Rating: Summary: Go Judith! Review: Judith McNaught is a wonderful writer, and this is one of her best! Jennifer Merrick is a strong, spirited heroine, but frustrating when she just won't trust Royce. The Wolf is arrogant, noble, and a romantic at heart. The characters are really well formed and their love, although it began as lust, is real and deep. I was a bit outraged at the almost rape of the heroine in the middle of the book, but it served the plot well. The hero was decent and even kind to Jennifer afterward, if you can ignore the fact that his request was morally corrupt and evil. That was only a setup for the rest of the story, though, and Royce really is a sweetie at heart! The end scene where he give her the kingdom is a tearjerker! Read it again and again
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST I'VE READ IN YEARS!!! Review: I have read many of her books,WHITNEY, MY LOVE; A KINGDOM OF DREAMS; UNTIL YOU; ALMOST HEAVEN but I really think this is my all time favorite. Just ordered ONCE and ALWAYS too. This story has such strong characters, Jenny is always plotting and trying to make bargains with God. Even her innocent stepsister finds the strength to do some plotting herself. But, of course, they usually backfire. Jenny's cruel step brother and the lies he spread aabout her made the clan turn against her. Her "Father" left a lot to be desired too, he could only hate and look for revenge. I loved Royce, a wonderful hero trying to maintain the reputation built on his name "The Black Wolf". My heart went out to them in the scene on the balcony comparing their make-believe "Kingdom" in their day dreams. When she shows tears, instead of disgust at seeing his many scars and then kisses them.....oh, my. I couldn't put the book down. This is a definite keeper and a MUST BUY.
Rating: Summary: One of the books I will read many many times Review: I love this book! I read it within 24 hours because I simply could not put it down. On my list, it's at the top with Sandra Brown's Sunset Embrace. I didn't want it to end.By the way... Jennifer and Royce do not bicker too much. Their bickering is perfect.
Rating: Summary: You must read this book to believe.... Review: This book is so wonderfully written you would'nt think it can actually exist! Ms. McNaught is one of the best writers and she proved it again. If all books would be like the Kingdom of Dreams I probably would'nt stop reading!
Rating: Summary: Romance does not get any more Romantic Review: This is a delightful, yet at the same time heart-wrenching, story of love, loyalty and betrayal. McNaught will move you to laughter and then to tears and back to laughter again.. smoothly, beautifully and effortlessly. Her mastery of prose is truly splendid. Jennifer Merrick is delightful in every way, even in her fierce misguided loyalty. Royce Westmoreland is the Wolf - Big, ugly, fierce and Jennifer's sworn enemy... she also happens to be his unwilling captive. Of course, she fights him all the way and in every way she knows, but at the same time, she finds herself more and more drawn to him. Not too long after her abduction, Jennifer finds herself wedded to the hateful Wolf and life for the wedded-couple is a series of shocking lows and some highs.. This is one of the all-time Best Historical Novels you are ever likely to read. Buy this book and make sure you clear a special place on your bookshelf for it. This one is for keeps!
Rating: Summary: Good hero, good heorin, too much bickering Review: I really like Judith McNaught's writing and so I have rated this book a four. I mean that I like the style and quality of her writing, character development, etc. However, if I based my review only on the story-line of this particular novel, I'd have gone with a 3star rating. The hero and heroin are at odds with each other all but about 10 pages throughout the 438 page book. I liked them both, but grew quite tired of their arguing and coolness toward each other.
Rating: Summary: A spellbinding romance that will keep you entranced... Review: Jennifer is so amazingly mutinous and bold in some of her actions and reactions. She had me laughing so hard, tears dropped. You'll understand what I mean well in the beginning of the book, but wait till she mentions the number 40. You'll laugh too. Royce was a perfect match for her as his rage and terror break down as he comes to realize his love for her. This is a wonderful book and I do suggest it for it has a great plot. It did lack a little in the middle but the ending was dynamite.
Rating: Summary: The only 4-star novel from my favorite author Review: I love Judith McNaught. She is along with Jude Deveraux and Julia London my favorite authors. I rated every book I've read from her till now with 5 stars, since they were all brilliant. This one, good as it was -4 stars is still a very good rating- was lacking something in plot. Jennifer and Royce are met under very bad circumstances: they are English and Scot, sworn enemies. But when Jenny is captured by Royce, living with him she starts to see another view of him, that of a very handsome, generous and attractive man. He too, is attracted to her mainly by her courage - to stand up to him- and her soft heart. Jennifer's loyalty though, lies firstly to her family, so when the first chance appears she escapes from him, thus making him the laughing stock of all England and Scotland. Royce feels betrayed by her, since he has reasons to believe that all the tenderness and attraction she showed to him, only served her purpose to get free. Jennifer on the other hand, is told that he called her a (...) in front of everyone. So when the king orders the two of them to get married, they both agree to do so with reluctance. At this point of the story, I felt the plot weakening. How this fierce hate they felt for each other turns to tenderness and forgiveness so soon, is something I felt difficult to believe. Also, the story starts to loose its pace, and at some point I was very tempted to skip a few pages and see what happens next... Thankfully this didn't last long and soon I was once again drown to the story which came to a very very interesting ending. The book in general is great though, her writing style uncoparable as usual and you definately won't regret reading it. But, since I have come to expect more that "just good" from Mrs McNaught, I couldn't rate it with 5 starts as I did with her other novels (Whitney my love, almost heaven, once and always, something wonderful).
Rating: Summary: Simply Irresistible! Review: This is by far my favorite (and most read) book of all times! It's filled with intrigue, romance, heart-wrenching moments, action, and lots of laughter! My personal favorite funny momentstake place when Jenny is telling someone that Royce kidnapped her, and she says, "... I am Lady Jennifer Merrick, and my father is..." Then Royce cuts in with "A treacherous scheming bastard." He gets it back when she's explaing to the same person that Royce is "the Scourge of Scotland. A beast and a madman." To which the other party simply nods and replies (never missing a beat) "the Duke of Claymore." Yet even with all the humor, there still many moments when my heart leapt with joy and times where I wanted to cry. This book is so amazing, I can't figure out why it's never been made into a movie. It would be an ideal, with something for both sexes!
Rating: Summary: A Kingdom of Dreams Review: "A Kingdom of Dreams" is the first Judith McNaught's novels that I have read. I fell like a rock for her books since then. Jennifer Merrick is a spirited, warm hearted beauty who brings a smile to readers reading about her antics, and tears when she cries. She's no weepy, weak damself in distress, awaiting her hero though. She only shedded tears once in the novel and it brought tears to my eyes as I felt her deep love for her husband and her guilt at having "brought him down" (read the book to understand what I mean by "having brought him down". Royce Westmoreland, the male protaganist, is an alpha male who loves her with an intensity that touches every heart. He is 10 out 10 hero who's also flesh and blood with the ability to feel love, pain and sorrow. Their story is a poignant tale in a web of political rivalry and cruel family machinations. The dialogues in the book are witty and humourous, touching and heartfelt. Read the book and fall into spell of Judith McNaught. Her other books are great too.
