Summary: A Keeper and A Half!!!!
Review: "Son of the Morning" is one of Ms.Howard's finest works to date! I am generally not a fan of time-travel books as it is difficult for the transition from one era to another to be made believable. That is not the case here! Ms. Howard has created two wonderfully strong characters in Grace and Niall, and made it plausible for them to reach across time to each other. Howard's research into the "cult" of the Knights Templar is thorough, and she weaves her information on this ancient body of men into a murder mystery that keeps the reader on the edge of her seat! Thank you, Ms. Howard!!

Summary: The best time travel I've ever read!
Review: This is the first time travel romance to convince me that a sane and rational woman from this century would willingly give up microwaves, aspirin and (heaven's!!!) toilet paper for a (probably short) lifetime of bad food, ignorant, dirty-handed midwives and a complete lack of romance books! This novel was so tightly plotted, however, that by the last page, there wasn't a skeptical bone in my body! It's more than a romance, there is also mystery and mysticism in exciting doses. This one's exceptional; a sure keeper.

Summary: Filled w/history, romance & sensualtiy.
Review: This type of book is out of character for LH, but she should seriously consider doing more time travel. It was fantastic. BTW, to the reader from san diego, ca who bashed this book. do a little research yourself, you'll find that not just the ancient israelites, but many other peoples worshipped the male & female aspect of god. and of course, many people continue to do so today. get over your religious hang-ups & maybe you would have enjoyed this book more.

Summary: Absolutely infuriating
Review: If anything causes me to foam at the mouth it is the superimposition of 20th century religious beliefs over historical characters. I consider this kind of anachronism to be the worst possible kind that can be perpetrated by an author. Religion has played such an important part in world history that it deserves to be treated with respect. It deserves to be depicted through sympathetic characters who actually believe in their respective religions. It does NOT deserve to be practically satirized, which is exactly what Ms. Howard does in this book.

Black Niall is a total caricature. Here is a monk who never gained any appreciation for the virtue of chastity (which even the ancient pagans recognized as virtuous); here is a Catholic during the Age of Faith who has no understanding of his religion and who cannot even answer the simplest of objections to it (concerning idolatry and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ); here is a Templar, dedicated in God's name to the protection of the Church and pilgrims to the Holy Land, who doesn't give a hoot about any of the above (including God).

This is intolerable! It's also completely predictable. Show this author evidence that the ancient Israelites worshipped the goddess Ashara and instead of concluding that yes, the ancient Israelites were at times idolatrous, she concludes that Judaism and Catholicism both have deceived their followers by covering up evidence of so-called "true worship"! She couldn't conclude that both historic Jews and Catholics were both trying to destroy what was clearly idolatry and corruption of the worship owed the one, true God. What a crock!

And because of this, none of the rest of the book has merit. Historical fiction depends on authenticity. This is a fable that has been miscategorized.

Summary: Time travel romance takes a new twist
Review: I don't normally like time travel romance, but this one changed my mind. "Son of the Morning" was the first Linda Howard book that I'd read. The story is great already, then comes the time travel portion! The method for time travel is almost believable. The characters are endearing. The research that went into writing this story makes it so rich and interesting. I loved reading this book. I was actually bummed out because I finished it. I know I like a book when I want it to continue after the last page is read.

Summary: The best blend of savvy writing, history, fantasy & romance.
Review: This book is a keeper. It is a wonderful blend of rich time-travel fantasy, steamy sex and mystery thriller, wrapped in a plausible historical setting. 14th Century Scotland's turbulent struggle for power provides the backdrop for this sometimes mystical, often earthy, always compelling story of a 20th century woman running from the horror and grief of a present day murder right into the arms of a reclusive Scottish warlord.

Summary: Do not miss this book. It is fantastic!
Review: Linda Howard has outdone even herself with this book. There is not one book by Linda Howard that I would not recommend, but Son of the Morning is extraordinary even for Linda. This book is full of exciting drama and sensuality. The characters are totally engrossing and I did not want this book to end. Thank you Linda!

Summary: Couldn't put it down!
Review: I loved this book. I've only recently become a Linda Howard fan, and her books are truly addictive. This is the best one I've read yet. Niall is so incredibly sexy I'm hoping to have a few 'dreams' myself - I'd go back in time for him. The pace is fast and so suspenseful I was glad I had the time to devote to it. Once I started I couldn't stop. An excellent job.
