Summary: A beautiful, exciting love story
Review:

Master of Temptation was so wonderful and hot, I couldn't put down. Caro and Max were a fabulous couple, the island setting was fresh and beautiful, and the rescue of Isabella had me on the edge of my seat. Thank you for such wonderful stories, Ms. Jordan. They just get better and better.

Summary: More wonderful romance from Nicole Jordan...
Review: ...and I cannot wait for the next one! MASTER OF TEMPTATION has everything I love in a romance novel: a strong (but not obnoxious) heroine who is in no way ordinary, a back story which is compelling (the Guardians) but doesn't get in the way of the love story,
and of course a wonderful hero. Both the hero and the heroine have secrets of their own, which are slowly brought to light by the author, like layers being peeled from a (very good) onion....

But most of all I love the passion and the romance and the steaminess. It's the reason why I will ALWAYS buy her books. I am absolutely hooked on Ms. Jordan's novels, having only discovered them a couple of months ago. I have devoured all her NOTORIOUS series; all are "keepers", and I rarely want to reread a book, but wow!! I will definitely be re-reading hers!

If you want sensuous and heartfelt love and romance, you've come to the right place with this book, and certainly also with the NOTORIOUS series (The Passion, The Seduction, etc.).. I haven't read her other romances [from different subgenres], since I'm only into Regency-era novels, but I can hardly believe they'd be any less wonderful. That's because her writing is consistently satisfying. I can't say enough good things about her novels!

Thanking the author for many happy hours of reading pleasure!

Summary: Max and Caro-SPOILERS
Review: Favorite scene with Caro-
Angry with each other after being forced to marry and Caro refusing him.

Favorite scene with Max-
Playfully pretending to think about selling Caro to the harem.

Together-
Angry with each other after being forced to marry and Caro refusing him.

What did you like about Caro-
Her devotion to her friend and her island and its people.

What didn't you like about Caro-
Not wanting to marry Max because she didn't want to be controlled.

What did you like about Max-
His love for Caro and how he felt about the ones he lost. How he took control of the plan to save a fellow guardian.

What didn't you like about Max-
Not wanting to get involved with Caro and his guardian friends because he was afraid of losing them. Although I can understand his feelings, it went on and on. Angry with Caro for almost getting hurt. Not understanding how she could laugh and joke, and yet, he didn't mind that the others did the same.

Summary: Good but not quite as intense as her other series!
Review: I love Jordan books - several I have read again and again --like Ecstacy!! This was good but perhaps it was the setting or maybe it was Caro - I am just not sure - but this was not the usual 5 star for me. I enjoyed the steamy scenes but even they did not compare to her other series. Mostly I just did not feel an in depth connection with the characters - Max I felt had much more to him than Jordan revealed in this book - I recommend this but would preface it that it does not quite live up to her other series--at least not yet!!

Summary: Master of commanding your attention.
Review: I received this book as a pre-release copy from the publisher and was able to read it over the weekend. "Master of Temptation" proved to be a master at commanding my attention.

On the island of Cyrene, Major Max Leighton brings a wounded soldier for healing, only to find himself a guardian angel in Caro Evers. After one night of passion they part ways, both holding the memory of that night close to their heart. One year later their lives intertwine again, when Max volunteers to assist in planning the escape of Caro's good friend Isabelle.

They quickly fall back into old patterns, seemingly happy with their situation. Caro doesn't want anything beyond the physical, and Max has inner wounds from the war that prevent him from getting to close to another person.

While the ending itself is predictable, the journey there is filled with adventure, danger, self-reflection and above all romance. Can Caro allow herself to feel more for Max than lust? Can Max overcome his fears of abandonment, long enough to realize he has fallen for Caro? Will they realize how much they need each other before it is too late?

"Master of Temptation" was a fun, sensual book that I had a hard time putting down. It is only marked 4 stars because as the reader you know how it will end up, and the formula doesn't differ from many other romances on the shelf. Nicole Jordan does an excellent job creating characters you can appreciate and sincerely want to follow their path, even if it is a well-worn one.

Summary: All I can say is..eh
Review: I'm about half way through this book and lemme tell ya, it's been a struggle. Master of Temptation? I don't think so..Max is neither tempting nor particularly masterful so far. I don't feel like I'm being drawn in to the story at all. It reads more like a laundry list than an actual narrative meant to draw me into the lives of these people. Frankly, I don't care about the main characters. She's mildly interesting because she is so different from other heroines..he's so one dimensional and familiar that he's boring. The dialogue is awful and the sex scenes are worse. At one point, the crucial..ahem..point, he actually says, "Heal me, my angel." I mean, blech. I can only hope that it gets better once the story picks up otherwise I may not finish it.

Summary: intriguing Regency romance
Review: In 1813, Major Maxwell Leighton takes Lieutenant John Yates home to the Mediterranean Isle of Cyrene to die. However, under the healing of Caro Evans, a Guardian of the Sword, John miraculously recovers. Before he returns to England, Mac and Caro make love.

A year later, Max still dreams of Caro and ponders if she would receive him if he journeyed to her island paradise. However, to his elation, Caro is in London to inform Lord Thorne that Lady Isabella Wilde has been captured and probably held in Algiers. As Thorne plans a rescue, Max tries to court Caro, but she rejects his advances though she is extremely attracted to him. The cause to stop tyranny in Europe remains her first love unless Max can persuade her that she can have her quest and him too.

This is an intriguing Regency romance that provides the audience with plenty of suspense through the activities of a pan-Europe group actively thriving to end tyranny. Caro is an interesting lead character as her healing prowess and her mission makes her unique for the period. Readers will appreciate the lead male who is willing to go to the max even joining her group if accepted to keep Caro at his side. Though acceptance of the existence of the Guardian of the Sword group is somewhat difficult, fans will receive a strong suspense tale filled with fine characters.

Summary: In a word: Ghastly.
Review: In a word: Ghastly.

It took me three days to plow through it, which says it all. When I like a romance, and get caught up in it, I read it in one sitting-even if I have to stay up all night to do so.

I really enjoyed her last book, THE LOVER (which I understand was a polished and slightly altered republication), so I bought this and then attempted to read it. If this what she's writing now, I can only say that I will not be buying any future novels by her. Writers usually get better as they practice their craft, but this novel was by no mean anywhere near as well written as the other books I've read by Jordan. It was a big disappointment.

As for specifics: The characters are interesting, and I quite liked the plot, but the dialogue is SO BAD it made me cringe. I mean truly atrocious, painfully bad in both its inner monologues and their actual speech. No one talks like that. No one thinks like that. To call it "purple prose" would be kind. Too kind. The whole time I was reading I couldn't stop thinking of Gilbert Blythe's comment to Anne Shirley in ANNE OF GREEN GABLES (that no one talks like the characters in her story). It's hard to enjoy a romance when you either cringe or laugh at all the wrong moments. As for the sex scenes, I had to flip past them. This book could be used as cheat sheet for euphemisms (some of which are too silly to even be considered, especially as the heroine is supposed to be medically and scientifically trained and experienced!).

I'd advise giving this one a miss, unless you're able to overlook all the overblown phrasing, and the rather extreme employment of euphemisms (or if, forgive me, you like this sort of prose).

Summary: Good reading...
Review: Major Maxwell "Max" Leighton is a brilliant military tactician. In the year 1813, during the Peninsular War, Max went to an isle in the Mediterranean, Cyrene, on a mission of mercy. One of his lieutenants had lost a leg and was dying. Caro Evers nursed the lieutenant back to health and lost her heart to Max. Max and Caro spent one lovely time together before he went back into battle.

In late 1814, Caro travels to London to seek out Christopher, Viscount Thorne. Caro and Christopher are part of a secret service, the Guardians of the Sword, based on Cyrene. The Guardians' leader, Sir Gawain Olwen, need Christopher to help on a mission. It seems that "Bella" has been taken captive by Barbary corsairs (pirates) and enslaved in Algiers. Christopher is to travel to Algiers and locate her position.

Max just happens to be with Christopher, his close friend, when Caro finds him. Of course, Max returns to Cyrene to help plan the rescue. Caro is not only worried that Max will learn about the Guardians, but also about her reaction to seeing him again.

*** A fast paced book with an intricate plot that I cannot help but enjoy. However, there are too many adult scenes and it detracts from the story, itself. I finally reached the point of skimming the adult scenes just to get on with the plot. The love scenes became to seem as filler material. Overlooking that though, the story is excellent and the writing superb. ***

Summary: Wow -- wonderful!
Review: Master of Temptation is a cut way above the typical historical romance. Wonderful love story, great characters with an emotionally scarred hero and strong but vulnerable heroine, unique setting, intriguing plot, edge-of-your-seat pacing, heart-tugging emotion, excellent writing, intense sensual lovescenes, and a superb ending. One of my favorites by Jordan.
