Rating: Summary: Mad fun Review: Rachel Gibson is one of the few authors whose books I purchase on name recognition alone. She has never disappointed me yet. I am happy to say this new novel is as terrific as all the previous ones. I really liked all the pop culture references. Sexual tension, smart dialogue, and a great sense of humor keep me a faithful fan.
Rating: Summary: I loved the others Review: I dearly love Rachel Gibson novels. Her heroines are always charming and her heroes great. And they are funny. But not in this book. In the first place, I cannot admire a woman who supports herself by writing porn. More of a problem is that Jane cannot believe Luc could love her because she's not tall, blond and gorgeous. She is more shallow than the hero. She cares for him because he's a star athlete who's gorgeous and sexy and has a great tatoo. I think it needed another edit. Parts are rough and the motivation fluctuates. I still can't see why the hero changed his mind in the end except he had to or the book would not have ended happily.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: This book is a really fast read that combines hockey and romance with alot of humor in between. This is my first Gibson book, but I'm anxious to read more. Truly enjoyable!
Rating: Summary: Hockey Hunks...Under-Explored Romance Heroes!! Review: Reader in Napa...Luc Martineau is probably an "average" looking hockey player. Rachel Gibson was right on in choosing hockey as the background for this novel, as hockey players are really an untapped source for romantic novel heroes. They tend to be chauvinistic, pigheaded and oh so attractive. Ms. Gibson pretty much captured the flavor of hockey life, but she kept calling the Stanley Cup-seeking Luc a Conn Smythe trophy winner...if she had only done a little more indepth research, she would have found that the player who wins the Conn Smythe trophy is the most outstanding player in the Stanley Cup Finals (and usually from the winning team). I'll cut her a little slack because she was right on about most of the other hockey facts. This was a cute book, quick read with just enough steam to keep you warm on a cold winter day.
Rating: Summary: Yeah! Review: What an enjoyable book! When I picked this book up I couldn't put it down! I really liked the characters and the story was sweet. It was one of those make you smile and lol kind of stories. If you enjoy Susan E. Phillips books you will definitely like this one - :)
Rating: Summary: wonderful read Review: I could hardly bear to put this book down to tend to my daily responsiblilities. Jane is not your typical "Barbie" girl - which is a great change of pace. Finally! The brainy plain girl gets the hot guy. (kinda like "The Truth about Cats & Dogs" in that aspect!) And Luc, while typical "Ken" looks, is not just a pretty face, even though he evolves from being one! Luc is just hot. Let's just say, I wouldn't mind seeing his "lucky" tattoo either! The dialouge between characters was believable and touching. I loved the banter. There were also times I almost cried for them. You really root for these two. This was a spur of the moment purchase for me (even though I like Rachel Gibson), and I hardly read the back cover before buying it. BUT I am wholeheartedly recommending it to all romantic fiction fans!
Rating: Summary: See Jane scores with humour and sass! Review: Fanatics of Rachel Gibson will realize that See Jane Score is a continuation of her deviant style of putting polarized opposites together. Wasn't her last effort, Lola Carlyle Reveals All - an unbelievable escapism of love between a swimsuit model and military spy? In See Jane Score, Rachel Gibson dumps the stereotypical fantasy and points out - get real. Her female protagonist, Seattle Times Reporter Jane Alcott is assigned to the native Chinooks Hockey Team on a Sports Tournament coverage. She is immediately repudiated by the team because of their supersitition: women are jinx. Her drab black apparel and small breasts doesn't score well for the notoriously aloof but hunky golden player Luc Martineau either. It is before long they got her boot out - only to change their fickle minds when her departure well-wishing blessed them with a triumph. See Jane Score is immediately a hysterically hilarious romp with Jane's sardonic wits and encounters especially in the locker room. Ms. Gibson 's scrupulous research on hockey sculpts the pulsating games and camaderie between the players through witty jargons, inside jokes as well as the pressure and sweat. In all its slapstick laughter and wicked digs, See Jane Score is also a romance with dimensions. Jane considers herself a fraud being an anonymous sex columinst for a porn mag and a vulnerable girl at heart; Luc fears love as much as he is clueless to taking care of his adolescent sister Marie. Ms. Gibson injects a dose of searing intimacy and honesty towards her characters to make the Opposite + Tension and fairy-tale formula work to her favour. They are refreshingly matured and open about their feelings. Let's not forget the sex either. Ms. Gibson scores a hat-trick on that one too.
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: My first but definitely not my last Rachel Gibson book. Love her style and her sense of humor. Highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: Not R.G.'s best work! Review: I really like Rachel Gibson and I always look forward to her novels, but I was disappointed by "See Jane Score". In reading the romance genre, I am never looking for the ultimate novel, but this book was just plain flat. Frankly, I think Rachel Gibson did her best work in "Simply Irresistible" and has never been the same again (although "Lola Carlyle..." was quite good). I just want a romance novel that has intelligent dialogue, as little cheesiness as possible and likable characters. I read this genre purely for escape and so my expectations are not unrealistic, but if I'm going to pay [money]for a paperback, is it too much to ask that I be entertained???
Rating: Summary: rachel gibson just gets better and better... Review: with every book she writes. I think Gibson's talent lies in her ability to write sweet, light hearted romatic stories where the humor comes across as effortless and does not feel forced at any time. This book is an excellent example of her incredible talent. Jane Alcott's average looks and unasumming personality make her the least likely candidate to catch the eye of professional hockey player Luc Martineau. Luc is a hunky millionare playboy and the star goalie of the Seattle Chinooks, Jane is the short, plain reporter assigned to them.Lead by Luc the players do their best to make Jane's life miserable. They're driven by an irrational fear that a woman's presence might jinx their season (it seems hockey players are an extremely superstitious lot) and just plain ol' machismo. However, they have underestimated pint sized Jane, who gives just as good as she gets, especially to that annoying, sexist, conceited but oh-so delicious Luc. Can Luc get over his predilection for empty headed blonde Amazons and discover the beautiful woman that lies beneath Jane's fuddy duddy exterior? Maybe so but you'll have to read to find out! This is definetely a keeper for me. Gibson knows how to write the ultimate alpha heroes and Jane is no slouch in the character department either. She represents the average modern working woman. She is you and me and boy is it satisfying to watch the average girl finally get her man! Highly recommended!
