Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: I couldn't believe how great this book was, Linda Howard actually brought me back in time thousands of years! I couldn't put the book down and cried so many times I couldn't believe it. Action, suspense, romance this book has it all. Not only are you in modern day but you'll be transported to days long gone before us. Unbelievablely a Great Read. What more can I say!
Rating: Summary: The best of the best - confessions of a die-hard Howard fan Review: Do you like to mix your genres? If not, don't bother to read further. If so, this one is for you. This versatile author gives us accurate and speculative historical fiction, mysticism, mystery, suspense, time travel, and romance in this one book. Those of us who number Linda Howard among our top ten favorites of all time often came to her first as fans of her steamy love scenes -- and I do mean steamy: the scene with Grace and Niall at the top of the steps offers us eight pages (count 'em!) of sheer and yet totally romantic eroticism, and that is followed up by more of the same once he carries her off to his bedroom. Though these two don't actually meet until more than halfway through the book, they have already been together several times in what she thought was dreams or fantasy and he seemed to know was somehow real. Nobody handles the thrills/pitfalls of early intimacy for her lovers better or more believably than Linda Howard. I also found particularly enjoyable in this book the mixture of historical and speculative accounts of the Knights Templar and their downfall, especially as intermixed with Robert the Bruce of Scotland. Creag Dhu in the early 1300's was a fascinating place with unexpected political intrigue. The mystery and suspense that preoccupy the first half of the book and take our heroine through near-death, terrible hardship, and unrelenting grief into her eventual happy ending were extremely gripping for me. I actually did the proverbial weeping and laughing in this book. Obviously, I could rhapsodize for hours over this book, but I will confine myself to a few more particularly bright spots. The secondary characters, from Kristian Sieber to Harmony Johnson to Huwe dhe Hay, are well-drawn and run the gamut from endearingly shy to honestly raunchy to revoltingly primitive. The mystical elements have an intriguing and refreshing spirituality served with a wonderful leavening of feminism, a la Ashara and Yahweh. The Foundation of Evil is frighteningly believable. Niall is the ultimate He-Man, warrior supreme, lethal yet lyrically loving with Grace St. John, his benediction if not his salvation. Trust me; you have to read this book!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this down. Review: This is the first book of this genre that I have read, and I think I will have to start reading more time travels if this is the norm. Of course I am a huge fan of Linda Howard, so probably, this isn't the norm. Mostly, I like to read somewhat realistic mysteries and romances, but I am glad I tried something new. From the first chapter to the last, I was hooked. A definite 5 stars. If you are unsure whether you want to try a book that has an unrealistic plot, go ahead. While the plot is unrealistic, the characters aren't, and you will enjoy them. It doesn't matter if you are a fan of historicals or contemporaries, this book should appeal to both.
Rating: Summary: 5-star Time Travel Romance Review: I'm not much of a romance novel reader ... so for me to rate one this highly is pretty unusual. "Son of Morning" is one of the most entertaining, well-researched historical novels I've ever read. The basic premise is that medieval linguist Grace, through various circumstances, travels back in time to meet Niall Dhu ("Black Niall") Robertson, a former Knight Templar in the highlands of Scotland. The chemistry between the two characters absolutely sizzles as they experience danger, intrigue ... and each other. There is one section of this book which is most assuredly the most erotic thing I've ever read ... anyone who reads the novel will recognize the part I mean. If you enjoy Highland history and/or romance novels, this is an excellent selection.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this book down ! Review: The laundry didn't get done, the dog didn't get walked and my children barely were fed while I read this book. It was an absolute page turner of a thriller. Although I usually prefer reading historical romance, I discovered Linda Howard through her Mackenzie family sagas. I ordered this book in the hopes that it would be as engaging as they were. This book brought you into every heart-pounding moment of story and had far too many twists & turns to be predictable. I enjoyed reading every page of this book and I am sure that other readers will too !

Rating: Summary: Son Of The Morning Review: I will never be able to say enough about the books that Linda Howard writes! I picked this up and 1 day later set it down wishing for more. Linda you should write more time travels this story was fantastic! I loved the development of Grace, you want to cheer every time she evades Parrish and his men. The love making in the hidden passage had me steaming, the ending was wonderful, just what you want to happen to these two people destined to be together. I have never passed a book on to my husband before but I told him he HAD to read this one!
Rating: Summary: Linda Howard's best!` Review: Linda Howard is a frustrating writer to read: when she is good -this novel, Mr. Perfect, Kill and Tell - she is very very good, but when she is bad - An Independent Wife, Dream Man - she is excruciatingly bad. Mostly this is because her male characters are uniformly alpha males who develop an instant unswerving devotion to the female characters, who are uniformly "nice girls" who are delicate, quiet, and need rescue. This is a very fine line to walk and still try to portray the heroine as anything more than a witless idiot. Son of the Morning, however, is LH at the top of her form. The mystery/intrigue aspect of this story is by far the most involved of her writing career, casting Grace St. John as an ancient language expert out to thwart a secret society that killed her husband and brother. LH even blends time travel into the story in a way worthy of scifi writers. LH takes the time to develop the characters fully, fleshing out (sorry, bad pun) Grace's character to truly explain her actions, and dwelling more on Niall's (the hero) intelligence and battle skills than his looks and physical attributes (don't worry, though, they are mentioned!). This is, in fact, the only book by LH that I have ever read, including her latest, that could stand alone without a "romance" label slapped on it. Which would be a shame, because this is the most mature, realistic romance she has ever created (even considering the whole time travel issue). The romance builds slowly - from different centuries even! - and provides some genuine reason for the passion between the two. One of my major issues with LH is her habit of tossing the hero and heroine together for a week or two of crisis, during which time the previously non-committal male decides that the heroine is his wife-to-be/mother-to-be of his child, often without any real explanation to the reader. While the courtship here is not lengthy, it is the deepest of any of her other writings. So savor this book! I have read it a few times, and still pick up something new every time!
Rating: Summary: Interesting mixture of romance, time travel, and mystery Review: I am extremely fond of time travel stories and stories about Scotland, so this book appealed on several levels. The heroine, a modern ancient language scholar, is extremely smart, equally human, and unassuming. It is splendid fun to see her come to grips and change as she deals with tremendous adversity. What surprised me when I got into this book was that it is a mystery and much of it is set in the present time. The present time and the past merge and most of the logic works pretty well, so I was genuinely pleased. I also agree with most reviewers that it is a fairly torrid romance, once the characters find themselves together. It was great fun.
