Rating: Summary: Spicy Twin Romance Review: Prolific romance author Johanna Lindsey's latest novel is a sizzling romance with a healthy dose of humor added to the plot. When identical twin sisters Amanda and Marian Laton are forced to move from their Massachusetts home after the death of their father in the late 1800's, they are unprepared for the adventure at their Aunt Kathleen's Texas ranch. Chad Kincaid, ranch employee and son of a neighboring rancher escorts the women on their final leg of the journey, convinced that Amanda is the desirable one, while Marian is the bookish shrew. But Chad's first impression of the two women is categorically wrong, as an unlikely twist finds Marian dressing dowdily so that men won't be caught in the beauteous Amanda's net if they dare to notice Marian first. Add in Chad's confusion over the fact that he thought that he made love to Amanda (though it was really Marian), and he just might be honor bound to marry the self-centered Amanda, unless he can persuade Spencer Evans to beat him to the altar. Though the plot theme that a young Victorian era woman must marry to claim her inheritance is hardly a new one, Ms. Lindsay has put an interesting slant to this idea with the immense greed of Amanda versus the solitude seeking of Marian. Spicy romance between Chad and Marian keeps that pace at a fast clip, as Chad discovers the beauty and caring soul Marian keeps hidden behind thick ugly spectacles. (thebestreviews.com)
Rating: Summary: A complete waste of time... Review: Reading this book was a COMPLETE waste of time. What is going on? This book was in no way lived up to the caliber of Johanna's writing. The development of the story did not develop and I kept thinking that she wrote this to make a quick buck or to appease the publisher the entire way through. Luckily I bought this in paperback, if I had bought it in hard back I would want some of my money back. Johanna what is up with your writing lately?

Rating: Summary: Lacking in the Romance Department. Review: Sorry Johanna, but there is no plot here -- none. There is no lust here -- none. There is no ROMANCE here -- none. It is the story of two identical twins. We have the good twin and the evil twin, but what twin is what twin? Ah, yes, use the secret number code. Whatever was I thinking? The first twin, Marian, for personal asinine reasons, chooses to don a dreadful disguise. She is rude, indifferent, and boorish to our hero. The second twin, Amanda, is beautiful, spoiled, and shameful. Our poor, poor hero, Chad Kinkaid - whatever is a man supposed to do? Fear not, Chad's sixth sense kicks in and he knows Marian is the one! Why? Who the devil knows? Certainly not this reader! Now the book's strategy -- Chad is aroused, when he attempts to teach Marian how to ride a horse. He drags her into the hay mow, and well, one thing leads to another. But wait, which twin is she? He thinks he knows, but no, he doesn't, or does he? Confused? So was I. There is no story here -- none. The book's copy is double spaced and essentially blank pages complete chapters. I read the hardcover in one day -- not because I couldn't put it down -- simply because there is nothing here. To be effective, the romance should have been explored more. Maybe explain how Marian wins Chad's affections. Perhaps have them spend time together. Or possibly, show Marian being kind and compassionate to another person, maybe the cook or the cook's daughter, or some pathetic ranch hand -- while Chad quietly observes. However, just to inform the reader that Chad knows she is his soul-mate, well it just doesn't warrant. Sorry, for all the Johanna Lindsey fans -- out there in romance land -- and I am one of her biggest, this book misses the grade. For entertainment, seduction and lust, read Lindsey's "Prisoner of my Desire" or "Gentle Rogue". Grace Atkinson, Ontario - Canada.
Rating: Summary: AN INSIGHTFUL READING Review: Talented voice performer Laural Merlington gives a splendid reading as she effortlessly inhabits the personalities and voices of two very different sisters. Set in the Southwest during the 1870s this is the story of twins, Amanda and Marian Laton. They are identical physically but otherwise poles apart. To put it in Western terms one should be wearing a white hat, and the other a black. When their father unexpectedly dies the young women are sent to live on a ranch as big as a Texas ranch is supposed to be. Of course, there's a handsome young cowboy in the picture - Chad is the son of a cattle baron. One man, two women; obviously, a triangle and not the kind sometimes played in the Lone Star state. More than sparks fly when Amanda and Marian both go after "A Man to Call My Own." - Gail Cooke
Rating: Summary: Too Repetitive: Thumbs down for this one. Review: The book is entertaining enough, but not very good. It is very repetitive, with the same things being stated over and over. It does not move fast, and is boring in places. Too much jumping to conclusions by the characters, even more than usual in a romance. This is just another cookie-cutter book. Nothing special. Sorry Johanna.
Rating: Summary: Still disappointed with Lindsey's new fare... Review: The heroine is dense to a fault, refusing to tell the truth for far too long with no reasonable explanation given by the author. The "mystery" is weak and fairly unneccessary. There's even a train robbery thrown in so the heroine can be needlessly abducted. However, the characters are well-drawn and this is something for which I used to hold Lindsey in high regard. The plot is interesting and par for the course for her. I do hope Lindsey eventually gets back the fire and sparkle that characterized her earlier works. Though this novel is not as bad as the last few she's released, it's really not that good either. I recommend sticking with her earlier works for wonderful westerns that you can't put down - Savage Thunder, A Heart So Wild and Angel come to mind right away.

Rating: Summary: A western tale worthy of reading Review: The story begins rather slowly in narrative explaining the relationships with the sisters. More narrative with explaining the aunt and then Chad. The story really picks up a third of the way through as the travails and love between Marian and Chad pick up. On the whole it is a wonderful Johanna Lindsey spun tale. It is certainly much better than her last book "The Pursuit." I find this book has much more narrative and more telling the story than Johanna's usual tales of living the story with the characters. Perhaps it is a new approach to her writing. The plot okay and so were the characters until you really met the twins, Chad, and Spence. Although the book lacked for Johanna's normal wit and humor I have to admit I enjoyed it. I did not care for the ending at all, but you will have to read it and make your own judgements.
Rating: Summary: Good, but could have been better! Review: The storyline is great and had so much potential; however, the characters and story are disjointed and undeveloped. Sadly, it only rates a three.
