Rating: Summary: Return to Visitation Review: Bruce Kelly is on his way home to Visitation, NC when he sees a young woman who needs his help, Cynthia Potter. Bruce has met and helped a lot of woman like Cynthia, but she is resistant to his efforts. Cynthia Potter is tired of the life and is on her way to Visitation to begin all over again. Arriving in Visitation, she ends up meeting with sexy preacher Bruce Kelly, but past experience has taught her to be wary of men in Bruce's profession.Readers will remember Bruce from The Secret Life of Bryan and will be happy to not only get his story, but revisit with the people of Visitation, NC. You also get a deeper glance into Jamie Creed's persona. I loved WHEN BRUCE MET CYN, from the beginning of the book until the end.
Rating: Summary: Another great book by Lori Foster! Review: Finally, we get Bruce's story. This book is one of a series but can be ready by itself. In Bruce's story, we watch him try to win over Cyn with love and patience. Cyn has had a hard life and it takes someone as special as Bruce to win her love. I loved this book! Lori Foster did a great job with resolving the issues that were keeping the characters apart. The book was a delight to read. I'll be sorry when this series ends, they have all been great stories.
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended! Review: For the second time in her life, Cyn Porter is ready for a fresh start. She's headed for Visitation, NC - a town she chose from a map. Bruce Kelly, who followed in his twin brother Bryan's footsteps and settled in Visitation, sees a woman in trouble and does his best to help. With her less-than savory background, Cyn is an unlikely match for preacher Bruce but the two seem to bring out the best in each other. Difficult subjects are handled beautifully in this engrossing story. Cyn's life has been difficult, but she's tough and strong, ready to stand up to every challenge. Bruce is compassionate, supportive, and never judgmental. It was fun to revisit characters from other books in this series, including the mysterious Jamie Creed, who plays his biggest role yet. Suspense, steam, an intriguing plot and deep characters all contribute to a thoroughly enjoyable story.
Rating: Summary: Another Winner from Foster Review: Generally, I've never read a Lori Foster book I didn't like, some are better than others but they all have a great spark between the couples and Bruce and Cyn are no different.
Cyn is a woman running from a tragic secret who's decided to give up her life as a hooker and head to Visitation to start her new, clean life.
She meets Bruce (who we meet in Secret Life of Brian), a preacher who saves her from an altercation with an angry trucker.
Immediately there are sparks but what makes this book so wonderful is that instead of rushing into the sexy heat that Foster does so well, the chemistry builds slowly, both because Bruce is a preacher and because he respects and understands that Cyn's past dictates that he take things slow with her.
The drama was good, we saw all of the great citizens of Visitation again and Foster delivers a story that is sexy and funny and sweet.
Rating: Summary: An amazing, heartwarming book! Review: I am a huge Lori Foster fan, but even I was blown away by the level of intensity and perception of the human heart in this book. It is simply one of the most wonderful stories I have read in a very long time. Lori Foster dealt sensitively and honestly with many issues other writers would flounder under. The relationship between Cyn and Bruce is fantastically developed and realistically portrayed.
Quite simply, it is a poignant, beautifully written book. And yes, sexy and romantic and all the other things that make an incredible romance.
I loved it!
Rating: Summary: Implausible! Review: I bought this thinking it sounded 'hot'. I almost got the impression that while 'Bruce' was a minister he was also way too old for 'Cyn'. She being 22 and he 35ish. Just couldnt buy that premise. What a disappointment! Well, the 'top reviewers' liked it?????
Rating: Summary: Lori's Terrific...as always!! What a treat! Review: I love When Bruce Met Cyn!! Once again Lori gives her readers terrific characters and wonderful plot. Bruce is every woman's dream man, and Cyn a heroine to cheer for. Thanks, Lori, for another great story! Keep 'em coming!
Rating: Summary: Another great book from Lori Foster Review: I will keep this simple w/out repeating descriptives. Ms. Foster has done a terrific job of making these characters feel like people you know and care about; they are very well written and realistic. Ms. Foster has taken a touchy subject and written an endearing love story in which the secondary characters make an equally strong impact on the story. I look forward to reading the untold stories and have no doubt that I will enjoy them as much as I did this book and those prior. As with any Lori Foster story, I give a strong recommendation.
Rating: Summary: Facile, unrealistic, silly. Review: I'm astonished that so many people love this book, althouth maybe if I'd known less about child abuse and prostitution, I would have enjoyed it, too. I generally find Lori Foster's books entertaining. But the whole hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold-and-remarkable-self-esteem motif is not only trite and unrealistic, it's passe. I think romance novels (especially the short ones like this) are precisely the wrong place to deal with such complex issues as a primary plot. It's hard enough to do in a work of dramatic fiction. And in the many years I've been reading this genre, I have never seen an author get it right. Either she glosses over the whole thing, as here, or attempts a more realistic portrayal which saps the romance right out of the story.
The first book about Bruce and Bryan wasn't quite as bad as this one, because the prostitutes were secondary characters, and Foster didn't delve into their psyches. But I can't tell you how many times I put this book down in horror (and even amusement) at the pop-psychology psychobabble that proxied for actual recovery. Come on! The premise of even the most fantastic story needs to be believable on a fundamental level. For example (and I'm nitpicking here), this supposedly gorgeous girl starts hooking at age 17, gets effortlessly out of the game at around 22. In 5 years she has never gotten into any trouble (ie. never run afoul of a pimp), has managed to remain relatively nonchalant and well-adjusted, and--get this--has only saved about $2,000 in 5 years!! Supposedly, she was only hooking in the first place to save money, and it's not as if she were living in a city with a high cost of living. She must be the cheapest hooker in the world--which would make her clientele rather--ewww. She may as well have taken a respectable job as a waitress! All things being equal, she could have saved just as much in half the time.
Yet all this I could have overlooked, if I'd been engaged by the characters. But I wasn't. Plus, I didn't buy her relationship with Bruce. With all the amazing women around Bruce, this was the best he could do? Bruce's attraction to her seems rather...unsavory. Hey, I'm sure relationships like this happen, but that doesn't make them good reading. I guess the author wanted to write a hooker/holy man tale. But, while such a story might be more plausible in an old Western tale, it doesn't fly in contemporary romance. Not for me.
Rating: Summary: Loved this Book Review: Lori Foster is the best Romance writer and this book is part of my favorite of her series. I liked the unexpected twist the story takes towards the end, because it doesn't progress as the reader expects. You will love Bruce and root for Cyn and remember them long after the last page is read. And oh boy are we in for more stories in this series: Julie, Scott and Jamie are sure to fill the pages of the next several books. I love that Lori brings characters from the previous stories back so that we continue to be part of their lives. I can't wait until Lori tackles Jamie's story but on the way the others should be great. As with all her series, I will certainly miss the characters when the final book is written.
