Rating: Summary: Good but a Little Long Review: I enjoyed this book although there were some times when I couldn'd read it anymore, because it was just depressing with the drugs, child abuse, and the only family Emma ever had scattered. I was able to connect to the characters, they all seemed quite real to me, and it was a good story although they were a few places where it seemed like a soap opera that was never going to end. There were parts of this book that were not necessary at all to the point of the story. Yet despite it all, I couldn't stop reading it, I was hooked from the moment I picked it up. Once the book finally got around to issue of Emma and Michael it was sweet book, but there but things that didn't belong. An enjoyable book, but it was just to long in parts that didn't belong
Rating: Summary: Five Stars for me, too!! Review: I hate to be a "me, too," but like the other reviewers, I also give this book 5 stars! It is just wonderful - particularly the character development, the story themes and plotlines and the many, many social issues that are addressed with sensitivity and compassion including homosexuality, drug addiction, child abuse, and AIDS. But don't let that list scare you off: equally explored are love and commitment, holding onto and following a dream, growing up and true friendship. Mixed in with all of this are several great romances, a love between father and daughter and a great mystery. I love all of the characters, even those that are unlovable. Read & enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I have always like Nora Roberts and this book is one of her best. I cared about her characters and I was caught up in the emotions she created. I look forward to each new book by Ms. Roberts.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Roberts Review: I have read many of NR's novels, and this was one of my favorites. For those of you that have read Rivers End and enjoyed it, then you should like this one as well. The story of a little girl, abused by her mother and rescued by her father is touching and incredibly emotional. Roberts does an excellent job letting her readers grow up with Emma. We see her for length at 6, 13, 18 and finally as an adult. I thought it was amazing for Roberts to take on such heavy issues as repeat abuse patterns (in childhood and as adults), the ugliness of drug addictions, alcoholism, etc. This was truly one of her darker books - but I would say one of her best. A must read for any fan.
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I just finished re-reading this book after many years and it's just as great as it was when I first read it. Nora Roberts has a winner here! I wish she'd write more like it.
Rating: Summary: This book was too good! Review: I only read scattered parts of this book because I read it out loud to my 17 year-old cousin over my sprong break. I asked her what she was reading and she told me it was a book by Nora Roberts. I asked her if I could read it aloud to her and I loved every part of it. Ever since then, I've been reading my mom's Nora Roberts books. Public Secrets was hard to put down and I couldn't wait to read more of it out loud to my cousin. The book is about the life of Emma McAvoy. As a toddler she was beaten by her heroine addict mother until she meets her biological father, Devestation rock star Brian McAvoy. Brian takes Emma to live with him, his wife Bev, and their baby son, Darren. Emma is genuinely happy until the shocking death of her brother to which she was the only witness. As a six year old child only remembering monsters and scary men, it is hard for her to recall the face of Darren's killer. The murder seperates the McAvoy family. This book goes all throughout Emma's life. She is used and beaten because of who her father is and she doubts if anyone will love her just for her and not think of her as a connection to a superstar. With a twist of mystery, romance, and drama, Nora Roberts has written an excellent book and I can't wait to read the conclusion.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book, by far one of her best. Review: I've read quite a few books in the past year, I can say this.....Nora Roberts has been one of my favorite authors since I read "Divine Evil". "Public Secrets" had me totally intrigued. She tugs at your heart strings and doesn't let go. I found myself crying twice, (and it's not really a love story, it's suspense! Read this book!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ!!! Review: If you are a fan of Nora Roberts or just getting to know her work, then you MUST read Public Secrets! It captivates you from the very beginning when you are drawn into the lives of Emma, her father, and his best friends, who are up-and-coming rock stars. The suspense and intrique is Roberts at her best! I couldn't put it down once I started to read! I was up all night!
Rating: Summary: Good But Too Long Review: In My opinion the story could have been dealt with in half as many pages. It reads like a soap opera going on and on and on. The characters are likeable which is what redeems this novel. The development of the relationships will keep you turning the pages. But... the mystery is un-convincing, everyone knows from the get go who did it, so there's no surprise in the end. Hearing about the tired subjects of sex, drugs and rock and roll does not do it for me. So this story could not hold me.
Rating: Summary: My favorite Nora Roberts books, but then again... Review: it was also the first Nora Roberts book I read, I guess it holds the standard of what I expect from Roberts- GREATNESS. I love this book! In fact, it is the only book that I have read more than twice. I love the concept of the book and how it's centered around the music world. I love how the book spans the time of Emma at 3 into an adult and her life changes through all her experiences and the reader is able to understand mistakes and choices she makes through past events in her life. The romance was great, and the mystery part as well, but I loved just the general way that Roberts wove the story. I have read quite a few (getting close to all) of her books and I still love this one the best. Next to Public Secrets, Genuine Lies would have to be my next favorite... then maybe Where the Rivers Ends, where the main characters love story kind of reminds me of Emma and Michael. Read this book- you won't regret it!
