Rating: Summary: Funny & witty but not my favorite Crusie Review: Tess, a free spirit and recently out of work school teacher, is talked into posing as an uptight and materialistic lawyer's fiancée so that he can land a plumb account and assure partnership in the law firm he's employed by. When Tess's apartment in the slums is vandalized she's left with no choice but to temporarily move into the sexy lawyer's fancy house. They fall in love despite the fact that the only thing that they have in common is that neither are the marrying kind. I was a little disappointed with this one. First off, where were the dogs?! There was a cat named Angela but she was pretty much a non-character who only appeared for a scene or two and didn't do much of anything. Bummer! The story was witty and sometimes really funny but Tess and Nick didn't thrill me. I thought they were too extreme. He was too caught up his career and appearances and she was too do-goody and caught up in the past. Both learned to compromise a bit but I left the book feeling that they didn't resolve their major differences and that they still had a lot of battles to fight out before they'd live in peace (if ever). I thought this plot worked more effectively in Crusie's THE CINDERELLA DEAL. Still STRANGE BEDPERSONS was a good read and I'd definitely recommend it because Crusie's wicked sense of humor carried the story for me.

Rating: Summary: Still Works Well Review: The characters in this story are a bit dated: he's a Republican yuppie lawyer aiming to be made a partner in his law firm, and she's a commune-raised, out-of-work, liberal educator. The book was published in 1994 so that explains it. But even so, this is another funny and entertaining book by Ms. Cruisie, with sharply drawn characters and crisp dialogue. I intially wasn't drawn to Tess Newhart - she's in her mid-thirties and still living in a thrift-store-furnished apartment, getting involved with protests, etc. My first reaction was "grow up already". But the more I read the more I liked her and felt in sympathy with her. Nick Jamieson is more than the standard smooth-talking lawyer he appears to be, even if it seems as though making partner is his sole goal in life. There is some classic rapid-fire dialogue between Tess and Nick, and the "conversations" Nick has with his secretary Christine are worth the price of the book alone. Secondary plots concern an unsuitable romance between Tess and Nick's best friends (a retired chorus girl and a well-heeled partner in the law firm), and a possible case of literary plagerism. Tess and Nick's relationship is both humorous and romantic, their sexual encounters are inventive and sensual, and the secondary characters round out the story nicely. This is a book worth finding.
Rating: Summary: It's still a favorite Review: This book may be a little dated but this couple is so entertaining that I find myself reading this book again and again. The dialogue is very funny and it is not only the main characters Tess & Nick who are witty but the supporting characters of Christine and Park just crack me up. The dinner scene at the Levee with Park's parents is one of the most comical moments I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: 4+ due to the humor :) Great quick read. Review: This is a very short but well written Romance Story. The story as usual has all of the funny situations and very funny characters that Jennifer Crusie is famous for writing into her stories. Tess and Nick had dated for a while but Tess ends up becoming so fed up with his "stiffness" in all situations that she and he stop seeing each other. He on the other hand thought she was a bit too carefree in where she wanted to do "certain" things. But, when he needs a fiancé for a work assignment no one else comes to mind. While it was a quick read it was a lot of fun. If you need to kill about 3 hours on an afternoon and you want to laugh out load at some of the situations this books for you
