Summary: Excellent reading
Review: While this might not be the best Garwood book that you can buy, it still is among the best historicals you can get. A wonderful book by all other measures! The story will capture you, the characters extremely well-drawn and portrayed, (even if they are a little at odds with their times) and the dialogue will never bore you.

Julie Garwood has an amazing knack for writing in such a way that the reader FEELS every emotion that the hero/heroine go through.. you will feel the heart-ache, the pain, the joy, the love and the pleasure while reading, with every word, and in every page.

If you have not read anything of Garwood yet, do yourself a favor and get "The Bride" it's probably her best book written so far.

Summary: My ALL TIME Favorite 8^)
Review: From the moment this book hit the shelves it was destined to be my favorite "Garwood" Judith is one of those heroines (like most Garwoods) that have you smiling all day long as you read her adventures and her reactions. Ian is described as being sooooo handsome (sigh) and sexy, you literally feel the heat between the two of them coming off of the pages. I too loved her friendship with Mary Francis and the dialogue between the two of them at times had me in stiches. Overall I enjoyed this immensely sometimes it really depends on in which order you read your Garwood books I was lucky to have come early on in her writing career, so I got the benefit of savoring each character as she wrote them ... if you want to read something that makes your "heart" smile pick this one up it's a treasure... and Thankfully "not" a SECRET anymore.

Happy Reading

Summary: Great!
Review: This was my first Julie Garwood but Not my last. I love it! It was really fun to read a character driven novel instead so some insipid atempt at mystery or suspense. The characters provide all the action you will ever need. Just their personalitits are great. Anyway I loved this Highland yarn. I loved the characters, all of them. And the book never deteriorated into one of those stupid misunderstanding type plots. The characters actually talk to each other. All in all far better than I expected.

Summary: Oh how I love this book!
Review: I read this book almost a year ago and I still think of the characters often. Sometimes when you read a book you can't remember the character's names a week later. Judith and Iain as well as the secondary characters captured my heart. This is a story about love, honor, and friendship set in the Highlands. What more could one ask for? This was my first J. Garwood book and she quickly became one of my favorites.

Summary: Simply sublime!
Review: The Maitland clan are inhospitable, unfriendly, and downright rude .... just like their Scottish laird, Ian. Judith (our loyal heroine) is beautiful, proud, stubborn, .... and English; wills and customs clash when Judith and Ian meet, (and dare I say our heroine wins in the end? ... you tell me!), this adventure will keep you captivated until the very end. Another winner from Julie Garwood, incorporates an excellent storyline, interesting characters, and enough romance to keep you warm on a cold winters night. A book you can and will read more than twice! In two words: simply sublime.

Summary: You can never go wrong with a Julie Garwood book!
Review: This book was a EXCELLENT! A wonderful blend of humor & romance. Garwood has great character and story developement as well as some steamy love scenes. I love how Garwood focuses not only on the hero/heroine's relationship, but the touching realtionship of friends and family as well. She hooks you in from the very beginning. The opening scene between Judith and Francis Catherine had me in stiches! I wish they had a scene with Francis Catherine's father and Judith when they were adults. It was very sweet how he interacted with the two as children. Definitely recommend! Julie Garwood is one of my favorite authors.

Summary: chalk it up to the sequel to make this book look bad
Review: I had the miss-fortune of reading Ransom, the sequel, before reading this book (im one of those people who has to read in sequence)which inevitably ruined part of the plot and made me less likely to enjoy this book as much as I did Ransom. Dont get me wrong, I love this book, however Ransom was slightly more enjoyable(for me, perhaps becuase it was my first Garwood, but you may judge differently). I loved the charachters in this book, they are well developed and the plot is very exciting, while slightly scandalous, this is one of those books that cant be put down and demands to be read cover to cover.

Summary: Warm and very funny
Review: Some books just draw you in from the first page. This was one of those stories. The warmth and humor of the main characters as well as the supporting cast just made it a fine read. The sense of their responses to situations being true to their time was very refreshing to me. Not just a graft from twentieth century morality and womens lib. Now I have to find the sequel!

Summary: Utterly charming characters!
Review: I just finished reading this book for the second time. I am just drawn to the story and to the characters. This novel was the first one I read by Julie Garwood and it prompted me to read many more. I loved everything about the story, especially the characters. They were all the kind you root for, even the secondary characters. Both the hero and heroine had faults, but were both honorable and deserving of happiness and when they finally got together I had a great big smile on my face! Definitely a great read and re-read.

Summary: One of her best!
Review: This book is one of the best books I've read! This story has passion, mystery and a touch of realness. Ian is the perfect hero and Judith the perfect heroine. This is a battle of wills between a Scot and a pretty English-raised woman. There is a lot of funny moments and the friendship between Judith and Frances-Catherine is touching. I loved this book and anyone who reads it will more than likely love it too!
