Review: This was delightful. Finding a fun book is always enjoyable, and this little novel was fun all the way. It was quick reading, entertaining, and worry free. I must confess this was my introduction to Sabrina Jeffries, and now I am eager to search for more of her work.

Jordan Willis, the Earl of Blackmore lives with a bitter outlook on love and marriage. They raised his mother to marry a title, his starry-eyed father only too willing, and their disastrous union trained Jordan. Emily Fairchild is a prim, proper country parson's daughter. Her parents were happily married and Emily too wants a marriage filled with love, she will settle for nothing less.

Through mistaken identity, our two contestants windup in the carriage of the Earl of Blackmore -- unchaperoned. Immediately the earl accuses Emily of the marriage trap; the dignified Miss Fairchild laughs in his arrogant face.

With that lead-in, Sabrina Jeffries begins the reader's adventure. She produces a game of wit and pretense. A game filled with humor and cleverness. The author writes Emily as spirited, courageous, and gives her the ability to bedevil the grim Earl of Blackmore. Emily's tantalizing control, over the earl, is the story. Jeffries fills the pages with sexual tension and delivers the hot goods.

The only drawback to this enchanting little novel, was Jeffries' final handling of Emily's nemesis. Here the story strained; the retaliation was too convenient. Apart from that criticism, the balance of this fantasy is an amusing, heated book.

Summary: Wish I'd discovered Sabrina Jeffries sooner!
Review: This was my first Sabrina Jeffries book, and I'm kicking myself for having missed The Pirate Lord (although I have already bought my copy of The Dangerous Lord, the third book in the trilogy). Ms. Jeffries' characters come alive. Each one of them has a distinct personality. Jordan and Emily are well-motivated and enjoyable, and the chemistry between them is wonderful. But all of the secondary characters in this book are well-drawn, too. I particularly liked Ms. Jeffries use of humor. Her witty lines were part of the characters and not there just for the sake of being witty. And although the book was extremely funny in places, her conflicts were serious ones, strong enough to last the duration of the story. Can't wait to start the next Sabrina Jeffries book!

Summary: A DEFINITE KEEPER!
Review: What a great book! I read The Pirate Lord and absolutely loved it. That book was a hard act to follow. I wasn't sure if Jordan had what it took for his own book since he was a boorish character in the first book. I am happy to say that I was wrong. This book was equally good and Jordan was hero material after all. He falls in love with Emily who is a rector's daughter. She is the epitome of innocence. He too is innocent in the way of love because it is a foreign emotion for a rake like himself. They fall in love despite her dark secret. What I really like about Sabrina Jeffries books is that she depicts both characters vulnerability when they fall in love for the very first time. Neither character is too scarred or has too much emotional baggage. It is just two people experiencing the ups and downs of falling in love.
