Rating: Summary: A story worth waiting for Review: In order to take down terrorist Crispin Hauer, Chance Mackenzie must track down his daughter, Sunny Miller, and use her to lure the terrorist out into the open. Wielding a great deal of power and influence, he intercepts her at an airport posing as a charter pilot. Used to playing the game and living out many roles, Chance finds himself stunned by the power Sunny comes to wield over him through her strength of will and positive attitude. Despite the myth surrounding the Mackenzies, which started years ago, A Game of Chance is a well-written story. While Chance succeeds at living up to the expectations of readers, the main delight of this story is Sunny Miller who is the cause of his long-awaited fall. Sunny is an admirable heroine whose dark heritage is first a cause for suspicion and then a source of relativity between her and Chance. She refuses, throughout the story, to play second fiddle to what she suspects are Chance's true domineering and protective tendencies. And despite the fact that Chance does play the game well, Sunny suspects almost from the beginning, that he is hiding his true nature. Linda Howard seems to have faced a great deal of pressure living up to the expectations her audience had for Chance but she deals with them well. Her success lies in the strength of her characters and they seem to truly drive the story even though the tone is edgy enough to retain the reader's attention when the showdown takes place and Sunny and Chance are forced to confront all their fears.
Rating: Summary: Another MacKenzie Bites the Dust! Review: I, like others, did not like the fact that Chance lied and used Sunny. Especially when she most likely would have helped him if he had only told her what he was up to. Even though I don't like what Chance did, I still love the MacKenzie family. I REALLY hope that Ms. Howard continues writing about this wonderful family. She's got me wondering what the next generation will be like and what they will end up doing with their lives. *I have to read Mike and Josh's stories, please make reprints soon! I feel like I'm missing important pieces to a puzzle.
Rating: Summary: Superb!! Wish for more Mackenzie novels Review: I also have waited years for the final book about Chance. I just finshed it last weekend and wanted it to continue. I wish that it could have been about another 50 pages, but I know that author's and publisher's have time constraints. Chance and Sunny were great together. The tension sizzled thoughout the book. I only wish that Linda Howard would write about yeh Nick! My two favorites along with chance were Zane who I read first and then Wolf. Continue being great Linda!! Love your books.
Rating: Summary: linda in georgia Review: THIS BOOK IS THE BEST SO FAR IN THAT MACKENZIE SERIES AND AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED IT IS IN THE TOP 10 BOOKS FOR 'ALL' READERS OF NOVELS WHO WANT TO BE TOUCHED AND ENTERTAINED. LINDA HOWARD PROVES ONCE AGAIN THAT SHE IS THE GREATEST. THE PLOT SHOWS IMAGINATION AND KEEPS THE READER ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEAT.
Rating: Summary: disappointed Review: I waited years for this book to be written and I didn't feel what I felt when I read about Wolf, Joe or Zane. I really wanted the book to bring to me what I felt when I first read about Wolf. That he was man of character, worth fighting for. This protrayal of Chance wasn't romantic, he didn't really fight for his woman. I missed that very, very much. I enjoyed the last chapters where Sunny met the family, then I felt the MacKenzie magic. P.S. I know you said no more books, but What about Nick? She could be the most dangerous MacKenzie of them all.
Rating: Summary: Chance is a Jerk Review: I can not beleive that Chance is being forgiven by everyone. He was a real jerk, and I did not see what redeeming character he had, or where an explanation came in for him to be forgiven for deliberatly lying once he knew Sonny was a good guy. I think she more than proved herself, and do not understand why she was not treated more as a partner, and less like a pawn. He has nothing on his brothers. This was a fairly big disapointment for as long as I have been waiting for his story. The best parts of the story were when Chance was visiting Zane. I would love to have more of the kids stories, we have to have Nicks!
Rating: Summary: A couple of more chapters were needed Review: A great read! However, the "pardon" from Sunny was too easy, Chance deserved a good sweat, duty is fine, but she did not deserve the way he used her. The last two chapters were wonderful, the meeting between Wolf and Chance made me teary. Well handled. Met Ms. Howard at a book signing in Borders in New York, she says the McKenzies are done, but please Nick deserves at least a Christmas Novelette. And, Margretta, Sunny's sister, poor woman, a suffering shadow, also deserves a book, after all she is not a McKenzie and it will be chance, pardon the pun to make her happy.
Rating: Summary: Writing Great, But Chance Not Likeable Review: I absolutely adore Linda Howard's books; she's one of the very best in contemporary women's fiction, however, I found her hero, Chance MacKenzie, in A GAME OF CHANCE to be a bit too overbearing and dominant. The book starts off with details of Chance's growing up and present circumstances. I liked the history, but could have done without the "baby talk" that included his niece.Chance first encounters the heroine, Sunny, in the airport and although he believes her to be completely disreputable, he immediately formulizes plans to sleep with her to further his mission. At this point, he slipped a notch in my opinion. As the book progresses, Ms.Howard writes fantastic love scenes, but I always found Chance to be way too arrogant in his treatment of the heroine. I feel he mistreated her, particularly at times when she was trying to secure rescue for the both of them: The heroine had attempted to find a way out of the location that they had been stranded in, and instead of pretending indifference or curiousity, Chance became angered to the point I almost found him abusive. This is the final book in the MacKenzie series by Ms. Howard. In my opinion, you would be much better served by reading another instead of this one for the full flavor of this family.
Rating: Summary: Mr Perfect Review: I have read almost everything Linda Howard has written and I must say that she definitely deals with reality and is just terrific. Unlike one critic who viewed her writing as unrealistic because she used the "f*" word. My advice to that critic is to get herself a grimms fairy tale book and read it constantly and keep living in her world and never wake up from it. Heaven only knows if that word it the worse thing she has to deal with, she is well and truly blessed.
Rating: Summary: Good Game Review: It's always hard to live up to everyone's fantasies, and that's Linda Howard's problem here in A Game of Chance. All of her fans have their own ideas of how his story should be told - and you know you can't win them all. However, Linda as usual, writes her way. Her males are the ultimate alpha. A lot of readers/reviewers were upset that Chance would con her, and then use her as bait and put her life in danger. LH's men are always pretty single minded - they are warriors who defend...their country, their mates. But they don't compromise - and Chance was someone who couldn't compromise, even if her felt he loved Sunny. I liked her character, I've always loved Chance. I loved the background sections of him, the motorcycle passage was awesome! And the ending discussion he has with Wolf made me well up. The sex was good - but with Linda sometimes I'm expecting something really, really, hot. It did end quickly. I would have been more than happy with another 100 or so pages. Yes, Sunny could have made him grovel more. But as I recall, Carolyn didn't make Joe grovel much and he had her arrested, or at least suspected of treason. Not much different. It's almost sad that the MacKenzie stories have ended - I've enjoyed them so much. But as long as Linda keeps writing. I'll keep reading. Sometimes more than once.
