Rating: Summary: So-so Romance Review: The language used in some of the conversations was far too modern. It actually made me laugh in some passages because it was so far out of place for the time. I admit, it bothered me more and more as I continued reading.
The heroine was pretty one-dimensional. Her only goal was to "get her man". Geesh! Get a life! How 'bout a bit more depth to this poor woman?
It was a quick read and only mediocre for a romance.
Rating: Summary: To Tame a Highland Warrior Review: This book is a continuation of characters, not a sequel. Although, there are some references to "Beyond the Highland Mist", you will still be able to read this without confusion.Grimm, Ramsay and Quinn are summoned by Gibraltar to "Come for Jillian". Jillian refuses to wed. As a young girl she fell in love with Grimm, but he ran off. Now he is back in her life and she still has the same feelings for him. Grimm, a Berserker, is at a constant battle with himself and his past, to afraid of what might happen if he becomes to involved with Jillian. Meanwhile, the McCane are on his trail and Ramsay and Quinn are trying to get Jillian to marry them. This book is filled with everday emotions most will be able to relate to. To Tame a Highland Warrior was not so far fetched with oddities that one could possibly believe this could have been a true story.
Rating: Summary: The story of the Berserker! Review: This is the story of Grimm (Gavrael McIllioch) and Jillian. They have been in love since they were children but Grimm refuses to fulfill this love because he is a Berserker. A legendary warrior of Odin with mythical power. He is afraid to show her what he is for fear of hurting her and rejection. He is called with two other suitors to compete for Jillian's hand in marriage but vows to let one of the others have her. In the end this is an empty vow for on her wedding day he kidnaps her from the altar and takes her away to be his own. They have a deep and tender love that cannot be denied. Grimm is forever pursued because he is the last of the Berserkers and a rival clan wishes to destroy him. He returns to his home and faces his family and learns the truth about his childhood. He reconciles with his father and uncle. He is pursued by the rival clan and turns Berserker in front of Jillian (who had already figured out what he was). This is one of the most poignant scenes in the whole book....he faces her...in his Berserker form and she tells him that she loves him. He is triumphant. It is one of the most beautiful scenes EVER. I cried when I read it. I loved this book though the beginning was a bit slow. The legend of the Berserkers is fascinating. Well worth a read. Moning always throws something interesting in her books. BUY IT.
Rating: Summary: the other stories was better Review: This one is ok, but I do like Ms.Moning's books so I tried this one also. I don't like this cover. But of course I didn't judge it by it's cover only.. I've read it and I don't know but I think I like the timetraveling themes more and it was fun to read a little and find out more about Adrienne and Hawk. If you like timetraveling try "Kiss of the highlander", but "beyond the highland mist" was also good. Among the four books this one is the third best I think...
Rating: Summary: Another Great book Review: This was a wonderful extension to her first book Beyond the Highland Mist. The funny thing is that I didn't know that it was going to be an addition to that book. When I opened the novel and read the first few lines and recognized the names Hawk and Adrinne I thought, "Oh..How cool" Eventhough it was an extension it was a completely different story all in itself. I thought that the book moved at a great pace (not to fast not to slow) and concentrated more on romance and the building of character images than it did with just raw sexual tension. And when those parts did appear they were done in a tasteful manner. a very good book to read on the weekend when you have sometime on your hands. An even better read when you are stressed and want to escape the real world for a while...A job well done, a must read!
Rating: Summary: good story Review: This was quite a rewarding story. I came across the book after having read "The Dark Highlander" and "The Kiss of the Highlander" and I kind of expected more of the same: 16th century Scottish settings, dark tall men with a dangerous side, inhuman power and moral principles, small lush women strong-willed but soft at strategic moments, time travel, and a happy settlement at the end (with the possibility of a sequel). Like it or not, most authors do develop a certain formula. Well, how refreshing to see Grimm, the main male character of this story, more human than the previous sex gods - that is, hurt and vulnerable. I believe Ms. Moning did a very good job in exploring a wider range of emotions than previously. On top of that, she is a wonderful story teller. Her descriptions are vivid and evocative, be it about Highland castles or romantic acts, and whatever authorial tricks she uses to capture the reader's attention, they weren't apparent to this reader - hence I found myself fully immersed in the tale, all 384 pages of it. I am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Moning's books (although I suspect at some point I will grow tired of dark tall men with a dangerous side etc. etc.).
Rating: Summary: Best of the books... so far Review: This was the first book (and my favorite still) that I read written by Karen Moning and it got me addicted to her stories. The main characters in the book are so engrossing without being sappy. Their love story reminds me of Julie Garwood's Highland books (The Bride, The Wedding, The Secret, and Ransom). I read the book in one sitting without stopping and wished that it didn't have to end.
Rating: Summary: wonderful Review: Well I loved Karen's first book Beyond the Highland Mist so much I had to buy all her books. I was so glad I did because I really loved this book. This is Grimm's story. In the first book. Grimm's best friend Hawk marries a woman named Adrienne who makes a wish for Grimm but won't tell either of them what it is. Well the wish is for Grimm to find a woman who would heal his heart as Hawk had healed hers. Well Grimm did. He has a secret though, one that he is terribly afraid to reveal. He is a Berserker. He flees his home at a very young age after seeing his father holding his dead mother and dripping in her blood and holding a knife. Then his home and villiage is attacked and he becomes the enraged beast like Berserker. He flees vowing never to return. Well He spends a few years on his own until he is discovered by a beautiful little girl and her family takes him in. They train him and provide for him and the little girl falls in love with him and follows him everywhere. But when his foster family is attacked he turns Berserker again and now flees them so that they will never know his dark secret. He loves the girl but believes that if she knew the truth she would turn from him in horror. Plus he is desperately afraid that he might turn Berserker and accidently kill her. When years later he gets a letter from the girls father asking him to return to take care of her, he does imediately even though he knows it will be hard to face her. Jillian has now grown into a beautiful woman but hasn't found a husband yet. Her father devises a plan to get Grimm there and invites two other suitors to make Jillian choose and make Grimm jealous. It works. They are still in love but Grimm won't admit it. Someone is trying to kill him and he flees again fearing that Jillian will be hurt if he stays. Quinn, one of the other suitors grew up with both Jillian and Grimm and knows they love each other but for Jillian's sake agrees to marry her. Grimm flys into the wedding at the last possible moment and takes Jillian with him. Finally admitting that he loves her. This story is funny and touching and very sensual. The love scenes are truely hot. get this book and any others by Karen Marie Moning.
Rating: Summary: Beserk for Grimm!! Review: Where can I find a man like Grimm?!?!? Ah...What a wonderful book. Full of action, suspense, and a love that can tame even the fiercest beast. Grimm is a Beserker, a legendary warrior of Odin. He is a loving man, but keeps his distance from everyone to try and hide the beast inside him. His struggle to come to terms with the Beserker will tear at your heart. Jillian loved Grimm when she was a child, but he broke her heart when he left. Now he is back and is one of the three men that her father and brought as a last ditch effort to marry her off. She tries to hide her love for Grimm, but the pull between them is too strong. She is strong and fiesty. A perfect match for the fiercest warrior in the land. Make sure you don't have to get up early in the morning on the night you start this book. It is one of those that you will stay up all night reading. A definite keeper! Jenny Bogue Paper-and-lace Specializing in paranormal romance and fiction.
