Summary: Could have been a great romance...
Review: This book could have been a great romance. It had all the ingredients: a woman who needed to be awakened both emotionally and physically and a man whose devil-may-care attitude hid a deep soul and past pain. In the end, I was disappointed. It was ok, but only ok. Mary Balogh is an author who can do (and has done) much better.

I often didn't quite understand what the hero saw in the heroine - why did he think her primness was cute? How was he able to continually shrug off her set-downs? As a hero, he was very likeable and dashing; I did understand what she saw in him. I didn't feel a lot of passion between the two of them.

The frustrating thing was that there were opportunities for the characters to delve deeper and to really connect, but I didn't feel like that step was taken. Ultimately, this book is not a keeper in my collection.

Summary: Wonderful characters
Review: This book was a true delight. I enjoyed every page. The characters were actually nice to one another and you could understand how they grew to love one another. Very nicely done. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: I give it a 3 1/2 stars
Review: This is my second Balogh novel. My first was More than A Mistress which I thoroughly enjoyed, although it had a bit of a slow beginning. It was a good read. My only complaint is that Ms. Balogh spent too much time introducing too many names instead of focusing more on the relationships of some of the key characters (i.e. Jerome and Freydka). Lauren and Kit were an example of two souls complementing each other instead of being too much alike. Like the saying goes: Opposites attract!

Summary: Read them all!
Review: This is the latest in a series, and they built so well upon each other, culminating in this, the sweetest of them all. Don't miss!

Summary: The Kind of Book Friend's Pass On
Review: This was my introduction to the author and I promptly went to the bookstore and bought the Simply series that are currently on the shelves. I enjoyed the love story between Kit and Lauren, and I've decided that I must have read poor Regency in the past to have missed this genre. This book came highly recommended and I plan to read this author now.

Summary: Truly memorable
Review: This was the book that made me go back and buy One Night for Love just so I could figure out how bad things were for Lauren.

Lauren deals with the scandal for the early part of this story but (unlike others) I didn't find it to be slow-moving. Ms Balogh builds psychological layers onto her characters and always provides some kind of closure at the end - the characters often find out something new about themselves, and/or some secret that makes them more complete.

This also added a more-than happy ending as Lauren managed to get past her hangups about Lily.

Summary: A Nice Regency Romance!
Review: This was the first time I've ever read Ms. Balogh and I found her to be very precise in her writing and very true to the time period that she has selected to set her story.

This is a story of two people that are totally different but each has been hurt personally and carries the scars and reacts to situations completely different. Kit our hero laughs and Lauren our heroine is the perfect "lady" in every particular way. Together they make a bargain. Kit will give Lauren a summer to remember and fun memories to carry off into her spinsterhood, and Lauren will pretend to be his betrothed (just for the summer mind you) in order to prove to his family that he has gotten his act together. The plan backfires though and each start feeling things despite trying not to. Will they part ways once summer comes to an end?

This was a nice story and Ms. Balogh was fair to the characterization when it came to Kit and Lauren. What was difficult to understand was why Kit who was already rather emotionally scarred was willing to put up with Lauren's rather high-in-the-instep attitude repeatedly. To be fair to Lauren she was raised in a situation, which made her feel compelled to always do the right thing. Letting go and laughing and having a good time would not be something that would come easily to Lauren. I guess this is why opposites attract. In any event these two mismatched people find love and it was nice to read a story where the love scenes were sweet and the characters learned not only about each other but also about themselves. I recommend Ms. Balogh for a sweet romantic read.

Summary: Heartwarming Regency
Review: Those readers familiar with Ms. Balogh's regencies will recognize Lauren Edgeworth, the jilted bride from ONE NIGHT FOR LOVE. One year after Lauren's betrothed left her standing at the altar, she is determined never to wed and is currently a companion of the enceinte Duchess of Portfrey. As members of the ton view Lauren as an ice princess, Kit Butler, Viscount Ravensberg, sees her as a challenge he cannot refuse. A betting man, Ravensberg bets his fellow rakehell friends that he can procure the lady's hand in marriage. Credibly honest, Kit informs Lauren that his family expects him to wed soon, and he doesn't want them to choose a bride. Lauren agrees to the sham of a betrothal for the summer only so that her family will not continue to attempt to formulate her future.

While the pretense of a betrothal to benefit both parties is not an unusual plot, Ms. Balogh deviates from the usual precipitous succumbing of passion. During her summer at Kit's family home, Lauren and Kit find simple pleasure in their kindness towards one another as their caring natures lead to the greater complexities of a loving relationship. Lauren's discovery of self through Kit's eyes is the emotional pinnacle of this heartwarming read. Though the love scenes are explicit, there is a poetry here that few authors are able to achieve.

One of the most prolific regency writers, Ms. Balogh is once again in top form with this latest read that is proof positive that her novels only keep getting better and better.

Summary: charming Regency romance
Review: When her fiancé Neville Wyatt's vanished wife reappeared while Lauren Edgeworth was exchanging vows with him in front of their families and friends. Lauren handles the twist quite well as Wyatt returns to his wife, but is tired of the sad stares. She leaves Newbury Abbey to visit her pregnant aunt in London. However, Aunt Sadie wants Lauren happily married and plans to find the right husband for her. Meanwhile in Hyde Park, Lauren observes a shirtless aristocrat fighting with three thugs.

That lord, Viscount Christopher "Kit" Butler is bored with society and does not care what anyone thinks though this public battle is over the threesome mistreating a milkmaid. His parents summon Kit to the family home in Alvesley to inform him that he must marry and sire an heir.

Kit decides he needs a fiancée to fool his parents while Lauren agrees she too needs a fiancé to keep her aunt off her back. Kit and Lauren agree to pretend to be betrothed with the plan being she ends their relationship. However, love punctures the plan leaving both wanting the other forever, but doubting those feelings are shared.

A SUMMER TO REMEMBER is a charming Regency romance that entices the audience through the delightful lead couple. Though Neville is typical of the sub-genre, readers will find him likable as he adheres to a code of honor that adds depth to the usual hedonistic rake. Lauren seems sadder and wiser than when she was left at the alter in ONE NIGHT FOR LOVE. Together this couple provides a wonderful reading experience for the audience.
