Summary: The best Bridgerton book...
Review: Ahh, Penelope and her beloved Colin. Everyone knew, of course, after seeing them in An Offer From a Gentleman, that these two were destined for each other. And the story of how they come together is simply the sweetest, most heartwarming romance I've read in a long time.

Penelope was pushed into society at a very early and awkward age, looking ill-favored in the hideous gowns her mother picked out for her. After the first few years of baby fat and clothes that made her look like an "over-ripe citrus fruit", she's a bit scarred by the ton's callous treatment of her, yet she never loses her wry humor over the silliness of it all. After a time, she becomes a certifiable spinster, and, left to her own devices, she remains a wallflower still, but a rather more elegant and dignified wallflower nonetheless.

All this time, Colin has been abroad, looking for adventure and a purpose in life but not truly finding it. The story kicks up when he returns to London from a trip to Cyprus, and things start happening that make him realize that what he's been seeking was right under his nose the whole time. Our favorite wallflower (that's Penelope) first begins to see herself differently when Lady Danbury prompts a little bit of self-confidence into her. Then Penelope discovers Colin's journal. Then comes speculation over Lady Whistledown's identity. As Colin and Penelope are thrown together over these situations, he discovers that she, of all people, understands him and his desire for a purpose in life. Soon, her opinions come to matter more and more to him, and he begins to want more than the casual friendship they've had since, like, forever. As for Penelope, the discovery of previously unseen aspects of Colin's character changes her love from an ideal into something more profound and real.

The depiction of Colin's growing love for Penelope is believable and well-paced. Of course, they have a few problems and insecurities to work out before happily ever after, but it's just so sigh-inducingly romantic to see how fiercely Colin protects Penelope from hurt, even at the beginning. And the catty Cressida Twombley's comeuppance was delightful.

In RMB, the Whistledown plot is fun, and the interaction between the Bridgertons is always charming (Hyacinth and "gluuuuuee.") but the real gem is the sweet story of how two people learn to look beyond surfaces to find a deep, mature love. The one quibble I have with the book is the pacing of the external conflict when they're interacting with society: it's not always consistent and smooth, and some parts do drag a little. It's not a big deal, though. Colin and Penelope's story left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, like everything was right with the world. Read this book!

Summary: This book is great...
Review: This book is great, but, again, I had to save my 5 star rating for those books that that are perfect!!

This is the fourth novel in the "Bridgeton" series...following "The Viscount who Loved Me" "An Offer from a Gentleman" and followed by "To Sir Phillip, With Love" and soon..."When He was Wicked."

I really liked this story. Penelope has always been a character that I admired...one of those that has been in all the ridgerton novels and we knew we wanted to read more about...and who had a brain amongst all the pretty faces in the ballroom. Penelope has always had a crush on Colin...but he thinks of her as a sister. Penelope has a side that she doesn't let anyoen else see...and it takes Colin opening her up and lady danbury's coaxing to bring her out of her shell!

I was both happy to see an end to the Whistledown side story and happy. The way Lady Danbury brought the subject up as a contest and has the whole ton, including Penelope and Colin, looking at their peers as possible Whistledown's in disguise was just great! Quinn is great!

Summary: Witty, Romantic, and Funny
Review: This story is everything you've ever loved in a romantic comedy, with a wonderful hero, a sassy heroine, and a sarcastic know-it-all. It's every woman's dream of being noticed by Mr. Popular, and even better, finding out that while he's Mr. Right, he's not Mr. Perfect.

With Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, it felt as if I was watching characters I'd loved and adored from the previous stories grow up and find themselves, then fall in love in the sweetest way possible. A must read for any romance reader and particularly a JQ fan.

Summary: Classic Quinn
Review: For anyone who likes Julia Quinn, you won't be disappointed with Romancing Mister Bridgerton. A very sweet, funny, and romantic story about a intelligent and witty, although not overtly beautiful young woman finding love with the man of her dreams.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Complex, Mature, Passionate, Vastly Entertaining
Review: Just when I think that Julia Quinn has written one of my favorite novels, she writes another that I like even better. Quinn is now at the height of her creative powers so far, able to create an intensely warm, charming and vastly entertaining story that simmers with passion, tenderness and depth. The last chapter before the epilogue actually moved me to tears.

Penelope Featherington (whom we know from all previous Bridgerton novels) is 28 and has been in love with Colin Bridgerton since she was 16. Unfortunately for her, Colin barely knows she exists, though he has always been friendly and kind to her. As Eloise Bridgerton's best friend, Penelope has spent a lot of time at the Bridgerton home and is considered practically a part of the family, especially now that she and Eloise are both spinsters.

Colin (who's 33 and still not married) returns from one of his many long voyages abroad, and somehow Penelope seems different-or maybe he's different. He's not sure. As they're thrown together, he begins to notice admirable-and highly attractive qualities-in her that he's never seen before. But suddenly Penelope glimpses darkness and fear in the supremely confident Colin she's always loved. What is the secret he's keeping from her? And can their beautiful developing friendship grow into love?

Here is a novel in which telling the external plot (which revolves around everyone trying to figure out who Lady Whistledown is) gives no guide to the treasures within. This novel is about character and dramatic situation. The characters themselves grow and keep growing on the reader. The Bridgerton family is endlessly delightful. Colin and Penelope especially seem so real that it's hard to believe they're fictional. Colin's own travel writing is exquisite-a joy to read. And there are some really priceless scenes-like the madcap one in which Colin asks Penelope's mother for Penelope's hand: pure and vastly entertaining comedy!

The identity of the wonderfully wise and witty Lady Whistledown is finally revealed here, and my having guessed who she was three novels ago didn't diminish the pleasure in the least.

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton is a complex, mature and vastly entertaining work that no romance enthusiast should miss!

Summary: A wonderful fairy-tale for anyone!
Review: I loved this book. This is a story about the ignored wallflower who dreams of getting noticed by her best friend's handsome brother, but spends a decade as nothing but his little sister's friend. Suddenly, Colin, the handsome brother, returns from years of travels, and finally notices the beautiful blossom underneath the facade of Penelope, the ignored wallflower. What follows is a beautiful, fun story of finding love where it's least expected.

Summary: Bravo, Ms.Whistledown.
Review: I Read this excellent book in a total of 2 days and only because I had to read the Duke and I first. Colin the infamous playboy finally falls hard for Penelope Featherington the lonely spinster. As always their is lots of humor and wit and it always is great lead-in for the one in the series. Her books are getting more detailed and also every one book has a continuance of a more detailed problem to get thru. And as for the final build-up the great Ms. Whistledown is revealed. You will have to read the book to find out who the secret person is. I'm anxious for the final 3 in the series and can't wait. I highly recommend this series.

Summary: One of the best romances ever written!
Review: Julia Quinn has taken a typical romance plotline (ugly-duckling gets man of her dreams) and makes it the most endearing, complex and REAL story possible. Penelope is a wonderful heroine - she is strong, smart and stands up for what she believes in, despite her general rejection by society. And Colin, who by his own admission lives a charmed life, is still complicated, lovable and realizes that even he had some lessons to learn in the end.

It's a great book, and one that re-defines the regency romance with it's quick, witty dialoge that will make you laugh in more than one spot. All of the Bridgerton books are wonderful, but this is the crowining jewel. Enjoy!

Summary: Simply Don't Understand The Hype...
Review: The rating on this one should really be a 2 1/2, but you can't do that on Amazon, so, oh well. This is my second JQ book and I just don't get it. People say that her characters are wonderful and witty and the writing is laugh-out-loud funny, but I honestly thought the characters were just, okay. Penenlope definietly grew on me, and looking back, turned out to be a rather endearing heroine; but Colin was just so one-dimensional and whiny that I found myself actually a bit disappointed when they finally got together. Penelope desrved better.

Both the internal and external "conflicts" were annoyingly contrived and too thin to carry the book; and having not read any of the other books in the Bridgerton series, I actually guessed who Lady Whistledown was about half-way through.

The worst part is the weak love affair between Colin and Penelope. There was such an opportunity to show the beauty and charm of good friends falling in love; however, with zero chemistry between the two of them, that opportunity was completely wasted.

Overall, the author got it all mixed up on this one. While the dialogue and characters were sometimes cute, the only part of the book I found laugh-out-loud funny were the love scenes. I don't think that's what the author had intended.

Summary: An excellent read
Review: I found this book quite good. The only problem is that I read it first, before I read any of the other Bridgerton books. If you haven't read them first, go back and do so, then read this installment. The novel stands along quite well by itself, but yes, the beloved Lady Whistledown is revealed. So while the other stories are great on their own, you lose that sense of "mystery" of who the brutally honest lady is.
