Rating: Summary: A fun read....but not what I hoped for Review: This was a nice book..If I had not read the other books in this series first, I think I would have liked this one better. The reason being that I quite honestly adored Colin from the earlier novels, so, when I found that he was to have his own book..and then to be paired with Penelope!!!..I was ecstatic!!!!! However, I feel like..well...where was the romance? It was a sweet story, but I wanted more details..I felt like their feelings for eachother were lukewarm. What killed me the most was ....what the heck happened to Colin? He seemed to have lost all of his appeal in this book. Dont get me wrong..this was sweet and I was charmed by Penelope, but I think there could have been less focus on Whistledown and more on Colin and Penelope's relationship. Oh well...Im still glad that I read it..and I'm most definitely going to jump at the chance to read about Eloise.
Rating: Summary: Quinn of wits and romance ! Review: Rest assured I will keep your identity a secret even though it is already exposed by popular romance novelist Julia Quinn on her latest effort Romancing Mr. Bridgerton that chronicles the love chapter between Penelope Featherington and the much-sought after bachelor Colin Bridgerton. I ardently recommend you this book which features your scintillating reports on the beau monde of the ton and the explosive pursuit by the ton to unmask you. Not to mention the nefarious Cressida Twombley trying to impersonate your highness in an avaricious scheme to get Lady Danbury's ... prize. All these is secondary to the vibrant protagonist Penelope who charms with self-effacing humour and a heart of gold. She matures from an awkward debutante to a confident spinster while secretly yearning for the suave Colin who came back after slaking his wanderlust. He observes a new Penelope with robust intelligence and finds an inexplicable affinity with her. Love thunders in unexpectedly but the secret buried in Penelope (which I am sure you would surely know with your astuteness) threatens their nascent romance. It is a most unexceptional book because it deviates from the trend of "throwing the bedroom door open" ubiquitous in romance novels nowadays. Bolstering on wits and plenty of heart (and lots of speculation and snooping on your identity), the relationship of love grows from secret admiration to platonic and to even trust and sacrifice. It calls upon the couple to confront their insecurities in order to arrive at their happy ending. One thing lacking though was the book dominated with your exploits and under-developed Colin's sudden affection for Penelope as a result. It is with regret that I am apprised of your retirement. Never mind though - this book will serve to relive your memories on your infamous escapades. Gleefully intertaining with irreverent humour, it has been long that a romance book can rival the entertainment that only your publications can provide. I believe that Julia Quinn will earn my fanaticism as well as yours.
Rating: Summary: A delightful read Review: Julia Quinn has done it again. ROMANCING MR. BRIDGERTON is an enchanting read. I love Penelope and Colin. They are so perfect for each other. I love the fact that Colin seems to have everything and need nothing but discovers that he needs Penelope. The unveiling of Lady Whistledown adds a fun twist and I love the love scene with Penelope and Colin. It is one of the nicest and most sensual, without being over the top. This is a wonderful, feel good read that you won't be able to put down. Thank you Julia. I can't wait for Eloise's story coming early 2003.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointed!!! Review: Not her best at all!! I even re-read her 3 other Bridgerton books to prepare myself for this new one, and after laughing and crying through the other 3, I had to force myself to finish this one. Colin was a one dimentional character who never really fell in love, and was always whining about something. I'm not appreciated! I'm not good enough!! Everybody loves me but doesn't know me! Shut up!! And Penelope! I thought she was one tough cookie, but everytime Colin kissed her, she's be this empty headed little girl who forgave him for everything! I would give it one star, but I'm not that heartless.
Rating: Summary: It should have been titled "Discovering Lady Whistledown" Review: After reading the reviews on this book I had to comment. I think that Julia spent way too much time on Lady Whistledown, and not enough on the ROMANCE between Colin and Penelope. I waited patiently for this book, and only gave it three stars because it's a Quinn. Because unrequited love is something most of us can identify with, we want more than just "the wedding was magical-and the wedding night-well, that was magical, too" (page 298)We want DETAILS, Julia! Where's the ROMANCE?? How could you gloss over such an important part of the story-the culmination of Penelope's infatuation of many years? I hope that Eloise's story is more like the Quinn I know and love.
Rating: Summary: not her best Review: Julia Quinn has become one of my favorite authors, based on her Brigerton series (especially The Duke and I). Her unique voice gives her stories warmth, charm, originality and fun! I also love that her hero and heroines always like each other, and treat each other with respect. I have been looking forward to Colin and Penelope's story and bought it the day it came out. But though the book had moments of wit and charm, I found it to be dissapointing. The book reminded me of Ms. Quinn's earlier novels, which seemed to lack character depth, and were filled with pages and pages of dialogue that, frankly, gets tedious after awhile. The book had touches of Ms. Quinn's sparkle and wit, but something was lacking between Colin and Penelope. Books like The Duke and I and The Viscount Who Loved Me had both light humour, as well as deep characterizations and conflict. This book didn't go deep enough to get at the heart of the hero or the heroine's emotions -- Especially Colin's. For example, why did he suddenly have a change of heart about Penelope? Penelope had loved Colin for years from afar, yet her circumstance didn't pull at my heart like it should have. The book, though good, seemed to just skim the surface of its great promise.
Rating: Summary: Having a hard time finishing this book... Review: I've enjoyed other books by Julia Quinn, and was excited to buy this. I normally can read a book like this in one sitting. It has been a week now and I just can't seem to care about anyone in this story. Sorry save your money and go buy an old book by Mary Stewart!
Rating: Summary: The Amazing Quinn! Review: If only Julia Quinn had a new romance novel every month! I found this book to be quite touching and a really sweet romance. As always the dialogue is very witty and enjoyable and the story of the Bridgerton's and others is hilarious. What happens though when all the Bridgerton stories are done - I don't want to see that day! Thanks to Ms. Quinn for such wonderful love stories!!
Rating: Summary: A Real Romance Review: I really liked this book, with all of Quinn's humorous writing style, witty dialogue and sparkling characters. The fact that both characters are judged by outward appearances and only when they begin to look inside the person do they begin to fall in love, makes for a really likeable romance. The Lady Whistledown plot does get wearisome, but that's only minor details. Don't let it ursurp the fact that the romance is realistic, beautiful and will endear you to both characters.
Rating: Summary: Who IS Miss Whistledown? Review: This mystery is entwined into a large part of this story. Lady Danbury announces a reward for finding out "Who IS Miss Whistledown" and as in previous novels you are quite in a fervor to figure it out, and JQ does a splendid job with making sure you have lots of candidates to choose from. ((smile))Penelope we have watch grow from the earlier books and I must say I rather enjoyed how JQ allowed Penelope to mature and become comfortable in her status as a "spinster" but I also must point out that she has quite a back bone and "knows" what she wants she isn't afraid to do (or say something) that isn't acceptable by society standards. Colin is still quite the charming debonair gentleman but I felt like he lacked somehting and I can't quite put my finger on it. There is witty dialogue that you have come to associate with Ms. Quinns work and you do get to see your favorite old characters return. I absolutely adore "Violet" the Mother of all of these Bridgerton's and Lady Danbury becomes quite endearing in this tale. I won't say much about the plot because that would spoil the anticipation. I will say that there are displays of friendship in this book that I found quite endearing and had to wipe a tear or 2 from my eyes, (sigh) Eloise has something up her sleeve that I think shall be revealed in the next Bridgerton book coming out in 2003. I think there are only 2 siblings left in the aphabetical order to be married off, it seems that JQ had 2 of them taken care of without writing their stories LOL anyhoo so we just have Hyacinth and Eloise to look forward to. Overall I liked this book I can't say I had a lot of "Laugh Out Loud" moments as I did with "The Viscount Who Loved Me" or some of her earlier books but I do think that it's worth the time and appreciate her efforts. Is it a "Keeper"? urhhhh well yes ONLY because it is a part of a series and because you collect this authors work, if it wasn't for those 2 considerations then I probably wouldn't vote to keep it in my Library. Does the mystery of "Who Miss Whistledown is" get's solved you'll definately have to pick up the book to find out.. Sorry no spoilers here. Happy Reading
