Summary: Beware Bait And Switch
Review: I loved this book and I am a huge Lisa Kleypas fan. I recommend it without hesitation! Grant Morgan is more like a modern homicide cop than a lord or a duke or a rake or whatever they call them. When Grant finds the beautiful but spoiled and cruel Vivien unconscious down by the docks he takes her home, determined to save her life but also to make her pay for lying about him and spreading rumors in society that he once made an ungentlemanly approach to her virtue!

The set up is wonderful, and the follow through amazing. Grant soon finds that Vivien does not remember who she is or what she was doing by the docks -- was someone trying to kill her? Finding her killer and keeping her safe soon force Grant to feel more and more protective of his beautiful and helpless guest.

One major complaint (stop here if you don't want to know the full story.) Early on, we here an awful lot about how bold and sexy and uninhibited Vivien is -- she was really more of a call girl than a society beauty. We keep hoping for a real clash of wills between the sexy, outrageos courtesan and the hard, upright lawman. But at the last moment Lisa Kleypas (who is a wonderful writer and an incredible talent) seems to lose her nerve and pull a classic "bait and switch." It seems the lovely victim in Grant's bed is not REALLY the most notorious courtesan in London, but her innocent twin sister fresh from the country.

Oh please! The distressing thing is that letting VIVIEN be the heroine was so obviously the right choice -- but I suspect Lisa Kleypas thought the romance readership wouldn't let her get away with it. Romance heroines "must" be virgins -- sigh.

Dear Lisa, next time break the rules! You can do it if anyone can. We're all with you, because you're the best there is!

Summary: Brilliant as usual!!
Review: Sigh....Yet another excellent book from Lisa! She is one of the few authors that can capture the male point-of-view so eloquently.
I was so in love with Grant that I didn't want the story to end. It was the perfect amount of chemistry and sexual tension between the characters.
I highly recommend this book and also "Lady Sophia's Lover". In that book we read about Sir Ross Cannon. I don't know which one was better!

Summary: Almost perfect
Review: This is probably the best book Kleypas has ever written. If you've never read her before start here. The characters are so clearly written, the dialogue sparkles. The only real problem is the villian could be stronger and it wrapped up a little too quickly. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: First book by Lisa and not my last....
Review: I was glad that I read the reviews and decided to try Lisa Kleypas. This book was wonderful! It was entertaining and kept me reading well into the night to finish. Highly recommend this book. I'm on my next Kleypas book, will let you know what I think.

Summary: A great romance!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end! Engaging, warm, and romantic. I couldn't put it down!

Summary: Simply Superb!
Review: I thought the story started slowly and it seemed to drag on, but happily picked up. The ending was pleasantly satisfying.

Be sure to read the book two, Lady Sophia's Lover and book three, Worth Any Price.

Summary: This romance did not disappoint!
Review: The delicious Grant Morgan must solve the attempted murder of a courtesan -- or is she? Vivian has lost her memory, and she seems too innocent to be the courtesan Grant knows her to be. As he seeks to protect her and find the would-be killer, Grant begins to fall in love with her despite what she is.

This book has more of a mystery than the other two books in the series (this is the first). It also introduces us to Ross Cannon, the hero of book 2. This romance is particularly interesting because of the amnesia and Vivian's supposed career. She can't quite believe that she is who he says she is either. Despite all the uncertainites, they begin to fall in love. Vivian is sweet & very likeable, and she and Grant are wonderful together.

Kleypas does her usual remarkable job with steamy love scenes, tender emotions, doubts & conflicts, easy-to-read style, and the ultimate triumph of love. Enjoy.
