Rating: Summary: I LOVED THIS ONE Review: Anthony Bridgerton, the head of the family has decided to marry. And of course, the only girl good enough has to be the toast of the Season,Edwina. However, one thing stands in his way-the girl's spinster sister, Kate, is determined to stop this marriage because she feels Anthony is a rake.Of all Quinn's books, this was the most well written. The courtship scenes and Kate's attempted interference are very amusing. During this time, Anthony sees more than just a spinster older sister (Kate), but a woman he connects with and finds attractive. However, he fights his feelings at every turn. How can he lower his expectations and marry a spinster? Kate in turn realizes Anthony is much deeper than she ever imagined, but feels is out of her reach. Their falling in love is slower paced, but believable. I think readers need to be patient and realize this is not a love at first sight book, but a love that grows slowly. I especially loved the croquet game. This novel is a winner. And the delightful Lady Whistledowne always makes things interesting!
Rating: Summary: A little flat, a little boring Review: I was a little disappointed by the story--it started interestingly, but petered out at the end. The climax was anti-climactic, and both Anthony's and Kate's troubles seem a little fake. The characters were hollow, and the language was too modern-day...
Rating: Summary: Just Mediocre Review: After reading a couple of novels in this series (not in the right order), I'm sorry to say that this was a disappointment. Anthony and Kate are boring characters. He's almost too much of a gentleman and she's too much of a lady. Also, the conflict between the two wasn't real enough to make it an actual conflict. Yes, I know that each has his/her own private demons, but that really has little to do with their romance and seems contrived to simply give the story a little more "umph"! It doesn't succeed. I'm actually writing this review before finishing the entire book (I have about 20 or so pages to go), but I have absolutely no desire to finish it because at this point, the romance is already resolved and the only other thing to resolve is Anthony's problem. It's not enough to make me keep reading. My advice (even for Quinn fans): skip this one.
Rating: Summary: I love this one the most Review: Unlike other reviewers, I would say that this installment is the most favorite of mine (followed by 'Romancing Mr. Bridgerton', 'The Duke and I' and 'An offer from a Gentleman'). Anthony and Kate are very charming and it made sense to me why they fall in love. Their chemistry is just right !!! (In 'the Duke and I', I always wonder if there's anything called 'chemistry' between Simon and Daphny, but I still love it anyway, well especially after they got married and they go through their problems). I really like the way Anthony cannot help himself but falling in love with Kate. I don't know but JQ did a great job to convince me that Kate is the one and only for Anthony (and I guess Anthony also is the same of opinion :). I think it's very important that romance writers must be able to convince us how the hero and heroine fall in love, why they suit each other, why it must be her/him and not others. Some other romance writers do not have the ability to point this out and we, romance readers, more often than not, take it for granted that they are hero and heroine so that they must fall in love. I think this is the whole point of reading romance novels.(This is also why I love 'Romancing Mr. Bridgerton so much because it shows why there is only Penelope for Colin and Colin for Penelope).
Rating: Summary: You have to read this! Review: Oh! What a delightful read! I adore Julia Quinn's work..her Bridgerton series in particular, and while I love all of them...this is definitely thee best of the bunch. Kate and Anthony are great together...and some of the situations that Kate gets herself into will have you laughing out loud...it's it's almost as if you can FEEL her embarassment. This is really a lovely book...I recommend it highly...Read all of the Bridgertons!
Rating: Summary: Just Perfect Review: This book is very funny and amusing. I read it over and over again and I never got bored. Anthony Bridgerton is a perfect hero. He's handsome, a rake, but the most important thing is his love for his family. Another thing that I like from this book is the heroine. She's not perfectly gorgeous.. and I really appreciate Ms. Quinn for creating a heroine that is not perfect in appearance, but perfect in mind and intelligent. I really loved the story line, where Anthony, who at first is interested with Kate's sister, finally realised (after a lot of accidents) that he loves and wants Kate instead. And to him, she's beautiful and perfect... how much more romantic can you get (sigh) You have to read this book to believe how romantic it is, and I can tell you that this is one of the best books I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Tale Review: The Viscount Who Loved Me contains one of the funniest scenes I have ever read to date. When the Bridgertons come together, their squabbles make any event lively. In this book, Julia Quinn shows off her flair for humor and sarcastic retorts that will leave you laughing out loud. The romance is subtly hidden in a nice plot that draws you in very quickly while making you like the characters immeasurably. Not only that, you begin to care for more than just the main characters and become involved with wanting to know more about the entire family and their close friends. The book does contain some very emotional moments that made me care all the more deeply about this group of characters. It is one of the best romance novels I have read. It may not be as blatantly sensual as other books, but it has an emotional, humorous quality that makes it stand out among the others. I highly recommend the Bridgerton series and this book is probably my favorite so far. I know that Idefinitely catch myself reading it time and time again.
Rating: Summary: I am reading the series in reverse order but they are great Review: I started reading this series by picking up an offer from a gentleman and now am reading the series backwards. i can't wait to read the rest of the brothers and sisters stories. Quinn submerges you into the life of the Bridgerton family and makes you desperately wish they were real and you were a part of the great family. My favorite scene in the book was the Pall Mall game - it sounded like so much fun - oh if only it were real <smile>
Rating: Summary: Better than average, but not by much Review: This book is better than your average romance because it's funny, the characters are likeable, and the plot moves along believably. But a few things really annoyed me about it -- it's not very well written, it contains many historical mistakes that could have been easily researched, and it never lives up to its romantic potential. Quinn doesn't have much historical detail at all (they're not well-researched books), and when she does, she makes mistakes. There's a recurring running gag centering on confusion as to which Miss Sheffield of the two sisters is being referring to, when anyone who's read Jane Austen knows that the elder sister would have been Miss Sheffield and the younger sister, Miss Edwina. A mother-in-law would NEVER have told her daughter-in-law to call her by her first name, not in a formal time that required that wives call their husbands "my lord" or "Mr. So-and-So." She has the hero wearing thick boots to a ball (!) when he should have been wearing evening pumps. As for the romantic potential, she doesn't spend nearly as much time talking about what the characters are feeling as what they're doing, and the result is flat. Regarding her writing, Quinn uses the same catch phrases as cliches over and over again throughout the book and in all her books. They left me with the impression that she tossed them off and sort of mass produced them. I did think that "The Duke and I" and "An Offer From a Gentleman" were both better than this one. If these things don't bother you, then it's a decent story with warm characterization and a tongue-in-cheek humor that's fun to read. I'll read her books again, but probably only if I find them used.
Rating: Summary: Anthony's Story! It's A Must Read Review: Full of typical JQ humor you will not be disappointed in this book. Be prepared to laugh out loud or have a silly grin on your face while you read. And yes Lady Whistledown is here as well. Anthony is an elusive bachelor with no immediate plans to marry. Or has he? The society gossip column is wrong Anthony does plan to marry has even gone to the trouble to pick his wife to be out. What he did not plan on was the reaction of his wife to be's sister Kate. She does not think that Anthony is a good choice for her sister. In fact he is the Wrong choice for her sister and is determined to do all that she can to make sure that this rake does not marry her. What Kate did not count on or what Anthony did not count on was the attraction that they would feel for each other. Full of laughs and fun characters you will not be let down with this one.
