Rating: Summary: A Real Hero Review: Finally, I hero that I can really sink my teeth in to.I felt like I was able to get in to Anthony Bridgerton's head. He was real. This was not another one sided female's perspective glance at romance and love. Not that I didn't love Kate as well... This one is definitely worth the purchase!
Rating: Summary: Would give it 6 starts if possible! Review: This was the second JQ book that I had read, the first being THE DUKE AND I. After reading this book I went on to read her newest book, AN OFFER FROM A GENTLEMAN. Of the three, this is my absolute favorite. I haven't been reading romance a long time, so I don't know if this book is following a "formula" or not as someone else's review noted. I can only judge it on its own merit and therefore I say that it is wonderful. I really identified with Kate and was happy to see that her beautiful sister Edwina wasn't portrayed as a monster. When Kate and Anthony finally get together on their wedding night I had heart palpatations. I had been rooting for them since the beginning and was so happy that they married. The scene where he tells her how much he desires her made me melt! I truly enjoyed this book and it is definitely in my keeper pile.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL!! Review: This has got to be one of the best books I have ever read...and I have read a LOT of books. The characters in this book are smart and witty and the complete opposite of boring. I tell you, Julia Quinn is wonderful!! Even the secondary characters light up each page. This is not your regular historical romance, it is something entirely in its own characterization. I have never read a book that has made me laugh out loud like this one. And I NEVER laugh out loud at books. Smile, sure, but laugh? Never. Until now. Kate is bound and determined to make sure her younger half sister Edwina marries someone that deserves her. Edwina is smart and funny and has the biggest heart, and Kate must monitor all those that court her sister. Anthony is a rake, and he decides it is time to get married and have a family...with someone smart, beautiful, and someone he is sure he will never love. So, when he hears of Edwina, he decides already to court and marry her....but Kate says over her dead body. Even Anthony has a charming brother named Colin whom I would LOVE to read more about, and a wonderful high spirited sister named Daphne. No evil people in this book out to get them, no murder or mayhem...just undeniable attraction and unlikely love matches. The cover of this book makes it sound like Kate is out and ready to steal Edwina's love. But please know, that is NOT at all how it is. Very far from it actually. Just a splendid book with splendid characters and I was sad to see it come to an end. READ THIS!! You MUST!!
Rating: Summary: I LOVED THE VISCOUNT! Review: This was my first Julia Quinn book, and I have to say I was enchanted. FUNNY! I'm talking laugh-out-loud funny. A love story with seduction (love the seduction), humor and, of course, a happy ending. Contrary to DISAPPOINTED! in Martinsburg, PA USA, I do not think Ms. Quinn is resorting to Amanda Quick's formula style (agree TOTALLY with you as far as AQ goes). I read "The Duke and I" right after Viscount and, yes, there are certain similarities, but let's face it. . .in regency love stories (or any love story) you have hero, heroine, conflict, happy ending. However, Ms. Quinn's route to that happy ending is delightful. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think it deserves a five star rating ("The Duke and I" gets a four). It's a keeper.
Rating: Summary: YOU'LL LOVE THE VISCOUNT, TOO Review: What a delight! This is the first Julia Quinn book I've read, but I have already ordered another. You'll laugh (out loud), swoon, cry, etc. Well drawn characters, just enough conflict and a satisfying conclusion. This one is a keeper.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing and Formulaic Review: This was my fifth Julia Quinn book. I usually enjoy her humorous situations and dialogue and I liked the previous book in this series (The Duke and I). But frankly, if you've read The Duke and I, you've read this book. The heroines are both plucky and supposedly somewhat "plain." The heroes both have committment issues stemming from their relationships with their fathers. The couples meet cute. They are discovered in a compromising position and forced to marry. The heroes turn away from their wives because of their "issues" and then realize their "issues" weren't really "issues" after all, come to their senses and go back to their wives. They live happily ever after. Ms. Quinn has talent. Her writing is light and humorous and can actually make you laugh out loud at times. This book is a very easy read and you can get most of the way through it before you realize just how familiar it all is. I hope that for the next book in this series Ms. Quinn abandons the pop psychology and finds a new plot that revolves around genuine feeling and character development instead of some contrived, underdeveloped childhood trauma that the hero has to conquer before he can be happy.
Rating: Summary: absolutly wonderful Review: This book was absolutly wonderful!!! Julia Quinn did a wonderful job at presenting all of the aspects to making a great book. It begins with a young Anthony being told that the father that he adores has been killed by a bee. Anythony is totally devastated and is certain that the same fate will occur to him when he turns 39. He goes through his entire life, living like a rake until he turns 29 and then he deciedes to marry so that he can have an heir when he passes on in 10 years. But he absolutly refuses to love his wife. It doesn't take him long to choose a wife and it just so happens to be the beautiful sister, Edwina, of the heroine of the story, Kate. Alas Edwina has decieded that she will only marry the sutior that her sister, Kate, accepts. So all of Edwina's sutiors start complimenting Kate trying to win her favor. But everyone can see the Kate is no match for Edwina's beauty. Anthony tries to woo Kate also but her wit stops him quit and he finds that it's much more fun to argue with Kate then try to get him in her good graces. Little does he know that Kate is forming a little tendre for him. Then Anthony's mother throws a country house party together which in the end results in the betrothel of the Anthony and Kate. But he still refuses to love her even though it seems obvious to the reader that he does love her (but you know how men can be!). Over all this was a great book and I highly reccomend it for everyone! I absolutly loved how Julia Quinn used the secret author of the newspaper throughout the book. Very clever! And funny too! The one thing that will always stick out in my mind is how well Miss. Quinn wrote about Kate learning about her mother died and Anthony telling Kate about his father. VERY POWERFUL! It made this reader misty eyed!
Rating: Summary: A Light and Humorous Read! Review: The second book in the Bridgerton series, "The Viscount Who Loved Me" tells the story of Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sheffield. Anthony had always belived that he would not live beyond the age of 39. His beloved father had died at this age, killed by a mere bee sting. He adored his father so much that he thought that he would never be as good as his father in anything, even living beyond the age of 39. As Anthony was the eldest son, he had to fulfil his job of producing heirs to carry on the Bridgerton line. So, in that particular season, he picked out Edwina Sheffield, who was the best choice, with good looks and great personality, the best candidate to be a viscountess. The thing was courting Edwina was not the easiest task because with her was her meddlesome elder stepsister, who wanted to ensure that Edwina marry well. And marrying well did not include marrying a rake, especially Anthony Bridgerton, who is the greatest rake of all! However, the constant bickering of the these two characters (Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sheffield) had become the reason that made them aware that they were attract to each other after all! The beginning and ending of the book are a bit difficult to get through. The story really begins from the part when there was a party at the Bridgerton country residence. This story is a pretty fun read, light and humorous, as is the way of Julia Quinn's other books. Quite enjoyable!
Rating: Summary: hated it... Review: I really did not like this book. I am amazed at so many reviewers who thought this book was the best ever. It was sooooo formula driven. We have our hero, Anthony, who must marry before he is 39. He thinks he will die at 39, some family thing or another. He decides on the most beautiful girl in the ton, Kate. Kate, though, presents all her possible suitors to her homely, smart older sister, Edwina. Edwina, who rejects Anthony for her sister because he is a rake, ends up marrying him. Oh, they were compromised. Do romance authors feel that must amuse or sooth their readers by making plain women romantic leads? They are always too smart and clever and "pluky" for their own good. Why, in reality, would Edwina reject Anthony for her sister? He was the catch of the ton, good-looking, rich, a tad rakish, but every regency is happy to tell the reader that they make the best husbands. It was boring, boring, boring, boring...
Rating: Summary: Another great JQ favorite! Review: Anthony Bridgerton knows he's going to die before he's thirty-nine. That's only nine years to marry and produce the heirs who will carry on his family name, so he decides to marry. He chooses a "diamond of the first water", Edwina Sheffield. Unfortunately, Edwina's older sister Kate is deadset against her beloved sister marrying any kind of rake... reformed or no. So Anthony sets out to change her mind... and finds himself becoming more and more attracted to her. WOW! I keep thinking that JQ can't get any better, then she does. Fans of Quinn will remember Anthony from THE DUKE AND I (another of my five star favorites!). In this book we see why he's so protective and how he finds the woman who is his match in every way. Kate is funny and strong, while Anthony is the delicate balance of an emotional and sexy hero (just like Simon in DUKE). Excellent and FAST read.
