Rating: Summary: Passion, mayhem and serious laughter.... Review: I loved this book, not just for the phallic water tower, not just for the wickedly wonderful sex and not just for the dead-on zingers--I loved it because it's emotionally true. You really feel for these characters, and in the end, you're rooting for them with all your heart. Wisecracks aside, it's a fabulous story of a woman's journey by an author who seems to outdo herself with each successive book.
Rating: Summary: Crusie just keeps getting better! Review: You'd think Jennifer Crusie would have had a hard time topping CRAZY FOR YOU, which was practically the perfect book, but she's done it again. Funny, fascinating, impossible-to-put-down. Crusie never disappoints.
Rating: Summary: Run right out & get this book [or add it to your cart now]! Review: Jennifer Crusie is a funny, wonderful, witty, inventive, thoroughly enjoyable storyteller. Read the reviews below this one for more thoughtful details. Each one said it beautifully and I admit I can't say it better myself, but I HAD to add my praise. If you're a fan of clever writing and the humor to be found in real life, this book cannot be missed. It was worth every penny spent and then some!
Rating: Summary: JUST LIE BACK AND ENJOY IT, AS PHIN WOULD SAY. Review: What a wonderfully wicked book! I want to go to Phin's University of Sexual Instruction, with the giant phallic water tower, the great adjustable shower head, the pantiless pool games, the fear-of-discovery fantasy. He's a delight, and poor Sophie doesn't stand a chance of resisting him, and she deserves every bit of the fun he offers her, even if being with Phin would mean having the mother-in-law from hell and living in this little, oddball town. There's a fun murder mystery, all those nasty little complications that come with family and too many hilarious one-liners to even discuss. (Watch for the Jell-O line -- it's one of the best.) I wish I didn't have to wait a year for the next book.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: It was a long and disappointing wait for "Welcome to Temptation". Keeping up with the cast of thousands in this book was exhausting, and I could not develop any affection for the secondary characters as was the case in "Crazy for You". On the plus side, I loved the Dusty Springfield "soundtrack" as I did Fleetwood Mac in "Crazy for You". I wouldn't say "skip it", (Phin is hot!), but it is disappointing after the superb "Crazy for You".
Rating: Summary: Crusie's best yet! Review: I've been looking forward to reading Welcome to Tempation for months and it did not disappoint. I knew during the drive into Temptation that I was going to love the visit. How can you not love a town with a Water Tower? This book made me laugh out load more times than I can count! It's sexy, funny and smart. Treat yourself to this book - you will be glad you gave into Temptation!
Rating: Summary: Her best yet. Review: It's fun to watch this author get better with every book. WELCOME TO TEMPTATION's got the best combination of Crusie's signature elements--fun, sex, great characters, and a mystery. I loved the mayor hero, Phin, and especially his campaign slogan--"More of the Same." Ha! Crusie's got a sly wit, a wonderful way with words, and the heart of a romantic. I recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Welcome to Temptation Review: Pretty good. I enjoyed the plot and the characters, although I thought that Ms. Crusie had a little too many subplots/side stories. Not as good as "Tell Me Lies" or "Crazy For You" but an altogether enjoyable book.
Rating: Summary: Sassy, sexy, with a murder ending that had me LOL Review: Yes, the ending was one of the funniest, cleverest murder mystery endings I've ever read. I couldn't believe the laugh-out-loud twists and ingenuity of it. Absolutely fresh and unexpected. The rest was vintage Crusie. I am a big fan of this author already, but this is my favorite book of hers to date. Loved the characters. The romance angle was funny and clever and so so sexy. Oh, I want to learn to play pool like THIS! If you adore sizzle between believable, human characters, snappy, smart-aleck prose, and a murder that is darkly hilarious, this is the book for you. Buy it now; you won't be sorry!
Rating: Summary: Crusie is the reigning queen of contemporary romance! Review: Jennifer Crusie is in a class by herself when it comes to contemporary romance. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt more than once while I was reading "Welcome to Temptation". Who ever heard of a funny autopsy scene? This book has one that should become a classic. I'm absolutely awed by Crusie's ability to write a sex scene that is incredibly hot but still makes you laugh out loud. This book works on so many levels - the characters are memorable, the dialogue is snappy, the plot is interesting and the core relationship sizzles. The two main characters are hysterical contrasts. Sophie is the daughter of a con artist who has come to Temptation to make a film with her sister that may or may not be porn. Phin is the unenthusiastic mayor of Temptation who has an election on the horizon and a gaggle of nosy relatives and neighbors intent upon scrutinizing his every move. Both of them recognize the dangers of a relationship between them - she's bound to get hurt in a relationship with a "townie" and he's got to worry about the new anti-porn sentiment in town - but since Sophie's only going to be there for a few days, a light affair seems manageable. Sure enough, Sophie's stay lasts longer than anticipated and things get complicated. There's a dead body to deal with, a daughter to appease, a brother to pacify, and a mother to avoid. Funny and sweet, this is a book to savor.
