Rating: Summary: Almost Worth the Wait Review: I couldn't wait Colin's story to come out. And while I enjoyed Colin and Penelope getting together, there seemed to be something missing. I guess I was a little disappointed with the revelation of Mrs. Whistledown. I couldn't quite believe Julia's choice. But as I do love the Bridgerton series, I would recommend this to any of you who do also. The family is ever present and helps to make up for any lack in other areas.
Rating: Summary: Romancing Mr. Bridgerton Review: Was so looking forward to another great Quinn novel, and was so very disappointed. Just not her usual wit and banter. Found it rather lacking, which is a FIRST for one of her novels. I've read them all, and have loved them all, except for this one.
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: I have enjoyed all of the previous Bridgerton novels, when I heard that Colin was going to be paired with Penelope, I thought how odd. It works! All of the Bridgerton stories have been highly enjoyable. Lady Whistledown is finally unmasked, what a surprise. I enjoyed interaction between Penelope and Colin. The book added greatly to my appreciation of Julia Quinn's work. Every lady should have a life's work.
Rating: Summary: Okay . . . but not a page-turner, stay-up-all-night book Review: I'm surprised by all the five-star reviews. This is a fair read. Colin and Penelope are engaging characters and it *is* fun to read about them again. However, the book drags down in so many places I found myself wondering if publishers don't hire editors anymore. Really, some of the conversations re. Lady Whistledown's identity and Colin's angst over a lack of purpose were plain insipid.
Rating: Summary: The Best Of The Bridgerton Series Review: Like everyone else, I have been waiting for Romancing Mr Bridgerton to come out and it definitely was worth the wait. Penelope Featherington has been in love with her best friend's brother for years, but Colin has always regarded Penelope with a mixture of affection and pity. Penelope is kind of plain and awkward, and she has largely been either ignored or made fun of at balls. But underneath the shyness, Penelope is intelligent, funny and kind and Colin begins to see these traits years later when he returns from his travels. Slowly he feels more and more drawn to her and Quinn does a great job of developing this change. I really liked Penelope's character. She is not this perfect heroine that many authors try to create. She is passable attractive at best and shy. Only people she knows well know the real Penelope who has a sharp wit and good sense of humor. I also liked Colin. He is a genuinely good person, and when he realizes how he feels about Penelope, he becomes her biggest champion. He is protective, possessive and loving. I would recommend this story to anyone, but I would also suggest reading the first three stories of the Bridgerton series to get more background information.
Rating: Summary: Fun Fun Fun Review: Penelope Featherington has been in love with Colin Bridgerton ever since she first came to town, 12 years earlier. Colin does not really notice her in a romantic sense though until Penelope begins to feel confident enough to let her true self out show. Penelope has spent her entire life as the plain one, the plump one, the one whom her mother thought would take care of her in her old age. Colin has spent his life adored by everyone, but restless as only a third son can be in Ton life. They are the perfect match for each other -- it just takes Colin a while to figure that out and Penelope a while to believe enough in herself to see it. This was such a fun romance, with two likeable characters who had chemistry between them. In so many romances it is difficult to see why the heroine would ever want to be with the hero or vice versa. One is usually an insensitive brooding clod and the other an idiot who spouts of platitudes about women's rights, but loves it when her man treats her mean. Julia's characters are not maniacal idiots, and it is always a joy to read her books.
Rating: Summary: Not Julia's Best Review: I have read and enjoyed all of Julia Quinn's previous books. The Bridgerton Series quickly became one of my favorites. But, I must say I was disappointed by "Romancing Mister Bridgerton." Colin and Penelope were more interesting characters in the previous Bridgerton stories. In "Romancing Mister Bridgerton" their characters are one dimensional and lackluster. They never really matured as a couple. Even the romance in this story has been glossed over and barely mentioned. Too much time was given to the history of the other stories and not enough time in developing a true love story for Colin and Penelope. Penolope's love for Colin never developed beyond the girlish infatuation of a teenager, nor did she ever become comfortable in her new role as Colin's love interest. I did not view Penolope as the "witty and clever" 28 year old woman she was supposed to be because she stammered throughout the whole book and always seemed unsure of herself.
Rating: Summary: Major Dissapointment Review: After reading the other reviews i'm starting to think that maybe i read another book with the same title, as i seem to be the only disatisfied customer. Now, don't get me wrong, i love Julia Quinn, I own everything she's written and have haunted amazon.com waiting for the latest installment. But I have to say it, I was pretty bored, even though I tried and tried to like it. It's not the standard I've come to expect from Quinn. The plot was lame. I mean it all centered on revealing Lady W, and let's face it, I figured that one out in The Viscount Who Loved Me. Apart from that not much else happened in the book. Colin and Penelope as a couple left me cold and all I could think was, I wonder if Eloise's book will be better. Also where was the humour?!?!? Yes I know a book doesn't have to be funny to be good. I love Lisa Kleypas and she's pretty humourless, but i didn't even laugh once throughout the book which added to my feeling of dissatisfaction. Maybe if it had been part of another series, but the style seemed such a departure from the preceding novels that i have to ask myself why.
Rating: Summary: Almost.... Review: I really wanted Penelope and Colin to get together, and I adore the Bridgerton family. I re-read parts in other books just because they make me laugh. While the Bridgerton family was in full force throughout this book, it seemed replayed. Colin's trauma just semed like a replay of Benedict's problems. The way the relationship with Penelope and Colin moved, was a little flat as well. I expected something like the other three books, origianl and witty. Instead, Colin randomly seems to decide he loves Penelope. Their conversations are interesting, but their romance is not. Plus, frankly, Lady Whistledown was a let down. I think Ms. Quinn could have made it more creative. I will definitely read more books by her, and pre-order the next Bridgerton book. But I was most definitely dissapointed
Rating: Summary: It IS GREAT!!! Review: I just want to let readers know how great this book is. i laughed so much my stomach hurt. That is a great feeling. If you want to boost your self esteem or get away from your world for a night this is the book to get.
