Rating: Summary: WOW Review: What more can I say but WOW, I have been reading romance novels since I was 14, and this has been the first time that a book makes me cry, it was beautiful. Johanna Lindsey and Jude Deveraux are still my favorite authors, but this book has just become my all time favorite romance novel. I can't wait for more from Kinley.
Rating: Summary: Fairy Tale Quality Review: As you will note from the limited number of reviews that I write, I am seldom so enamoured of a title that I am compelled to take time to write about it. With "Master of Desire" I was eager to tell you how wonderful this story is. I say "story" because it is SUCH a story, almost to the level of a Fairy Tale (with a happy ending, of course). It was greatly amusing to see Emily so determined to have Draven as her husband while Draven, at the same time, is so determined not to "touch Emily in lust" due to his oath to Henry. On top of that, I have rarely read a romance novel (and I read a lot of them) where I liked BOTH characters so much. Not once did I get irritated at something one of the characters did or the way they reacted. Often, in these novels, the character will do something that will cause a misunderstanding to be used as the proverbial "obstacle to overcome" so relied upon by writers of romance novels, and I become irritated that the character would be so stupid. The "obstacle" in this novel is both real and funny at the same time. Further qualifying Draven's side of the obstacle, Ms. MacGregor adds Draven's fear of becoming like his father to his oath to Henry, saving me from being irritated with him for his diligence in trying to keep to his oath in the face of Emily's obvious interest. I can't wait to see more from Kinley MacGregor, a very talented writer!
Rating: Summary: The absolute best Review: About once in a decade a romance comes along that just blows my socks off. In the 70's it was Wolf and The Dove, in the eighties it was The Windflower, in the nineties it was Flowers from the Storm and I know in the coming decade, Master of Desire is the one. It's a classic old school romance with a story that won't leave your thoughts. Emily was the perfect match for Draven. She's courageous, she's bold. Draven is wounded and tough. If romance for the new millinium had a name, it would be Kinley MacGregor. Keep your eyes on this author. She's going to be our next great leading lady, and I for one hope she has a long, prolific career.
Rating: Summary: A definite keeper Review: I can't remember the last time I read a book where an author could wrench my heart in one scene and have me in tears laughing in the next. I can't really explain this book, except to say it is brilliant. A really rare treat. I can't wait to read the rest of her books.
Rating: Summary: This years best romance Review: Take an earl scarred by a brutal past, a heroine who is determined to have him no matter what, an overprotective father, a king with a mission, a brother who wants the earl to be happy, a zany maid and friend, great sex scenes, throw in a little mystery and one of the most original plots I've seen in a long time, liberally sprinkle in humor, tears and a break-neck pace and what do you have? The perfect recipe for a keeper. With Master of Desire, Kinley MacGregor has shown herself to be a Master of Romance. I can't even begin to recommend this book enough. Do yourself a favor, read a MacGregor novel tonight!
Rating: Summary: a light and enjoyable read Review: This is the first book I have read by Kinley Macgregor and definitely won't be my last. This book has it all... compassionate characters, steamy sex, and an interesting medieval plot that will have you positively giggling throughout. I love a book that can combine these elements with humour. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: I read this book in one night and couldn't put it down. It's so nice to actually read something different. Unlike most romances, the heroine actually chases after the hero and what a hero he is. Deadly and dangerous, he's tender and sweet to Emily. A real Prince Charming. And the secondary characters are laugh out loud funny. This book is definitely going on my keeper shelf.
Rating: Summary: This author is a born storyteller ! A fantastic romance Review: King Henry II lectures Lord Draven de Montague and his neighbor Lord Hugh that the raiding between them is over as His Highness demands peace between them. To insure this occurs, Henry asks Draven's younger brother what does his sibling treasure most. Simeon responds that Draven values honor above everything else. Using the wisdom of Solomon, Henry makes Draven vow not to raid Hugh's lands and forces the latter to hand over one of his daughters to spend a year at Draven's home as a guest who is not to be harmed or shamed. Reluctantly, Draven welcomes the gentle Emily to his abode. Emily believes in chivalry, but finds her host is a brooding anti-hero. She sets three goals to achieve before her year is over. Draven will laugh and smile, and learn how to truly love. Neither one expected the heated passion of love to flow between them, but he must not bring shame on her. MASTER OF DESIRE is an amusing medieval romance that provides the audience with much enjoyment because of the battle of the sexes that replaces the feudal squabble between lords. The story line is fun because the lead characters and their supporting cast seem genuine in their disputes, and the picturesque setting filled with detail are interwoven into the plot. This enhances the Draven-Emily relationship. With novels like this compassionate tale and MASTER OF SEDUCTION, Kinley MacGregor is quickly becoming a historical romance fan favorite. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Just a really fun book! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. One of the other reviewers likened it to Woodiwiss's "The Wolf and the Dove" and it is kind of a light-hearted spin on the same story. The tortured hero who needs no one, keeps everyone at a distance and the flirty, vivacious heroine determined to reach his mind and his heart. (Though both books are 5 star, I consider "The Wolf and the Dove" the better book.) Another reviewer said "Emily cracked me up" and that is the gist of the book. She is utterly tireless (and hysterical) in her efforts to get Draven to smile, laugh and in any form pay attention to her. And he is entirely frustrated in his attempts to ignore her. She is completely un-ignorable! And she has help. Draven's efforts to say away from her are constantly thwarted by his brother Simon and Emily's maid Alys who are on Emily's side in her quest to have Draven for husband. The book is fast paced, fun - an easy and enjoyable read!
Rating: Summary: Smouldering love story Review: Lady Emily has dreamed of being carried away from her father's castle by a knight on a white horse, for her father who is over protective will not allow his remaining three daughters to marry for fear that they may die in child birth like his wife and other daughters. Draven de Montague, Earl of Ravenswood arrives at the castle to carry away Lady Emily but not for love or passion. He has promised King Henry that he will take away Lady Emily for one year as a peace pact with Hugh, Emily's father but he will not touch her during that year. Lady Emily is immediately smitten by Draven and vows to marry him for her own purposes and also to create peace between Draven and her father. She does everything in her power to tempt Draven but Draven will not touch her because because he is haunted by his past and also he knows that the King will order his death if he does not return Emily intact after the year has ended. This was a smouldering love story. You could really feel Draven's passion reaching boiling point but he continues to resist the charms of Lady Emily. Draven was such a gentleman and it was fun to watch Emily chase after him. Kinley MacGregor also writes paranormal romances under her real name Sherrilyn Kenyon. I really love her paranormal romances and decided to find historical romances she has written under the name Kinley MacGregor and I am not disapointed. Both styles of writing are as equally good as the other. Lealing
