Rating: Summary: A really nice, engaging Tale Review: I had taken a hiatus from reading any of J.L. books for some time now, although I would still collect them (because I collect her works) I rarely ever actually READ them anymore.I was so pleased to read this one and loved the story of the 2 twins it was comical at moments, sensual confrontations between Chad and Marian, a loving relationship between Chad and his father, and the Aunt who has spirit and a chance at finding love in her latter years. I don't know why Amazon.com doesn't give you a real good description of the plot but I will try. The Story is about 2 twins both gorgeous. One of the twins (Mandy) is spoiled and down-right Awful the other (Marian)is not she hides her beauty so that the other twin doesn't get jealous. You see Mandy has a history of sabotaging Marian's love interest, then she follows it up with crapping on the fellow in the end and leaving them. So Marian puts on this disguise to hide her beauty so that no one will be interested in her, and no one will get their feelings hurt. At the beggining of the story you find out that the girls father has died and they have to go and live with their Aunt, who they have not seen since being toddlers, out in Texas. Chad is the son of the Rancher who owns a HUGE spread near the Aunts but he is working over at her Ranch to help her out (anymore information on that part and I would be telling to much of the story) needless to say Marian is attracted to Chad and he to her, although how they get to this part is through misconceptions and spontaneous actions :) There were parts that I chuckled and it kept me engaged, which when it comes to the Romance novels these days, is all that I ask. In fact it kind of reminded me of a old Jude Deveraux style or even Julie Garwood. I didn't give it 5 stars because of the ending it wasn't plausible for me, it didn't quite add up. Respectfully Reviewed
Rating: Summary: DEFINITELY WORTH READING Review: I HAVE ALL OF JOHANNA LINDSEYS BOOKS -- AND I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THIS IS ONE OF HER BETTER ONES -- AT LEAST WITH THIS ONE YOU JUST CAN PREDICT THE ENDING(WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MARIAN ENDING UP WITH CHAD...) DEFINITELY WORTH READING
Rating: Summary: Where is the Johannah Lindsey magic????!!!! Review: I have been fan of Johannah Lindsey for over 18 years. She is one of my 5 top favorite authors. Johannah Lindsey has a flare of leading the reader from every day reality into her unique world of fantasy that makes you wish you never had to leave. But, this was one fantasy I would and left behind, without looking back. "A Man To Call My Own" is one of the most disorganized stories I have ever read. The story starts out with twin sisters, Amanda and Marian. Marian is the good twin and Amanda is the bad twin. Their father dies and they have to move to Texas to live with their father's sister "Red". Marian hides behind ugly glasses to be different from her sister so as not to attract attention her self from the opposite sex. Amanda is selfish and mean. Chad is sent to pick up the twins and bring them to their aunt. He is attracted to Amanda, but she ignores him and complains through out the whole trip. Meanwhile, ugly shy Marian is attracted to Chad. He gets them home and changes his mind about his attraction to Amanda and without the reader knowing why makes love to Marian. During the whole story Amanda is a real #$5$%$%^ and at the end of the story her character changes. (...)
Rating: Summary: Confused Review: I just don't believe it's a Lindsey! Not this or anything put out in her name since the last Malory book. (late 90's 2000?)They haven't even come close to the real JL. Is she still out there? Maybe writing under a different name? Help!! Where do you go from here? sigh.
Rating: Summary: It was worth the wait! Review: I just got done reading this book and this was really worth waiting for. Johanna Lindsey is an incredible author and I just wish there were more authors like her. I bought this book the day it came out after work and would have finished it alot sooner if I didn't have so much work to do. Even though the plot is kind of typical, it still was pretty romantic. Like alway, Johanna rocks!
Rating: Summary: Good Story Review: I love Lindsey's books! This story was very entertaining and as always I couldn't put it down. I lover her characters and the sense of humor. It may not been her best work but I would still give it a thumbs up! Can't wait for the next book to come out!
Rating: Summary: Don't Waste Your Time and Money! Review: I never thought I would ever give a Johanna Lindsey book so low a rating; however, this book is garbage. How many times do we have to read about a good twin and a bad twin? This book is full of flat, undeveloped characters, and the most predictable storylines. Quite honestly, I haven't liked much of Johanna Lindsey's books since the 90's. I can't help but think that she needs to focus on the quality of her writing rather than the quantity. Her latest books appear to be rushed out in a manufactured style of writing.
Rating: Summary: A stinker Review: I read about 230 pages of the book (in one sitting) and couldn't finish. Took it back to the library. This book was a rush job and I can't believe Johanna Lindsey, of all people, put her name on this!
Don't worry we still love you Johanna! Crank out some more Malory books and I'll be happy as a pig in slop :)
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I should have waited to get it at the used book store. I was so hoping it would be like her earlier books, I was SO tired of the continueing slow sagas of the Mallory's etc. It was ok, if you are of the old genre, everybody loves a Lindsey then read it. But will it be up to the high standards she began writing with. No. But it is worth it to read one time. This one I'll keep only because I have it in hardcover and I have all of her books. Will I read it again? Doubtful..
Rating: Summary: It was a good book Review: I understand where the repetition comes in but besides that I thought it was a really good book. Actually I took it out of a library and lost it and I was so disappointed because I didnt think I would ever find it again (ok a bit of exaggeration but...) and there it was sitting at another library and I was so excited to read it. I didnt find it disappointing in the least. Also you can say "I could care less" because it's like saying that the topic is so dumb that you could find it in your heart to care less which is insulting. See it all makes sense...anyway good book read it
