Summary: Great book..
Review: I usually don't read historicals, but I have read the Dark Hunter series written by this author under the name Sherrilyn Kenyon and wanted to try her books under Kinley MacGregor.

I was pleasantly surprised, the book had all the trademark style of the writer- humor, redemption, and an unforgettable hero and heroine. Sin was great- handsome, intelligent, and honorable. Callie was the perfect heroine for this tortured hero. The story was pretty good and the setting rang true for me, unlike in other historicals where you don't get that sense of time and history. This, as well as the other characters and the fast-paced dialogue were all well done. My only complaint in the book was that at times Sin was too fatalistic. He never once cut himself a break and really allowed himself to believe in himself or in Callie. Lucky for him, the heroine was one patient woman!

All in all, I really enjoyed the book and will be on the look-out for the other McAllister brother's stories.

Summary: Amazing
Review: I usually hate romance novels, but Kinley MacGregor is an amazing writer. This story made me happy for days after I finished and I am now on my path to owning all of her books. If you're being forced into the romance reading sector for whatever reason, check this author out. You won't mind so much then. I also recommend A Pirate of Her Own. The title is cheesy, but it's a great book.

Summary: A rare find
Review: It takes a truly exceptional book in this day and age to really touch my heart and this book does it. By the third chapter, I knew that this would be one of those rare classic books like Jackson Rule, Wolf and the Dove, Whitney My Love or Keeper of the Dream. The kind that you put on your shelf and reread over and over again. Lord Sin was the first real hero I've read in a long time. He rises above his past and with the help of his brothers and the kind, carves a spot for himself. He is a man respected and feared by everyone. He wants nothing more than what he has until the day his best friend, the king of England makes him promise to wed Caledonia to stop the trouble of the unknown Raider in her clan.

Neither Callie nor Sin expect anything from the marriage. Sin expects to annul it as soon as possible while Callie true to her upbringing promises to uphold the church law and be a dutiful wife. But it's not duty that makes her welcome her husband, it's his strong, loving heart.

I think I fell in love with Sin while reading Claiming the Highlander, but I had no idea just how wonerful and touching his story would be. Thank you Kinley for writing this book. I have been telling everyone I know to read it. It is filled with lovable, real characters who I can't wait to meet in future books. I saw that Ewan and Simon's books are next and I'm counting down the days to them both.

Summary: fans of Scottish historical romances will enjoy
Review: King Henry II asks his most loyal friend Lord Sin to marry a Scottish hostage in order to uncover the identity of the Raider causing trouble between the two countries. Sin prefers to decline because he loathes his Scottish heritage having been sold into slavery in the Holy Land by a knight. He also knows his background excludes him from ever marrying. However, he agrees to do just that only for his friend Henry.

Sin's bride Callie MacNeely agrees to a marriage in order to protect her youngest brother. Surprisingly with his reputation Callie observes kind deeds performed by her spouse as they journey to her keep in Scotland where her people treat Sin with scorn, but he handles each threat with disdain and superior fighting skills. When he rescues townsfolk from a raging bull, the locals accept him as befitting a hero. However, the unimagined has happened as he loves Callie, but has no idea how to deal with this as no one has come close to his soul in years. Soon he must choose between his friend the king and his cherished wife.

Though, the solution to Sin's dilemma is too easily resolved, this remains a strong period piece that fans of Scottish historical romances will enjoy. The story line contains plenty of action and enough tidbits to showcase a bygone era yet insures the audience is able to see inside the souls of the lead couple, especially that of Sin. As with CLAIMING THE HIGHLANDER, Kinley MacGregor releases a delightful tale that the audience will rate highly.

Summary: Ooh, I'd love to "sin" w/ Sin anyday! :)
Review: Kinley Macgregor is my favorite romance author. Her books are filled with great characters, minor subplots (major ones are a pet peeve of mine), and hot sex scenes. I usually read her books in one sitting because they are too good to put down. This one was no exception.

Let's start by saying, Sin is HOT. For you ladies out there who love a tortured hero, Sin is your man. I mean, you couldn't get more tortured (emotionally and physically) than Sin. Callie is his perfect counterpart. She is not haughty, condescending, or frigid. She is a warm, loving, but human woman who loves Sin for all the right reasons. They are totally perfect for one another.

If I had to criticize one thing *SPOILER AHEAD*, I would take exception to Sin being a virgin. I don't doubt the man so abused by life would be a virgin at age 30. I do think the intial sex scenes between him and Callie would have been a bit more...exciting. I mean, this guy has gone 30 years without having sex. Don't you think that first time would be a bit explosive?! The love scenes get hotter as the book progresses, but I found the first few a little tame for Kinley's usual style.

Other than that tiny criticism, this was a perfect read! I highly recommend it to everyone!

Summary: It will break your heart many times over
Review: Kinley MacGregor's unflinchingly darker tale on the outcast Sin McAllister has shades of her popular Fantasy Lover with a hardened cynical hero and a sass of a Scottish redhead, Callie, as his defending healer. An advisor of King Henry II, Sin swears fealty to the king who rescued him from the grisly clutches of the Saracen when he was ordered to assassinate him. His Scottish Highlander of a father rejected him in childhood because of his mixed English blood; his countess of a mother ostracized him because he reminded her of her shame. He was brutally thrusted to King Stephan as a political pawn by his father. Sin is a heartbreaking creature scarred and deprived of love until he is dictated by King Henry to marry the captured spirited Callie MacNeely and set off to her native land.

While many have feared him, Callie sees a man with a haunted soul but an innate heart of gold. She weds him and is stunned by her growing admiration and love for him despite his reluctance to surrender. For Sin has a hidden agenda: he is to capture the Scottish rebels and the leader who may be Callie's brother Dermot. Ties of honor clashes with treachery from the anarchists - and Sin has to choose between his life and love.

Born In Sin is a lacerating romance as the tormented pasts of Sin is unraveled through cutting betrayals of his parents and his strength to surmount the abuses. Ms. MacGregor is not afraid to bare the heart of an executioner but also the nightmares, regrets and emotional turmoil that Sin shoulders. Callie's deep attachments for Sin is genuinely touching as it reveals through coaxing patience, promises to weather the storms with him and an ultimate battle to rescue her man. It is at once magical and bittersweet when Sin finally learns of forgiveness from his stepmother, awe from his brothers as well as the magnitude of Callie's love. This is a romance with surprising depths and poignancy. This powerful definition of love involving sacrifices for a flawed discriminated man will break your heart many times over.

Summary: cute & funny
Review: Love this series, but:

The character traits (they can't love) of the leading males seem to take up most of the plot - where we could be experiencing more of the actual story. In this, Sin became too pathetic. I was also suprised at how he won over the clan saving the village - okkkayyy. Too easy.

All in all though, her books are so cute & funny I will keep reading them.

Summary: I tired of the hero's cliched, overdone, cruel past.
Review: My goodness. Did ANYTHING even remotely nice, pleasant or happy occur in Sin's childhood? Anything at all? A kind word or gesture from anyone? Perhaps he once saw a pretty rainbow and experienced a fleeting moment of joy? Apparently not. According to the author, Sin's life was worse than sheer hell from the moment he was born until the moment he met Callie. Although I always think the theme of the wounded hero afraid to love is a good one, this author took that theme to the extreme. At one point we're told that he had never been hugged by a woman, for heaven's sake! On almost every other page there's yet another example of Sin's mother, father, step-mother, slavemasters mistreating him in ways that stretch credulity, to say the least. I expected to hear that he had to sleep on hot coals every night, with his eyelids taped open. Give me a break! Midway through the book, I didn't feel sympathy for Sin. Instead, I had to keep from laughing at the ridiculously unbelievable cruelty he had suffered. Not only that, but Callie's character lacked any depth or definition. The other characters were painted with equally broad strokes. My advice: when reading this author's books, don't buy them--check them out at your local library for free.
