Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: So good.... Review: This was my first time reading Meggin Cabot and after finishing this book, I am definitly looking forward to reading more by her. I bought this book after finishing and enjoying The Nanny Diaries, and I have to say that The Boy Next Door was definitly no disappointment. I would recommend this book to anyone. The only down side is, you won't be able to put it down!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Written entirely by email!!! Review: Meggin Cabot shows her creativity when she writes this novel using only emails between characters. It's hilarious and extremely tounge-in-cheek at times. I enjoyed this style of writing and I'll certainly be checking out this author's other works!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Cute.... Review: but predicitable. I really don't write reviews for books that I don't enjoy, so I did enjoy this book. I just didn't love it. It's a great, easy read with likeable, funny characters and lots of humor. The format is in email style which is a nice change of pace. Get this book if you are looking for a funny, light beach read. If you are looking for literary genious.. well, look somewhere else. But hey, what's wrong with having some fun once in awhile?
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Highly Recommended! Review: "The Boy Next Door" is very cleverly done. With the right amount of silliness to keep it light and the interesting format kept me going (and chuckling). Despite the description provided at Amazon.com, the book is better than it sounds. I came online after reading the book wondering what others said about it, and for the most part it sounds like the majority of readers agree. Won't provide a break-down of the plot but something worth mentioning is that I enjoyed the multiple story lines! Maybe because this IS what my inbox (anyone's inbox) really looks like, (friend with boyfriend trouble, friend with imaginary weight issues, one or two from irate manager)... Tired of linear plotlines with no depth, I appreciated the author's effort in weaving secondary characters' story lines; so much so that it's as much a book about multiple protagonists rather than just "Mel" and "Max/John." I highly recommend this charming book! At times it'll feel like you're reading a slice of your own daily inbox content but for the most part, you'll either be smiling or chuckling along (while nodding in agreement with the pithy comments from the characters).
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: FAB!!! Review: One of the best books that I have ever read! It was a comdey/romance/mystery all in one! I loved every part of the fabulously written works by Meggin Cabot!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I couldn't put this down!!! Review: This is a really great modern book that I just couldn't put down. Some people's reviews said that there were too many story lines going on but I thought that was what made this book so great. I was laughing out loud at times- it's so funny! If you like eavesdropping on other people's conversations/letters, this book is for you!!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great fluffy read from a great author! Review: Mel Fuller is a gossip columnist for the secondary newspaper in New York City, the New York Journal. She wants to move on to hard news, but is having a hard time convincing her boss that she should be allowed to do this. She has just broken up with her boyfriend, star reporter Aaron Spender, because she found out that he cheated on her with another reporter while they were on location in Kabul. She also has a propensity for being late for work and the novel begins with her latest tardy. It turns out that she is late for work because her neighbor has been assaulted in her apartment and Mel, being a sweet "girl next door" type from the Midwest, feels it is her obligation to look out for her neighbor as well as her neighbor's pets. Eventually, she tracks down her neighbor's only living relative, one Max Friedlander, famous fashion photographer and he assures her that he will be there as soon as possible to take over the pets' care. What follows is hilarious and romantic - definitely a different sort of romance. What a preciously cute novel! Written entirely in e-mail format, this romance come mystery was a great read. Though it falls more into the classification of "beach book" rather than "great literature", there is no reason that it can't be read and enjoyed! Due to the e-mail format of the book, there are several first-person narrators. It is neat to get a feel for what is happening from several individual perspectives. Instead of reading what is going on "as it happens", the reader hears about things before and after they happen. Though the book could have benefited from a bit more proof-reading, the mistakes aren't enough to take away from the readers' enjoyment. Mel's refreshingly non-whiny personality is a stark contrast to some of the usual heroines of chick-lit. Way to go Meggin - you have written a real winner here!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: don't waste your money Review: I will admit that the major reason that I bought this book (FULL PRICE, MIND YOU) was because Kelly Rippa's picture was on the front..so, I am thinking that this must be good. The whole email concept was unique and I thought it would be interesting. ***WRONG*** I know that this was suppossed to be a "fun" book, but I found it very difficult to connect to any of the characters. There were about 10 different plots going on at one time. You could be reading a current email between two people and then on the next page is an email answer from 10 pages ago...I found it very hard to follow and just plain boring.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Uproarious humour in frothy romance Review: Outrageously entertaining with wits and office politics, Meggin Cabot who is better known as Patricia Cabot to romance fanatics, fashions her debut contemporary romance The Boy Next Door in an e-mail template-style that is refreshingly inventive. Cabot's central protagonist New York Journal gossip columnist Melissa Fuller is burdened with the task of taking care her neighbour's dog and diabetic cats when she is mysteriously attacked and rendered unconscious. She contacts Mrs. Friedlanders's nephew model photographer Max in the midst of a vacation with his hot date - never expecting the irresponsible Max will renege on a favor from high-school friend John Trent. John is to deceive Mel into believing he is Max while he is happy gallivanting. The plan is foiled when love enters the equation when John, actually a crime reporter with rival publisher Chronicle and low-key wealthy millionaire is enchanted by the simple Mel without the fuss. Even her friend Nadine believes that there is more to meet the eye in this perfect Adonis. When the deception is revealed, will Mel forgive John and solve the mystery behind Mrs. Friedlanders's attack? Meggin Cabot distinctly emerges as the freshest voice of romance with this frothy romance where the communication by e-mails gradually provides an intriguing glimpse to the hearts and thoughts of the ensemble of goofy, tender characters such as Mel's best friend Nadine and the glam-queen Dolly as they play cupid to the clueless couple. It is utterly hilarious and the pace gains its momentum through the dramatic courtship, gossips, advice dished out by Mel's parents, John's sister-in-law's interference and of course - complaints to Mel's tardiness. This comic riot is such a blast!
