Rating: Summary: Dream material Review: If you open the book you will get sucked in and feel yourself being absorbed by the characters and the story line. Every gamet of human emotion is captured in these pages and you are unable to escape being pulled along for the ride, so don't fight it...relish it. Step inside the character of Grace St. John and go on anadventure like no other...one you will want to repeat over and over again. Through Grace and her counterpart, Niall, you will experience in literature that which many of us could only dream of after twilight....it's a treat to know, unlike dreams that many times fade in the light of day, the book has but to be opened and you're there again. Linda Howard writes in a warm passionate tone that goes down like honey(sweet and creamy), her characters are human, believeable, passionate, driven, and most importantly, they are what and who we would like to be if but just once. I highly recommend the reading of "Son of the Morning" for pure pleasure and I keep my copy fresh at hand always...and if I lend it out it's one of those rare items I will ask for back if not returned.
Rating: Summary: Good-but with a odd ending Review: This book brings the term "romantic dreams" an all new meaning. The grieving widow will get her revenge or die trying, and the hero is almost everything one would want in a knight. My biggest problem with this book is a problem common to time-travel or fantasy: the storyline is often "convenient" and I think the ending left too many questions. I would read Ms. Howard's laundry list, and I will read this book again, but it is not my favorite. To be fair, all my romance reading friends love this book, and one of them even hit me in the arm when I complained about the ending, so I am way in the minority.
Rating: Summary: The BEST out of the hundreds of romance novels I read. Review: This book was such an extraordinary read, that it haunted me for weeks after I read it. First of all, the characters are REAL in their struggles and their reactions. Grace is a woman who makes one proud to be a member of the female gender. Neil is a man who would make any woman salivate. The plot is extraordinary since the bookish Grace is forced to become streetsmart in order to revenge a horrific deed of murder and one way that she reaches her goal is by her communication with Niall, through 7 centuries of time! Amazing and imaginative, delivered in a way that the reader believes. This book has everything, the characters, the plot, the action, the excitement, and the romance essential to a great book. I wish this book could be made into a movie. Would that not be the most groundbreaking movie ever?
Rating: Summary: LINDA HOWARDS BEST EVER! Review: I HAVE ALL OF LINDA HOWARDS BOOKS AND HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT THIS BOOK WAS THE BEST I'VE EVER READ! A MUST READ AND KEEP!!!
Rating: Summary: All time favorite book!! Review: Linda Howard is a truly gifted writer. Her ability to transform a story and make you feel like you are the heroine is amazing. Son of the morning is my all time favorite book. I have read this one at least 5 times. If you haven't already read this....then read it and then re-read it again...it's that good!!
Rating: Summary: Linda Howard's Only Time-Travel - A Great Success Review: I absolutely loved this book and have looked for similar books by Linda Howard, only to discover that this one book was her only time-travel historical romance and what a loss that is for the rest of us readers. An excellent story. I had a very hard time putting it down.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK!! Review: I read this book on a whim last year and i have read it several times since then! The story captivated me from the very beginning. Grace St. John is a researcher translating old documents that talk of a treasure and the Knights Templar. After suffering a tragic loss (Iwon't give too much away) she is on the run and furiously translating the key to the mystery, and trying to escape the danger that is chasing her. She has dreams about a gorgeous warrior, and he knows she is there...they're not dreams, but quasi-visions of another time. She eventually travels back in time and confronts the man of her dreams- literally, and tries to save the world. The heroine was gutsy and strong, brilliant and determined, while still being feminine. the secondary characters were wonderful and the hero...wow...totally male and sexy. I thouroughly enjoyed both the basic plot (I am an historian and archaeologist with a weakness for romance) and the incredible love story that is constructed around these two wonderful individuals.
Rating: Summary: A Suspence Thriller! Review: Grace has everything to lose: a happy life with a loving husband, a wonderful brother and an amazing career. She loses it all in one moment. To save herself and avenge the murders of her husband and brother, she is on the run with the very documents that caused all this horror. The police, thinking she killed her husband and brother, and the killer, who wants the documents, are both after her, but she is a strong and an intelligent woman and she gets away...just barely . She learns "street smarts" and how to survive despite this agressive murderer on her tail. When Grace discovers the mystery the documents hold, she knows she must travel through time as the documents explain to meet Black Niall, who she has been dreaming about since she first discovered the documents. He has shared her hot dreams and their lust for each other is so powerful all he has to do is kiss her to make her explode with passion. With Niall's help, they travel back to 1998 to face the ruthless killer. Niall is almost God-like in his strength and the love he shares with Grace makes you wonder if they were made for each other. I expected a romance novel but instead, this novel was filled with action, suspence and VERY little romance...but when she finally does meet Black Niall (65 pages away from the end of the book!) they share some amazingly HOT scenes!! The story reminded me of the movie "The Fugitive" mixed with the film "Mission Impossible," But I didn't find the lack of romance all that dissapointing because the story was so well-written and interesting. This story should be classified as a suspence thriller. She doesn't even meet the hero until page 340 (The story ends at page 400). Most of the novel is about her running from the killers. It's exciting and you really come to love Grace and care about her character. She is so three-dimensional, she seems like a real person. Black Niall sounds delicious but he also plays a minor role in the novel. He is like the supporting character and he comes across as 2-dimensional. I never fell in love with him but I did lust after him. The ending was sweet but I had another ending in mind that never came to fruition. However, that made the novel UNpredictable and that's a good thing. This is my first novel to read by Linda Howard, and I see myself picking up MANY more in the future. I HIGHLY recommend!
Rating: Summary: Pretty good! Review: This is my second Linda Howard novel, and it is surely better than my first, which was Now you see her. My only complaint was that it was not a pure romance. Though the book was well written and fast paced, and the historical aspect was quite intriguing,I felt that not enough time and effort was devoted to the interaction between the two primary characters. So there falling in love at the end seemed to be pretty implausible. I don't know why she wasted the first hundread pages of the book describing stuff that could easily have been brushed over. Also, the stuff about the secret treasure wasn't fully explained, and the last few pages left me somewhat confused. Other than these flaws, the book was a pretty interesting read.
Rating: Summary: Linda delivers a WOW in history/time travel Review: This is a rarity for Linda Howard. Usually she writes the best contempory fiction around. This one is not only a historical, but a time travel, too!! A scholar specialising in ancient manucripts, Grace St. John finds ancient document linking her to a missing treasure - the fabled gold of the Knights Templar. Soon she is the target of a killer bent on finding the treasure and the limitless power it holds and will stop at nothing to get it. Grace needs the celebrated warrior bound for all time to protect the Templar's secret. To save herself, and to summon him, she must travel back into Scotland past. She must find Black Niall, discover his connection to Robert the Bruce, and start this battle scrarred warrior on a quest for all time. One super read!!!
