Summary: Could not put it down
Review: I really enjoyed the book. The story line was original and I enjoyed the way Serita and Mykal met and fell in love. I also enjoyed the love scenes.

Keep up the good work Beverly. I have not read a book from you yet that I did not enjoy. I hope in the near future there will be a story about Walter and Shirley.

Summary: fun war on drugs romantic thriller
Review: In Detroit, Michigan, Sarita Grayson receives an eviction notice that will shut down her outreach gym as the city is selling the abandoned warehouse she has used. Realtor Fletcher Harris offers to fund the down payment towards the building purchase if Sarita picks up a package for him. She agrees, but all hell breaks loose when undercover architect and former special forces soldier (don't ask - read) Mykal Chandler breaks up the action and catches Sarita. She escapes.

The next day Sarita's "foster brother" Saint offers her a deal that will enable her to own the building if she agrees to marry his half-brother for one year as he needs a wife of convenience to keep women away from him. When Sarita meets her groom, they recognize one another from last night's activities. She has no choice but to be Mykal's temporary spouse as he runs the NIA war against drugs in Detroit for that is the only way he can keep her safe from gangsters who marked her last night. Neither Sarita nor Mykal expected this arrangement to lead to love.

Though the "sanctioning" of the NIA violations of individual rights by the Detroit Mayor and the FBI seems wrong fans will appreciate this terse romantic suspense. The story line moves forward at a fast pace from the moment Mykal and Sarita meet. However, the key to the tale is the cast led by the fine lead couple and supported by his two half-brothers and her friend. Readers will enjoy this war on drugs romantic thriller.

Summary: The Bomb as usual!
Review: Initially I thought I was going to be disappointed because this wasn't a historical romance but I was pleasantly surprised by how good this book was. I should have know to always expect an excellent story from Beverly.

I also loved the way she made the hero and heroine in this novel the descendants of heroes and heroines of her previous novels. I can't wait for her next book.

Summary: Excellent book!
Review: Once again Beverly Jenkins has written an excellent book...I am a big fan of her historical novels and did not know whether I would like her contemporary writing, but she did not let me down! Ms. Jenkins is truly an outstanding author, I love her characters and Mykal Chandler was no exception. I can't wait for her next book.

Summary: The Edge of Midnight
Review: Sarita Grayson is the head of a seriously broken down, yet vitally needed, community center. Unfortunately, the property the center sits on is slated to be auctioned off by the city in a few days. It doesn't matter if the final price is seventeen thousand dollars or seventeen cents, Sarita doesn't have it. She has already poured what little money she has into the center and called in all of her favors. Seeing no alternative, she makes a deal with the devil, actually a gang banger, to save the center.

Mykal Chandler is the head of a covert government agency that is working to eradicate the illegal drug industry in Detroit. He's preparing a sting when he catches a mysterious woman, Sarita, in the middle of stealing the diamonds from his target. He's attracted to her beauty and her fire, but he has a job to do. One thing leads to another, and bullets fly, leaving Mykal with a superficial wound. No one gets the best of Mykal Chandler--no matter how intelligent, how beautiful, or how intriguing.

In THE EDGE OF MIDNIGHT, Beverly Jenkins has done a masterful job of stepping out of the world of historical romance and into the world of contemporary romance. From the first shot, Ms. Jenkins jumpstarts the romance between Mykal and Sarita then captivates the reader by building on the suspense, sensuality and sexual tension. She definitely has another winner on her hands.

Title: A Deal with the Devil

Beverly Jenkins takes a break from historical romance novels to show her versatility with a modern suspense romance in The Edge of Midnight. She does not disappoint in providing fun characters in Sarita Grayson and Mykal Chandler. The story tackles the effects of poverty and drugs in the inner city and one very determined young lady to make a difference in her neighborhood.

Poor as a church mouse, Sarita Grayson is the director of the community center located on the lower eastside of Detroit. When it looks as if she will lose the center, she takes on a dangerous assignment given to her by a small time drug dealer. Extremely handsome and rich, Mykal Chandler is the handsome brother of the Mayor of Detroit. He is an architect by trade, but his nighttime activities are more dangerous. While out on their respective secret missions Sarita and Mykal have their first explosive encounter. Their second meeting, arranged by Sarita's friend and Mykal's half brother Saint, is a life changing encounter. After accepting his proposition, Mykal gives Sarita the opportunity to see herself as a beautiful woman and awakens a passion in her that she did not know she possessed.

The characters in Ms Jenkins' novel are fun. Their actions are genuine and the conversations very real. Ms Jenkins has a way of incorporating conflict resolution and problem solving into the story without making the female character appear weak and cowardly. If you have never read a romance by Beverly Jenkins, then this is a good one to start. However, I would recommend getting your hands on every historical romance novel she has written; you will not be disappointed.

Summary: WOW !!!!
Review: This book keeps you on the edge. This is the second book that I've read by Beverly Jenkins. The first was Night Song which I read years ago and truly appreciated the history lesson. The Edge of Midnight is a beautiful story of both love and intrigue. I highly recommend this book.
