Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: IS THIS A CHILDREN'S BOOK? Review: Like the other readers, I was anxious to be part of Kelly's 'club'. I was also excited to hear that Kelly had chosen, a fun, light, beach-toting PAPERBACK book. (Hardcovers are ridiculously expensive and not worth the monthly commitment)Yes , 'page 166' and the other two 'romps' were well written but what about the remaining 300 pages? I think those pages were written by Judy Blume. "Are you there God, it's me Carly?" It was hard to truly develop a reader-character relationship with Raina's sons without repeatedly saying to yourself, "Aw, COME ON!" Come on, who would really believe, without a blink of the eye, without any valid professional back up, that their mother was dying! And a COIN TOSS!? COME ON! To Carly's credit, I did finish the book; it wasn't THAT bad. But you know what they say, 'bad press is better than no press'.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Very trite and poorly written Review: This book was a sleeper from the beginning...and ridiculous! I kept at it thinking it was going to pick up and it never did. I found many ends left untied at the end and the flow of the story very unlikely.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Not all it's cracked up to be Review: I was fairly disappointed with this book, considering all the hype it has been given over the past few weeks. Kelly Rippa, from Live with Regis and Kelly, has named it the third book in her new book club and I've decided after reading The Bachelor that I probably won't give much credence to her other choices. The story was cute enough, although pretty boring. Roman, the lead male, was a great character, but Charlotte (his love interest) was a wimp! She wouldn't trust him and moaned about it throughout the entire book. It was a weak reason for conflict. Even the secondary characters were dull, including Roman's mother Raina, and his brothers, Chase and Rick. I'll still give the next books in the series a chance though, mostly because I'm counting on the series getting better. Even the whole Panty Thief subplot was tedious. I finished the book, which is the only reason it got three stars. If you're looking for something with more emotional depth, steer clear of this one.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A Tried-and-True Format That Fails Review: First of all, let me say that I really wanted to like this book. I had read the previews about it and bought it as soon as it came out. The basic premise is one that's been done by many romance authors - that of a trio of gorgeous bachelor brothers who are doing all they can to avoid marriage, and the women who manage to snag them. The stories are usually predictable but the route to the conclusion is usually romantic and fun. This book went from fun to just plain silly. The author tried to make the female characters complex, but then she undercut the seriousness by having them behave immaturely. The mother lays a guilt trip on her sons to get married because she wants them to be happy and give her a grandchild. She does this by faking a heart condition which all three sons accept without question. Now I don't know about the rest of you, but when my mother became ill, I researched as much as I could about her condition and I could almost quote symptoms in my sleep. These three supposedly educated men apparently never did that. The lead female character has a mother who is obviously mentally ill, but she never seems to recognize that fact. She says that she wants to avoid the mistakes her mother made, yet she is just as rigid as her mother regarding leaving her hometown. Her best friend has breast augmentation done to satisfy her fiance's idea of perfection. It's rare in a romance where all of the women were annoying, but this book managed it. The most reasonable (read mature) characters in the book were the brothers. And to top it all off, the big mystery in the book involved a series of burglaries in which the only thing stolen are crocheted panties. The perpetrator was extremely obvious. There were some nicely written scenes and dialogue, there were some interesting family problems touched upon, and the chemistry between the male and female leads was good. But the book always remained superficial and never, in my opinion, really realized its potential.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: warm contemporary romance Review: In Yorkshire Falls, New York, widow Raina Chandler is rushed to the hospital with an apparent heart attack that turns out to be indigestion. Her two oldest sons live locally and rush to their mother's side when they hear of her emergency. She fails to correct their misconception about her health. The third son Roman is overseas as a foreign correspondent, but returns as soon as he learns of his mother's illness. Her three bachelor sons ask Raina what they can do to foster her recovery. She replies "Grandbabies". Because he already sacrificed his life for his family, the two younger brothers agree that the oldest is exempt from a coin flip to determine who gets married and has children. The middle child wins the toss leaving Roman to find a wife. He learns Charlotte Bronson is back in town having opened up a boutique. She is the only girl to reject him back in high school, but this time he plans to learn why if she tries to send him packing again. Extremely attracted then, now they fall in love, but she needs a stay at home spouse and he needs to wander the globe. Once the readers recover from Raina's hiding the truth about herself, the audience will appreciate this warm contemporary romance. The three siblings are fine characters with distinctive personalities so that the reader can discern whose whom among Raina's boys. The relationship between Roman and Charlotte is a delight to observe as it heats up the story line. Fans will enjoy the BACHELOR and look forward to the remaining two Chandler tales. Harriet Klausner

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Fun, light read! Review: This isn't like a literary classic or anything, but it was fun and fast to read. There are going to be two more in the series and I will read them when they come out. It is a story of a confirmed bachelor who thinking that his mother is very ill sets out to marry and give her a grandchild. He does not intend to love this woman or even live with her. Then he sees his old high school crush and his heart does flip flops and he falls head over heels in love with her. Steamy, sexy, hot, hot, hot!!!! It is an easy read and a nice change to break up my summer reading. Fun stuff!!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Not for me.... Review: This a poor attempt at a romance novel. There is little of interest - it is deficient in both plot and characterization. But most of all, it was the author's lack of style and simplistic sentence structure that drove me away. I'm sure that many people who make few demands of a book will enjoy it; I did not.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Boring (notice the capital B) Review: Did Phillips write this book in 15 minutes? This reminds me of some of the old Harlequin books I read as a teenager except that it's more sexually explicit. In fact, it was a little silly. I mean, after not seeing each other for 10 years (& after the extent of their previous acquaintance was 1 date in high school), the hero greets the heroine by pinning her outside the ladies room and kissing her??? It's not that this romance novel is bad, but it's just so typical that's there's no reason to read it when there are so many other romance novelists whose works are more interesting, realistic, sexy, etc. (e.g., Sandra Brown, Susan Elizabeth Phillips). I didn't even bother to finish it.
