Rating: Summary: My Opinion Review: I agree with "It has got everything" and "THIS IS A KEEPER". Not much more you can add. It's a rereader. I love the ending. I have all Lindsey's books and this one of my favorites. The only way to tell if it will one of yours is to read it.
Rating: Summary: stamp of approval from a non-romance reader Review: Okay, I have to admit that I loved this book. I really don't read romance novels, but my sister is addicted to them and occasionally I pick one up and read it if she says it's good. This is probably one of THE best romance novels written, maybe even more so than Lindsey's Mallory novels, which I also reluctantly read and then enjoyed. This heroine actually has an original, well crafted personality, instead of fitting into the the worn mold of the "sweet, innocent, and gentle" heroine or the snappy "bold, adventurous" heroine. Although repeatedly called a brat, she really isn't half as spoiled as others would have her be, and with all her hysterical conversations with herself, she's just too charming to dislike. Even Devlin, while easily fitting the mold of the arrogant, handsome beefcake hero, has managed to emerge with his own sparkling facets of originality. The plot, of course, is somewhat unbelievable, as are those of most novels of this genre (it also, unsurprisingly overuses words like "sensuous", etc.). While suspension of belief leaves an entertaining and really very funny story, it is the characters that make this book so wonderful. Besides the character of Megan, the only other interesting people are the antihero, Devlin, who's far brattier and spoiled than Megan could ever aspire to be; Devlin's grandmother; and Lachlan and co. toward the end. My guess is that if you enjoy romance novels, there's no way you couldn't like this one. Heck, even if you don't like romance novels, you could like Man of my Dreams. Look at me. I actually ended up owning the book.
Rating: Summary: Call me crazy, but.... Review: I hated this book! I've read all of Lindsay's other books and LOVED them but this one I could not even get into. I found Megan to be spoiled, boring and irritating and the same goes for Devlin. Thier characters were stereotypical and contrived - a couple of uninteresting fops muddling through in their little country town... I couldn't even finish it. I passed it on to a friend of mine who couldn't finish it either. I see that everyone is giving it great reviews and I should just move on and let sleeping dogs lie, but I just couldn't stand back. I have to warn others! If you prefer characters with a bit more depth or strength then you should try another Lindsay book. If you *must* buy this one - save your reciept.
Rating: Summary: Man of my dreams, too! Review: Lovely Megan Penworthy, the daughter of a country Squire, is devastated when she is snubbed by the neighboring Countess. Hurt, she tells her best friend that she would marry a Duke and show the rude Countess what for. Ambrose St. James, the Duke of Wrothston, must go into hiding over a misunderstanding. At his grandmother's suggestion, he poses as a horse breeder named Devlin Jeffries and hides out at the Penworthy stables. Megan can't figure Devlin out. He is devilishly handsome and altogether too arrogant to be a mere servant. They verbally spar with one another and their attraction for each other overtakes them. But Devlin can't understand Megan's determination to wed a Duke and Megan can't understand her attraction to this arrogant horse breeder. What will happen when the truth comes out? This book is quite exciting and humourous. Megan and Devlin both love to tease each other and take great pleasure in their verbal sparring. They, of course, do come together, but are shocked when bratty Megan becomes a well-mannered lady and Devlin reverts to a stuffy Duke. Only by recalling the less formal aspects of their personalities can they find true happiness with each other. A very warm, funny (I love it when Megan argues with her self), and charming love story.
Rating: Summary: My Favorite of Johanna's books; Review: This was by far my favorite book by JL. I have read it 4 times and would read it again. I love the line the male character uses in the beginning, " Horses are like women, for the most part treat them gently, and with a good slap on the rump when they get out of hand" something like that, anyway that was soooo true, men should take that to heart!!!! I'm tired of spoiled women always getting away with their behavior and no one ever taking them to task for it. Well you don't have to worry about that from JL novels, the women always get what they deserve without abuse.... a spanking never killed anyone, and hurts nothing but their pride, so it should definately be used on bratty women. I loved this book..... and search diligently for more from JL.
Rating: Summary: 'A Man to Dream About' Review: Witty, comical, sexy, jealousy, mistaken identity/imposter, and greed make up this Johanna Lindsey favorite. The characters are easy to like (love) and easy to laugh with and laugh about. Yes, Lindsey's has a classic winner you will treasure in 'Man of My Dreams'. However, like most Lindsey conclusions, there were no fireworks, no 'guns a blastin', no climax to keep you enthralled, just a simple 'I Love You' from the heroine to the hero, whom never confessed his love either. If you're familiar with Lindsey and her conclusions, you will not be disappointed, because you're not expecting the unexpected.
Rating: Summary: Unlikely sparks between a "brat" and a "horse breeder"! Review: This is a wonderful, must-read, must-buy book. Not only is all of the dialogue between the characters hilarious, it has some great sexual tension. Just reading Megan and Devlin's cut-down fights is funny enough. I've read this book over and over for the past few years. You'll love it.
Rating: Summary: A truly mahvelous read Review: This is Johanna Lindsey at her very very best. Two extremely appealing characters with excellent chemistry from the get go. Lots of humor, too.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A KEEPER! Review: I loved Man of my Dreams! I have read it three times and am going to read it again and again! I fell in love with Devlin right from the beginning and found he and Megan to be very entertaining! This book makes me smile and laugh out loud! it is so well written, even the scene where Devlin spanks Megan for putting herself in danger is not overdone and I felt like she deserved it! She acted like a child...he treated her that way! I highly recommend this book to every Lindsey fan and especially to those who have never read one of her books.
Rating: Summary: Lindsey's Best Review: MAN OF MY DREAMS is, by far, Lindsey's best work. I have yet to find another of her novels that I can read and reread numerous times--never getting tired of the plot. Devlin and Megan follow a humorous path to falling in love. Probably one of the best points about the book is that each is in love with other--even going so far as to confess their love to Devlin's mother--but never admitting so to each other. It is such hilarious happenings throughout the book that keep the reader intrigued . . . and laughing! For all Johanna Lindsey fans, this is a must-read.
