Rating: Summary: Finally! A Non-Turkey from Kleypas! Review: My faith in Lisa Kleypas is renewed in this book. After the horror of Because You're Mine and Somewhere I'll find You (insipid is the nicest thing I can say about them), Someone To Watch Over Me offers fresh characters and some interesting conflict. The hero is especially well-done; his flaws are realistically presented and his bad behavior is shown as exactly that: bad behavior from a very human person. Plus the heroine isn't perfect physically: she's short, slightly plump with a high waist and short legs. I could definitely identify as a woman who's 5'2" and far too fond of chocolate! But the hero, who's a total hunk, loves and desires her anyway. Mmmm...The only thing that prevents me from giving this book 5 stars is the pyschobabble and self-analysis that takes place in it, a rather annoying feature that Kleypas has utilized too often in too many of her recent books. Yes, we can understand that both main characters have complexes from losing people they loved early on in life, but to analyze it so quickly and so accurately just does not seem convincing for a pre-freudian/psychoanalytic society. Other than that little glitch (and believe me, it's REALLY minor), I found this novel to be a thoroughly enjoyable read. I hope Kleypas keeps turning out books like this.
Rating: Summary: Great Story. Couldn't stop reading. Review: As usual, Ms. Kleypas gives us suspense, romance and great love stories. I have read many of her books and she never fails to give romance readers what they want. A quiet intriguing story and sad at times. Buy it, you will like it.
Rating: Summary: Lisa Kleypas' back in top form Review: I've written a review on the Avon Books webpage, which will be up this week or next, so drop by and have a read.
Rating: Summary: A great read. Review: I read Lisa Kleypas. She writes a strong story with characters I like, set in one of my favorite time periods. She's always great!
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC!! Review: This is a great story & the characters are fantastic.......can't say enough about how good it is.....don't miss this one!!!
Rating: Summary: BRILLIANT!! WITH A TWIST! Review: Lisa Kleypas has outdone herself again! I fell in love with Grant within the first few pages of the book. And Vivien reminds me so much of Sara (DREAMING OF YOU). This is one of those books where you shouldn't believe everything you read. I was so intrrigued by all the unanswered questions, I had to finish the book in one night to find out. This book will definitely become of Lisa kleypas' classics.
Rating: Summary: Touching, a true romance novel Review: Have you ever fallen in love with the characters in a novel, like so much that you wish you were them, or you wish you had what they had...well then this is the story to read.
Rating: Summary: A 5+. This is a good story and a terrific romance Review: Bow Street Runner Grant Morgan loves his profession and the large sum of money he has amassed from it. All classes of London society know his reputation as one of the best runners. This explains why the worker hands him over the unconscious body of a beautiful woman. He quickly recognizes her as Vivian Duvall, a courtesan with a reputation of her own. Grant also realizes that someone strangled her, hit her on the head, and left her to die in the river. Grant takes Vivian to his home. When she regains consciousness she has no idea who she is or what happened to her. She refuses to believe that she lived the life he insists she did, but even Grant cannot understand the air of innocence that radiates from her soul. As they fall in love, Grant adamantly believes that Vivian remains a nasty schemer willing to do anything for a pound. He continues to try to uncover the truth behind the person he now wants to love even though he is afraid of the consequences when she regains her memory. He also needs to learn who tried to kill her before her assailant succeeds. The answer to the puzzle of Vivian seems relatively easy to solve, but that does not reduce the enjoyment of SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME. The mysterious Vivian quickly gains the hearts of his servants, the audience, and even the skeptical Grant. In turn, readers will love Grant for being so different from the typical Regency hero, but hate his disdainful treatment of Vivian. These memorable characters inside an entertaining story line demonstrate why Lisa Kleypas is considered one of today's best historical romance writers. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Dreadful Review: I found this book too cliche for words. The fact that it was poorly written with weak character build-up/descriptions/relationships only added to the drudgery. Don't waste your time.
Rating: Summary: Another winner. Review: Although I read the series out of order, (second book first, third book second and first book last)it did not make the books any better or worse. They are all still awesome books. Being that this is the first book in the trilogy, it gives a good opening to the rest of the series. It intorduces many characters, but not too many that everything clashes. It shows the workings of Bow Street as they started to expand and get more power, as well as more scorn. It shows what these men went through everyday just to do as they felt right and all the stuff they had to take from everyone. Its a good view of the fight police went through to establish themselves.
Grant is a great hero. Even though he does not like Vivian he takes her home to get her well, and also to exact some revenge on her. Only when she wakes up, she is not the Vivian that everyone knows she is. Lisa takes you on a good ride while youtry to figure out what is going on in the book. Who is this? Why is that? She does a good job of spinning the who done is and why.
Its a good tale that keeps you guessing and turning the pages. Highly recommended. Enjoy!
