!!! Review: Just a wonderful little book, with a hero to die for AND a heroine who's smart, funny and independent. Ms Kleypas makes us care about these two, and their romance is such fun! Jack is tall, dark and handsome, with a tortured past like so many romance heroes, but he LIKES Amanda from the start and never treats her badly. I found him charming, sexy and wish he lived around here! Amanda is a woman I'd like, too. She's a writer, a good one, has been on her own for a while, and yet she has the same vulnerabilities many of us have. She's insecure about her looks and desirability, has perpetually cold feet and hands, and has trouble dealing with the big 30. Get this book! It's a keeper for me.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A great way to meet an author! Review: This was the first novel of Kleypas's that I read and I was instnatly hooked. The novel begins with a unique premise: a woman on the verge of her "spinster birthday" ordering a male "companion" for the evening. While Jack's character is fairly typical to romance novels (tall, dark and brooding), he retains a measure of vulnerability that is a wonderful addition. Amanda is a brilliant foil to Jack's character and the two of them have an entertaining courtship. Highly recommended!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: An uncommon love story Review: Though Amanda Briars is comfortable in her spinster life as a writer, her upcoming thirtieth birthday is a scary one. After all, she's never been touched and will probably never marry. Deciding to give herself a gift, she hires a man for a night of passion When Jack Devlin shows up at her door, she assumes he is her gift and they share an incredible night. In the cold light of morning, she realizes that not only is this man not a hired prostitute, but one of London's most influential publishers. And he wants her... professionally, personally, and more. Lisa Kleypas manages to make the romance between Amanda and Jack a touching one, as well as one that will leave your toes curling with the heat between them. Though Amanda is humiliated by the night she shared with the man who wants to have her as a writer (and more), she still maintains a professional facade. I loved how their relationship wasn't based on the night they shared alone. Jack is likeable and well-developed. My only complaint is that Amanda's life isn't explored more.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Another Winner for Lisa Kleypas Review: Lisa Kleypas' new book, Suddenly You, delievers a face-paced, witty story with a strong independent heroine and a hero who isn't afraid of her intelligence or success. One of the great things about Kleypas' writing is that her books are not retreads of the same idea over and over again. Suddenly You opens---with of all things---the heroine, novelist Amanda Briars, trying to hire a prostitute as a gift to herself on her 30th birthday. Because of a matchmaking madame, her new publisher, Jack Devlin, arrives at the appointed hour. Despite his less than sterling reputation, Devlin is truly a gentleman and doesn't take (much) advanatage of the situation. The two begin a friendship and professional relationship that becomes much more. The dialog is frist-rate, the secondary characters charming, and the passion begins in the first few chapters and doesn't stop. Although there are some misunderstandings between the lovers, this aspect of the story isn't drawn out or senseless as in some other books. Moreover, Amanda is beautiful but not rail thin, a model or clingy. Jack is rough around the edges, not perfect, but is strong in that he views Amanda as his equal (and more but that would ruin the ending). If you are a long-time fan of Kleypas, your wait is over and the book doesn't disappoint. If you have never read a Kleypas before, this book is a great place to start and should be followed by her earlier works like Someone to Watch Over Me and Stranger in My Arms. A historical romance with modern themes. Another winner for Kleypas--and readers.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Fantastic! Review: Amanda Briars is about to turn 30. She gets herself an unusual birthday gift--a man. She has decided to buy herself a man for the night of her birthday. She falls under the spell of the man that shows up only to find out later that he is Jack Devlin--a very successful publisher who wants her working for him! Amanda is faced with the decision of whether or not to work for the man she despises yet is attracted to. Suddenly You is a fantastic read. It has very likable characters in it who aren't the usual rich nobility of London. The characters in this book are authors and publishers and the like. The story moves along at a nice fast pace leaving the reader no time at all to become bored. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this book. This was my first book by this author but I'm sure not the last. This is a great book that could possibly be read in one setting--it is that good and that enjoyable. A very pleasurable read to be read again and again.
