Rating: Summary: Great! A Must Read Review: This book was great! I loved it. I've read almost all of Lisa Kleypas's novels, and this one is one of the best. After well-known courtesean Vivian Duvall spreads rumors about Grant Morgan, he vows revenge. Never did he realize his chance would come so quickly. Bow Street Runner Grant Morgan is called to the docks to see a drowning victim, only to discover the victim is Vivian Duvall, and she is very much alive. Upon further investigation, Grant discovers someone was attempting to murder Vivian, unsucessfully. What's Grant to do, but bring her to his own home to protect her. When Vivian wakes up, she realizes she not only knows her name, but she also can't believe that she was a prostitute. Grant uses this against her and informs her that they had an "arrangement." Throughout the next few weeks Grant and Vivian work together to find who tried to murder her, and they also fall in love along the way. Overall this was a great book. I started reading this book Wednesday afternoon and by midnight I was 3/4 of the way through. Unfortunately, 5 a.m. comes early, especially when I'm dreaming about the characters in my latest book.
Rating: Summary: Mystery & romance Review: The delicious Grant Morgan must solve the attempted murder of a courtesan -- or is she? Vivian has lost her memory, and she seems too innocent to be the courtesan Grant knows her to be. As he seeks to protect her and find the would-be killer, Grant begins to fall in love with her despite what she is. This book has more of a mystery than the other two books in the series (this is the first). It also introduces us to Ross Cannon, the hero of book 2. This romance is particularly interesting because of the amnesia and Vivian's supposed career. She can't quite believe that she is who he says she is either. Despite all the uncertainites, they begin to fall in love. Vivian is sweet & very likeable, and she and Grant are wonderful together. Kleypas does her usual remarkable job with steamy love scenes, tender emotions, doubts & conflicts, easy-to-read style, and the ultimate triumph of love. Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: I Love This Couple Review: I have not even finished yet and already I know I will hold Grant & 'Vivien' in my heart with JM's Ian & Elizabeth (Almost Heaven). I love their hearts. The scene in the library is one of the most tender, touching scenes I have ever read in a novel. Not sexual at all yet I just kept re-reading it...and the tender way he looks after her in the beginning. *sigh* Wonderful love story.
Rating: Summary: Watching and waiting Review: I've read almost all of Lisa Kleypas's books, save one and let me tell you, she's an awesome writer! SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME takes on the task of writing about mistaken identity and makes it come to live in a way that has the reader waiting to see who the heroine really is. Althought this isn't on my favorite Klaypas book, it has all the right elements...a phenomal plot, great chemistry between the hero and the heroine, the sensual scenes, and mystery. The back cover of the book reads: "She couldn't remember who she was...A temptingly beautiful woman awakens in a stranger's bed, rescued from the icy waters of the Thames, her memory gone. Told that she is Vivien Rose Duvall, one of London's most scandalous beauties, she finds herself under the protection of enigmatic, charming Grant Morgan. Her life is in his hands. Deep in her heart, she knows he has mistaken her for someone else... He was the only man she could trust. As one of London's most eligible and unattainable catches, Grant Morgan is a man who has known every kind of woman. And the one in his arms now seems so innocent, so vulnerable, that he can't help but be enchanted. And as his love for this mysterious beauty grows, he's determined to unravel the secrets of her past and discover the truth--no matter what." S.
Rating: Summary: Simply Superb! Review: I thought the story started slowly and it seemed to drag on, but happily picked up. The ending was pleasantly satisfying. Be sure to read the book two, Lady Sophia's Lover and book three, Worth Any Price.
Rating: Summary: This romance did not disappoint! Review: Grant Morgan is a sexy, larger-than-life (and larger-than-average) man. He is confident, collected, and a little bit dangerous. Vivien is sweetly innocent as an amnesiac who was nearly strangled to death and drowned in the Thames. The mistaken identity storyline is interesting and Lisa Kleypas never disappoints with her great characters and easy writing style. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great romance.
Rating: Summary: Great novel. I enjoyed it very much. Review: The plot was interesting. Contrary to what other reviewers have written, it was not predictable. Yes, you knew she couldn't be Vivien, both by the way she acts and also, by the fact that if she were she would be an impossible to like heroine, but that doesn't make it less interesting. You still wonder who is she. How she came to be in London, what is her relationship with the actual Vivien, where the real Vivien is. I liked Grant very much. He is so strong, protective and seems so invincible, and at the same time is tender, loving, and vulnerable. I loved the fact that he started to fall in love with her even against his best judgement, when he still thought that she was Vivien. And I liked her because she was so sweet, and brave in a tender sort of way. She was in such a difficult situation. I really felt how distressing it must be not to remember who you are, or where you come from, especially if there is someone trying to kill you! I also liked that Vivien (the real Vivien) was not a one-dimensional character, the typical villain that doesn't have a good bone in her body. Yes, she is selfish and amoral, but she really loves her sister. I think that makes for a much more believable character, since I tend to be skeptical about the "all bad" villains. The love scenes were romantic and sensual and their interaction is always charged with feeling. You can actually feel the electricity between them. So, Interesting Plot + Likeable characters + Strong Sensuality = Great book. I really recommend it. Now I can't wait to read "Lady Sophia's Lover" since I was very intrigued by the mysterious Ross Cannon.
Rating: Summary: The plot is familiar, but the story is terrific. Review: It doesn't take long to solve the mystery of the story for yourself. It is not an uncommon theme. However, I still found myself glued to the book. The writing is excellent. The characters are vivid and realistic, not the perfect bodies and flawless faces that we so often read about. The story moves and keeps you interested. It is exciting enough to have you on the edge of your seat at times. Then at other times it becomes endearing enough to make you mushy inside. At still at other times, it is fun enough to make you smile. ("Chopper", the moody cat, is one good source of humor.) Terrific love scenes. Daring and steamy. This was my first Lisa Kleypas novel as well. I will look for more of her work in the future.
Rating: Summary: Who's that woman? Everyone knows but the Woman. Review: I read the back cover and new I wanted to read this. I liked the fact that the characters were commoners not aristocracy. I was pleasantly surprised by the great plot. Bow street runner and self made man Grant Morgan is summoned to a murder/drowning of a woman and realized he knows her, Vivian Duvall. Vivian is a sought after courtesan who recently met Grant Morgan at a ball. He realized she is alive and takes her to his home for medical treatment. When she awakens she can't remember who she is or what happened to her. The real story is who is the real Vivian Duvall, the hard courtesan or the seemingly innocent woman living in his home recovering. Grant struggles with his knowledge of the courtesan and the suprising woman of kindness that now occupies his home. He has to investigate her attempted murder and is drawn to the wonderful person she seems to be not the courtesan he thought he knew. This is a wonderful story of identity and judgment with great sensual tension and scenes.
Rating: Summary: Didn't Care For This One Review: I never got a handle on who exactly Grant Morgan was. The way in which the author described him made him seem loveable, yet more like an overgrown oaf. I never understood his personality, and I never once thought he came across as a handsome, much-sought-after bachelor and hero. Just didn't fit with this guy. Given that, and the weak plot, this book rates 2 stars, but in deference to this author, I gave it 3. I actually read SOPHIA'S LOVER first, and I liked Grant Morgan, which was what prompted me to look for this book.
