Rating: Summary: Humorous, Romantic, and Totally Fullfilling Review: This is a novel that I could recomend to anyone, and would. It held my attention from beginning to end. It made me laugh, it made me hang on to the edge of my seat, it had some truly romantic scenes that made me want more, but it never once compromised the story line. This is a powerful novel that outlines the wonderful qualities of human nature while fighting some of the worst qualities of human anture. The characters are believable and very easy to relate to. Possible made for TV movie anyone? Although I could see it happening, I wouldn't want to see it happen as I am sure it would loose something. Kudos to Ms. Garwood for a job very well done.
Rating: Summary: My first and not last J.Garwood book! Review: I LOVED this book! It had me laughing, OUT LOUD! I fell in love with the characters, both Theo and Mike and even Big Daddy Jake and the brothers, everyone! I good bit of mystery, a bit of romance, a lot of intrigue, chase scenes that made my heart throb, and kissing scenes that did the same! Thanks be to Julie Garwood. There are definately a few more books of hers I will read. I have recently enjoyed Kay Hooper, Catherine Coulter, Sandra Brown, etc.
Rating: Summary: Even better than "Heartbreaker!" Review: I picked up this book in the library after looking for a new author to devour (I'm a fan of Linda Howard, Heather Graham and Karen Robards) and was thrilled to learn it was the second in a connecting series. But don't worry -- if you haven't read "Heartbreaker" first you will still enjoy this story. This is one of the most clever white collar crime-based fictional novels I've read in a while (and I have two justice degrees!). Honestly, I liked the members of the Sowing Club at first, which meant Garwood did a good job of humanizing them. And I LOVED Theo and Mike together... I was also tickled to see the return of Noah Clabourne...he deserves a novel of his own! Don't hesitate to read this book on a rainy day. You might not be able to put it down!
Rating: Summary: Sorry Julie Review: I thought long and hard about what I should write. I review what others had said. Julie I'm begging you to at least write one or two Historicals mixed in with contempoary. I'm find that most of my beloved romance writers are taking a stab at mystery. I must say that so far I have not been overly impressed. I really, really loved your historicals. I understand the need to branch out but many of your fans would love to see you write at least some historicals. I really want to see a sequel to "THE WEDDING". I think that Quinlan and Faith need a story.
Rating: Summary: funny, witty, good, made me laugh Review: i really did not want to buy this book, but i have read previous books by ms. garwood, i must say that 'mercy' was hilarious especially the character 'theo'. i actually felt sorry for him at one point. i could not put this book down i just had to keep reading and even recommended this book to other friends. ms. garwood has linda howard running for her money and ms. howard is good.
Rating: Summary: This is not Linda Howard Review: I finished 'Heartbreaker' yesterday and I found a sneak preview to Mercy at the back of the book. While I haven't laid my hands on 'Mercy' yet, I thought I should check out reader reviews first. Looking through the reviews I found one that I had to comment on.(Believe me this is totally out of character for me but I couldn't help myself). One of the readers(Lindsey Wilson) refers to mercy as being one of Linda Howard's best. Please, please even if it's only wishful thinking do not confuse the author of this book with Ms. Howard. Heartbreaker which I have read and which is a preclude to 'Mercy' reads like an extremely pale imitation of a Linda Howard. While I was reading Heartbreaker I couldn't help but wish it was a Linda Howard. Now, she would know what to do with the characters, the story line and the dialog. I am a great fan of Linda Howard and I think she writes some of the best contemporary mystery/romance novels. Having said all this, I'll check out Mercy and hope that I don't have to force myself to finish it just because I paid good money for it as was the case with 'Heartbreaker'.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I loved Julie Garwood's historical romance so when she started in contemporary stories, I picked them up (even though I don't usually like the genre). Wow, am I glad I did. Her first novel, Heartbreaker was fabulous and Mercy is an excellent second edition to the story! It was nice to see old characters but also meet some great new ones. While there weren't a lot of convoluted plot twists and surprises, there were a couple of times that I really wasn't expecting the outcome! Great suspense, loveable characters and excellent writing add up to make a great book that everyone should try. I read this book in one day because I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: Brainless Heroine! Brainless Hero! Brainless Book! Review: I leafed through this book and it's beginning was great; everything went down hill after I paid for it. The characters became so old and so cliché just like all the other ones I'd read. The heroine has to be the stupidest thing since the first fiction writer ever scratched charcoal on a stone wall. I tell you if girls were easy as she was; it would be good to be a man!!! On top of that all the internal dialogue with the heroine and hero only proves that they are both the stupidest human beings ever to have a brain. They change their minds every single line, and with all the slashing around I get to feeling like I'm in a washing machine!!
Rating: Summary: This is how it's done! Review: Julie Garwood has succeeded wonderfully in making the shift from writing excellent historical romances to fascinating modern-day romantic thrillers, a feat not every author has the versitility to accomplish. 'Mercy' is fast-paced, with scenes as spicy as the gumbo of its Bayou setting. The plot is excellently crafted, but not forced, and offers plenty of hints and surprises as it unfolds. Not only did Ms. Garwood create an interesting hero, heroine and a colorful supporting cast, I was equally enthralled to read as she built toward the ultimate fate of the villians. This book is definitely worth the purchase!
Rating: Summary: Another great for Linda Howard Review: I've read almost every one of Linda Howard's books and I have to say this is one of my favorites. Having grown up in Louisiana, I can say that L.H. grasped the "small town life" perfectly! I loved the way Theo is mistaken for a football coach! I laughed out loud over several pages of this book. If you are new to L.H., take my advice and read this book. You will be engrossed in minutes. Enjoy!
